there's been a little myth going around about a goo named krampus... it doesn't seem too friendly, and you never
know when he might show up unprovoked in one of your stories. all i'm saying is proceed cautiously...

tell your tale ! ::As the days grow colder, the birds nestle into each other and the mice huddle together. The glistening white flakes rain down from the sky gently, soaking the pathways as they melt... until they form up.
The snow begins to build into mountains. The air is quiet and chilled, the perfect hot chocolate weather.
Huddle up by the fire, little goobies. It will only get colder this month. Wrap up in a blanket and snuggle close, watch movies until you doze off. The first of winter's snow has fallen, and it is far from the last snow that we will be seeing.

"quiet down everybody . . . ! alright, go on dear! tell us your tale!"goobie(s) participating :: Duarte , Silver, and Caedmon
type of tale :: writing - at least 500 words
tell your tale ! ::
"Aye, it was a long time ago, back when me crew was still alive n' kicking... Caedmon had always lived in a more southern area, never got a real winter down there, so he hadn't known what snow was- well, until one night while we were sailin' off durin' the winter months. "
Caedmon had woken up to the soft sounds of paws on the deck above, along with a distinct cracking sound that he hadn't heard before. He grumbled slightly, getting up from his hammock and finding his way up to the front of the ship. It was cold as sin outside and the sky was still pitch black, but he was able to find two familiar figures looking out on the ocean, partially because one of them was holding a lit lantern and seemed anxious about the prospect of it blowing out, if his body language was any indication. Silver and Duarte were both warmly dressed, making Caedmon wonder where on the boat they even kept such large coats, but that wasn't the point of the other's visit.
"You're both out in the dead of night. Is there any explanation for that or have you both just found another way to ruin my sleep?" Caedmon asked, causing both of the other diabs to laugh lightly at him. "Aw, Caed don't be such a spoil sport, we just came out here to see the snow!" There was a Pause after Duarte spoke, before Caedmon could get out something to explain his confusion. "The...Snow? What is this...snow?" Both of the goobies seemed a bit shocked. "You... don't know what snow is?" Silver asked, watching as Caedmon shook his head. Almost immediately after that, he was dragged up to the front of the ship, bundled up in some sort of warm blanket, and sat at the edge of the boat.
Caedmon looked down at first, seeing that the ship was breaking apart what looked to be small panes of ice. Was it really that cold up here? As he looked however, he noticed small white spots floating into his vision, causing him to look up and see...oh wow, there was a lot of them weren't they? Caedmon was stunned, silent and staring for a moment, even as he heard the other two talking behind him. "Oh, it's really comin' down now, ain't it?" Duarte sighed. "Sure seems like it, do you think that we'll need to get the shovel out for the ship?" Silver replied. "Oh nah, just make sure none of it gets below deck, it sittin' down there sounds annoyin' to deal with."
The other goobie wasn't exactly paying attention, staring at the sky and letting the small cold snowflakes fall on his face. Snow, huh. It was a strange new thing to witness, but in the cold of the night, bundled up and next to the small fire of the lantern next to him, not to mention with the company of his friends, he would definitely classify it under a good experience. And... he could worry about the snow starting to pile up on the ship later.

"It was incredible Kari! You wouldn't ever believe it, I mean it. Snow is so fluffy and soft, but Harley tells me it can get wet and sloshy too. What they call snowflakes fall from the sky and coat everything in site. When we woke up in the morning I thought we had teleported! Everything was covered oh Kari it was just the coolest experience!" "quiet down everybody . . . ! alright, go on dear! tell us your tale!" goobie(s) participating :: Rudolph type of tale :: At least 250 words
tell your tale ! :: Rudolph looked at the small group of goos, smiling brightly. Tonight was the night, after all, he was going to help them find themselves! Their very first goomas, and he would ensure that it was the most special goomas of all! "Now then little ones, get comfortable on the sleigh as I tell you a secret! A special story only those of us from Pole know!" Rudolph winked, as he gathered a blanket around the good, and helped fasten them in a bit tighter.
"You see, the land of Pole is a special place of magic and well, holidays. It is a place where the beliefs of goobies condense and become real, manifesting by belief alone! As such? Well, the very first snow of the holidays is considered to be very special! You see, the part of Pole I am in is reserved for Goomas, and most of the time it is quite chilly anyways! It starts out magical! But people believe in miracles in the snow. And as the very first snow makes its way to us, Pole takes on an extra level of special. The snowmen awaken from their summer slumber, and start to dance and sing. Some even make the trip down south to enchant goomas for other places! Snowflakes start to light up in various colors, music fills the air! And well..." He grins.
"My nose here starts to glow brighter than ever! Someone has to light the way after all! And this year I want to make sure you all get to see the magic firsthand! So! Up and away, get ready because we are about to take off!"

"Let your spark light your world!"

"quiet down everybody . . . ! alright, go on dear! tell us your tale!"goobie(s) participating :: Wrassetype of tale :: writing; 1139 words
tell your tale ! ::It was rare that mergoos ever got the chance to see the surface, or explore what it was like beyond the abyssal depths of their watery home. But Wrasse knew that he wanted more than to just let the world above pass him idly by; there was so much that he hadn't seen, so much that he had yet to experience. After spending much of his life in the frigid waters of the deep, Wrasse decided that it was time to start a new chapter in his life, leaving behind everything he had known in order to pursue new adventures. With a farewell to his friends and family, he began to make the long ascent. Several goobies who had recognised his flashy rainbow coat stopped him along the way to ask him where he was going. His answer was simple and soft-spoken, as it always was; "I'm going to the surface."
"But why would you go? Isn't it safer down here?" they asked him, their voices full of worry.
This journey was seen as a pilgrimage of sorts, but was by no means necessary within the mergoos. Those that had left often never returned, but this was usually simply because of their enjoyment of the world beyond rather than being claimed by danger. Even still, there were always rumours of potential dangers, and several goobies tried to talk him out of it. He took the time to speak to each one calmly and succinctly, explaining how he had seen everything there is to see at the bottom of the ocean, and that whatever awaited him on the surface would be new and exciting.
Wrasse swam ever-upwards, certain only that he was going up due to the fish that swam all around him. Even here, closer to the surface, where the light began to shine through, Wrasse felt like he was in a new world completely. Fish and corals that he had never before set his eyes on sparkled before his eyes, and he was absolutely entranced. Still, despite everything around him, he still hadn't achieved his goal, and continued his ascent. It took a while for Wrasse's body to adjust to the warmer temperatures of the water around him, squinting and straining to see as blinding light he had never before experienced only became stronger and stronger. These had been the dangers that had been told to him by those who were concerned about his safety, and while he had been expecting them, they were still nearly overpowering. Determined to show his resolve, Wrasse continued to paddle his paws, his tail swishing behind him, blindly continuing upwards with his eyes now squeezed completely shut.
When he first broke the surface, Wrasse didn't even realise it until he could hear the splashing of the water around him. Using his lungs rather than his gills, Wrasse took his very first breaths of air, reveling in how it tasted on his tongue. But something wasn't right; though his eyes remained closed, he could feel how tumultuous the waves were around him. Even so far out from shore, the wind picked up to such a degree that the water around him was choppy, soon beginning to thrash him around this way and that. Wrasse struggled to stay afloat, his paws paddling as quickly as they would let him. But he was exhausted from his trip, not having the chance to rest, and was no match for the relentless fury of the ocean. A particularly stroke wave collided directly with Wrasse's head, and in an instant, he was out cold.
When he awoke, the first thing that Wrasse was conscious of was how his paws didn't move at all. Despite the sounds of waves around him, and despite how he imagined the flow of the water to move from side to side, he stayed firmly planted where he was. That could only mean one thing; that he had made it onto dry land at last. Coughing up water, he stood up shakily, his eyes squinting open to look at the blindingly-white sand. Slowly but surely, his eyes began to get used to this new brightness, and he began to walk on shaky paws through the sand. A cold wind blew through his fur, but instead of making him miserable it only reminded him of home. He continued to walk past the ocean-tossed stones and tall grass that swayed in the wind, noting that it was becoming easier to see not only because of him spending more time out in the daylight, but also because dark grey clouds had begun to obscure the sun overhead.
Curious as to this change in weather, Wrasse only gave it a passing thought before he continued on his way, walking aimlessly with no goal in mind. Maybe he would find the other mergoos that had left their home, or maybe he would find other land-dwelling goobies who had never spent a day in the ocean in their lives. These thoughts excited him and spurred him on, giving him energy in every step. Wrasse was so lost in his thoughts that he didn't notice that the sky had begun to produce something knew that he had never seen before; while he had heard of rain, the water that fell from the clouds, he had never heard of anything like this before; a small white speck landed on the tip of his nose, then another, and another. He looked around to see countless of these white specks, falling all around him. He could only watch, stupefied, as they began to form little piles of white, vanishing at first, before quickly accumulating on the ground. He tentatively pressed a paw into the cold substance, leaving behind a distinct pawprint that was quickly covered with more of this frozen water.
What exactly was it that he had stumbled upon? Was this a rare occurrence? Wrasse had absolutely no idea, but he was enjoying every moment of it. As the white piles became thicker on the ground, Wrasse began to jump around in them, taking comfort in the freezing cold. He didn't care if there were others around to see him acting like a fool; in fact, if he had seen anyone, he would have simply asked them to join him. Though usually quiet and reserved, Wrasse found himself laughing from the joy that overflowed from within him; this was one of many experiences that he never would have been able to have underwater, and it was one of the first experiences on land that he had ever had. Wrasse had found exactly what he had been searching for, and knew that the future only had so much more in store for him. Unbeknownst to Wrasse, this was his first snow, and a moment that he would cherish for the rest of his life.
