- Naomi was curled into herself, her nose buried in her tail to preserve as much of her body heat as possible. Even though it was much warmer in the mother's den than outside, she held onto a habit formed from her time alone. She made little noise while sleeping. The only sound heard from her were soft breaths. If one were to gaze her way they'd assume she was having a peaceful sleep. But ever since she experienced the horrific separation from her previous pack her dreams were nothing but nightmares. It was guilt that consumed her.
She was horrified by the fact she let herself grow close to a human child. Then Naomi reminded herself that it was her grief that drove her to it. The female felt so lost and hopeless when her pups were born lifeless. She felt responsible for their deaths, even though it was out of her power. The emptiness she had been feeling for so long was filled by the human child. But it couldn't last. The motherly friendship she had with her shouldn't have happened. Not even because she was overcome by grief and emptiness. Her punishment for her actions was the outcome of her pack. They're dead because of her friendship with a human child.
The she-wolf opened her amber eyes slowly, blinking the blurriness of sleep away. She stared at nothing in particular for a moment. Her heartbeat was quicker, a nervous feeling coursed through her. Her thoughts were on the nightmare she just had. Bodies of her previous pack mates mixed with the current. Naomi was worried the same fate would happen to the current pack. What if those humans tracked her all the way here? No. They couldn't. They wouldn't. She was far away from her previous home. They wouldn't make their way here. And just for one wolf? Seemed more and more unlikely to her as she woke and calmed herself. 'I am safe.' She repeated in her thoughts. After a moment she did her best to unruffle her thoughts. She wouldn't let herself focus on the past. She would grow from her mistakes and ensure her pups knew the dangers of humanity. And Naomi would never trust another human. Child or not. They brought nothing but death and destruction into her life and she doesn't want it repeated with any pack.
Naomi was pulled from her thoughts at the sound of another wolf brushing against the brambles outside. She slowly unraveled herself and stretched. First her front legs, next her back legs. At the end of her stretch her tail flicked to the left and then she shook away any dirt that collected onto her creamy pelt. Her stomach growled at the faint smell of food and she subconsciously licked her lips. 'I should eat soon. The pups need as much nutrition as possible.' Naomi thought. Her gaze flicked over to a figure that trotted outside. Hemlock. The female was farther along in her gestation than she was. Her belly was twice the size of Naomi's. Naomi hardly looked pregnant, given her large, athletic build and full fur, but there was a slight pudginess of her stomach that gave it away.
The she-wolf yawned, and her gaze landed on the other pregnant wolf that followed. Firelight. She waited a moment, unsure to follow but ultimately hunger led her to follow the pair. Naomi stood away from the two to give them their own space. Her gaze set on the young male. She looked at the carcasses he had. A rabbit and two small birds. Not as filling as a deer, but better than nothing. "Can I have one?" She inquired softly to Aztec, referring to the birds. She wouldn't dare ask for the rabbit or more than one bird.
