his smile was strained as he dipped his head, reciting a phrase he'd used countless times. "my sincere apologies, my lady."

he averted his gaze, letting the swell of foreign music carry him to the dark recesses of heavy velvet curtains. upon marbled stone, silks and cloaks spun, whirling and twirling in twists of shimmers and sequins. it was dizzying. so… unlike home.

there was a certain structure to the madness, a pattern between all the twists and bends, the taps to the beat of the music. but-

"you're a real heartbreaker, cathan." the crackle of his comms surged to life, gently chiding. ah yes. his dear shield.

"is there a problem?" his gaze swept the floors, searching.

"actually, yes. you see the trail of heartbreak you leave in your wake?" ollie chuckled, voice interwoven with static. "i hear all about it from all sides. it's appalling, really. let down your guard, come dance with all of us for void's sake."

"i'd rather not." his voice was tight. perhaps tighter than he'd liked. "please, clean up after my apparent mess, then. distract all the guests-"

"you can't dance, can you?" ollie chuckled, the melody soft and gentle. amused. "i never thought… well, that does explain it."

cathan squeezed his eyes shut. "i'd rather you not announce that to the world."

his shield churred, tongue clicking. "cathan, dear cathan. you always assume the worse. i'd never embarass you behind your back… but i'd love to see you squirm behind closed doors when we do lessons."

"what?"

"call it an improptu deal! you'll learn from me and in-exchange i'll keep your secret."

hello hello! for all our community members who aren't on the discord, it’s the 13th, so we’re at the halfway mark for catvent! thank you for sticking around ━ we love seeing all of the creativity in everyone's lore + we’re also excited to reveal the rest of the prompts/prizes! <33

a few little updates:
✦ we’ve started including "short/medium/long" indicators next to prompts! you’re always welcome to write more (or less for longer prompts), but we thought it’d be helpful to include those (especially if you’re on a time crunch!). it'll also hopefully keep burnout on the low <3
✦ day 10 catvent results will be released soon (we’re aiming for this weekend ━ hopefully?)
✦ day 17 and day 20 will also be long(er) + judged prompts! (just a little head's up, in case you'd like to plan ahead/set some time aside for it!)
