Alyss and Daxter were both surprised by the impromptu visit to the forest. Daxter went and retrieved two baskets for them while Alyss neatly folded their aprons so they wouldn't get dirty outside. When Daxter returned to the table he said, "I was thinking we could look for blackberries, raspberries and blueberries."

"That's a great idea! I know what raspberry and blackberry bushes look like since I had some near my house growing up. Although, I'm not sure about the blueberries," Alyss replied taking one of the baskets from her friend.

The pair moved to join the group by the door before they headed out. "Hmm... maybe it would just be best to get raspberries and blackberries then. I'm not quite sure what a safe blueberry bush looks like and wouldn't want to confuse them with elderberries."

I pick up my basket and trail behind everyone till they get to the forest. Upon arrival I immediately saw so many different delicious fruits. There were wild plums, raspberries, blueberries, crabapples, and even gooseberries! With so many different fruits I just had to pick some of each.
Many others don't realize that gooseberries are edible and make a very good jam. Wild plums are rare due to their short season, but there's an abundance of them here and most of them are perfect! Wild plums are just delicious by themselves mainly due to the different texture from their cultured counterparts. Who knew that they could grow in such cold environments?
Crabapples make such good tarts and can be used as a pectin substitute if processed correctly. Then there's the popular berries such as blueberries and raspberries. They can be made into so many different things that it's hard to decide what to use them for. They could be used for many different pastries, syrups, sauces, jams, and even for refreshing drinks!
I should go back and grab enough for everyone to try and I'd like to hear their ideas for what they'll use them for!

Chalk bounced in excitement as today’s plans were announced. They were going on a field trip today! She could hardly sit still while Juniper finished her explanation.

“—make sure they’re not dangerous!” Juniper warned. Was she looking at Chalk when she said that? Or was it one of the others who also made some...interesting choices in ingredients yesterday? It was probably that one Goobie who tried to bake a knife. Yeah.

Once the group was unleashed into the nearest patch of wilderness, Chalk got to work on her search. She knew exactly what she wanted, it was just a matter of obtaining it that was the challenge, especially in this weather.

High and low she looked, scaling trees for a better vantage point and crouching down to better observe her terrain. She breezed past those beautiful edible flowers and those delicious looking berries. Hah, she didn’t need those. This was a specialty ingredient that she had in mind, and she knew exactly how to use it.

As the day was drawing to a close, Juniper began counting heads before the group turned back to the bakery.

Everyone seemed to be here with their chosen ingredients, except…

“Oh dear...We’re missing one. Has anyone seen Chalk?”

Just then, a loud creature erupted from the line of the forest her paws stained and cupped around...something.

“I’VE GOT IT!” she bellowed. Chalk pranced up to the group, pushing her paws towards Juniper so she could see what ‘it’ was.

“Chalk...is this mud?”

“Yes! Perfect for a mud pie, wouldn’t you say? Or if we add a few extra ingredients, we can make a ‘magic potion’” Chalk quirked her eyebrow in confidence.

Juniper stared into the middle distance.

You’re the first one there and talk with Juniper for a minute, it seems like one of the ovens is a bit wonky. Oh well, we won’t need to remember that! Everyone starts to huddle together to hear what Juniper has to say. “Welcome back! I hope you all are doing well and haven’t been staying up too late with all of the stargazing! Anyways lets get baking! We can frost some brownies or whatever else you’d like!”

Everyone starts getting ingredients and equipment out and starts to mix. Eventually 20 minutes goes by and you hear a CLANG! You pay no attention to it, however, you start to smell smoke. Oh no! Juniper starts ushering everyone out while she deals with this!

“Stay calm everyone! Let’s handle this calmly.” Everyone looks nervous, especially one particular goobie! You wonder what happened..

Prompt answer; It was the smell that reached Jax first, as she twitched it and let out a rather large sneeze. "Surely it cannot be..." She found herself jogging over towards the kitchen to see what had happened, but being gently ushered out. "Do you need help? Are you okay?" She asks. "I swear I followed the instructions! Did I set the temperature too high? Oh confession time I have neeeever baked before!" Jax found herself grimacing as she spoke the words out loud. "But I am trying to learn and if it was me that burned the kitchen down I am so so sorry! Please forgive meeeee!"

Chalk doesn’t know why the bakery is on fire. What had happened?! As Juniper ushered her and her companions out, Chalk dolefully looked back at the mud brownies that she was forced to surrender to the flames. It was such high quality mud too…

But losing her beloved mud wasn’t the only thing that unnerved her about this situation. She noticed it just after the clanging noise; It was Juniper.

She was just so cheerful about the whole situation. Her bakery, filled with highly explosive flour she might add, was on fire, and yet she seemed just as happy as she had been earlier this morning, when they were...discussing the...oven….

Dear Gob.

Why is she still smiling like that?
All of the antics the group got into hasn’t caused her to snap, right?
Was she the one who tampered with the ovens?
Was this premeditated?

No.

Nope nope nope. No, it can’t be. Chalk shook her head. Juniper was a lovely presence! She was so calm and kind and she would never explode an oven on purpose...right? And look! One of the other volunteers seemed ready to take the blame. It was probably just a simple mishap on their part!

Yeah!

Chalk was definitely getting paranoid over this because of the shock. Juniper was just trying to make sure that no one panicked, because she’s so kind. Definitely.

She eyed the back of Juniper’s head suspiciously.

But maybe she should keep an eye on her. Just to be safe.
