"Wh - what do you mean you don't put seaweed on your Goomas Tree? ...not even shiny rocks? Or sea glass?" Wrasse looked over at Zagte, perplexed that even a tradition such as this differed between land- and sea-dwelling goobies. He then turned to his box of seaweed and shiny rocks, seeming somewhat despondent. However, he perked up quickly soon thereafter when he realised that the seaweed could be repurposed as a tasty snack now that it wouldn't go on the tree, and began to eat it happily.

"Of course not." Zagte let out a sigh, still in disbelief that after all this time, the tree still hadn't been decorated. "The seaweed would stink by the time you finish decorating, and there are much better things to put on a Goomas Tree than shiny rocks. Here, take a look." Zagte's box was filled with strings of lights and ornaments, the likes of which Wrasse had never seen before. He approached, pawing at them with curiosity. Some of the ornaments were intricate, while others were simple, but every one of them sparkled and glittered. Was this the spirit of Goomas, he wondered?

"Hey, these kind of look like my shiny rocks!" Seaweed falling out of his mouth, Wrasse pulled out a baby-blue ornament, holding it between webbed paws, admiring how smooth and shiny it was. "Do you think... maybe we can put my rocks on the tree beside the ornaments?"

Zagte mulled over this question, golden-black eyes studying the box of foreign items that Wrasse had brought with him. He knew that Wrasse had come from the ocean, and that things like lights and ornaments wouldn't work underwater the same way that they did on land. "While they wouldn't normally go on a tree... my ornaments have a lot of sentimental value to them, but I guess yours do, too, since you brought them all the way from your home."

"Uh-huh! This one, I found while I was looking for pearls. And this one, it was outside of my cave one morning when I woke up! And this one..." Wrasse went on and on, explaining the history of each and every ornament, his eyes sparkling with delight. He had never gotten a chance to share any of this with anyone, and was overjoyed to finally get to talk about each one. To this end, gaining a little bit of understanding of the value of those ornamental rocks, Zagte was able to drop his hardened exterior, seeing nothing more than an excitable goobie eager to experience his first Goomas on land. "...and even the Goomas Trees are different! These ones are so fluffy and green. We would find the prettiest coral branch, and decorate that instead."

"With all those descriptions, it makes me wish I was there to see the tree for myself." Zagte let out a rare huff of amused laughter, Wrasse's excitability contagious. "Here, I'll help you decorate the tree," Zagte offered, his voice softer now. Together, they worked to decorate the tree, adorning it head to toe in lights, ornaments, rocks, and sea glass, to make one of the most unique Goomas trees anyone had ever seen.

An old VHS tape labeled "First Choir Concert'' is put into the VHS player. You can hear a Vrrring sound and a click as the tape is now ready to be played. The play button is clicked and a brief sound of static is heard before you can hear and see someone instruct a bunch of young goobies into their spots. The chattering stops and the room hushes to hear.

"Hello everybody, I am the choir teacher and for the first song that'll be sung is the Goomas Carol Oh Goomas Tree," states the choir teacher. She turns around, the piano starts playing, and she conducts the choir.

The camera zooms onto a small yellow goobie with pinkish purple stripes singing proudly the song.

"Oh goomas tree, oh goomas tree, please won't you bring around my family.

I know tonight, I know tonight, that the sky will be shining.

And all the little ones will be having joyous fun.

So don't worry and just come along.

Oh goomas tree, oh goomas tree, please bring around the joyous energy.

For the night has come, the night has come, and now it's simply freezing.

So we light the hearth and celebrate the earth.

And tell the stories that we've learned since our birth."

The song ends and cheering is heard. On the other side of the camera you can hear a name cheered.

"Good Job Lemon!," Shouts the unknown voice and you can see the small yellow goobie with pinkish purple stripes look into the camera and smile.

The duo had no tree, but they did have a ceiling and some old fairylights Crimson had found years ago during a rail line run for supplies. Navy had used some old flaky paint in red and blue and painted the plastic of each string the respective coloring while Crimson had watched.
That was years ago, the lights now string along the ceiling of the subway car decorated in the stuff the duo had found over time and hooked into an old electric line outside on the platform.

They know others above ground use trees but they think their lights work just as well and the friends that sometimes vist the duo always love seeing the strings of lights weaving across the car. Navy often paints other ones Crimson drags home and strings them along the other cars, different colors of course one car is covered in orange and tangerine strips of lights and another weaved around in lilacs and purples.

Navy seems to like keeping those cars clean and ready, for what he doesn’t know but their little christmas stand in for a tree works for them, besides one year when Crimson dragged a whole branch down the platform and zip-tied it to an electric pole and almost started a fire but we don’t talk about that year.

Zenon always decorates her tree the same way. She uses rainbow lights, silver garland, and a yellow star for the top. The ornaments she uses come in many shapes and sizes. Zenon has collected ornaments for her entire life. She has many that are handmade gifts from friends. One of her favorites is a glass blown ball she made. Zenon was proud of the swirly design she was able to add to it and hangs it near the top of the tree every year. One of Zenon's favorite gifts every year is the ornament her best friend, Alyss, always gives to her. She has so many ornaments at this point you can barely see the green of the tree in some places.

tell your tale ! :: Lily was grinning as she carried a large box full of goomas decorations into the room. "Now we can decorate the tree!" she announced cheerfully as she carefully set the box down. Shell peered into the box curiously. It was filled to the brim with lights, ornaments, and other decorations. Many of them looked to be homemade. Shell looked back at Lily curiously.
"Did you make these?"
"Some of them, yeah!" Lily replied cheerfully. "Like this one, it was the first one I ever made!" Reaching into the box, Lily retrieved a small, painted ornament. It looked like she had painted a snow goobie in a field of snow on it.
"Wow! It's so cute!" Shell said. "What about that one?" They asked, pointing at another decoration. It was a sphere with an intricately detailed agel goobie painted on it.
"Oh, that is my most recent one! I made it last year!" Lily explained. "It took ages to make, but it was worth it!"
Shell smiled. "You're really good at making ornaments. Are you going to make one this year, too?"
Lily nodded. "I plan to! ...Hey, do you want to make one with me?"
Shell hesitated for a moment. "Well... I've never made anything like this before..."
Lily smiled reassuringly. "That is fine, we can make something small if you would feel more comfortable that way!"
"But, well... I'm not as skilled at art as you are..." Shell added nervously.
"First of all, your art is great! Do not sell yourself short, Shell. Secondly, when it comes to making goomas ornaments, I think it is more about the memories you make than how the finished result looks, anyway." Lily said.
"Hmm... Alright." Shell agreed.
Lily smiled and rushed off, returning with some art supplies a few minutes later. "Okay, what kind of ornament would you like to make?"
Shell thought for a bit. "How about... Maybe a snowball? If that's possible?"
"Sure! We could make a paper mache snowball! That sounds like it would look really cool! Great idea!"
Shell beamed. "Thank you."
And so the two got to work, and soon they had put together a little paper mache snowball!
"Alright, how about we put the other decorations on the tree while we wait for it to dry?" Lily suggested after it was all finished and painted to look just like a snowball.
"Okay," Shell agreed, following Lily back over to the tree and helping her start wrapping some lights around it. About half an hour later, the two had finished putting all the other decorations on the tree.
"I think it should be ready now," Lily said happily, walking back over to the snowball ornament to check. "Yeah, it is. Would you like to put it on the tree?"
"Sure," Shell replied with a smile, carefully picking the ornament up and carrying it over to the tree. After a few moments of searching for the perfect spot to put it, they finally decided on a sturdy looking branch and carefully put it in place. "How's this?"
"Perfect!" Lily said, smiling.
"That was a lot of fun," Shell commented, staring at the tree. They thought it looked perfect, too.
