Murderers in Riverclan V.3 [welcome back!]

Jadestar had not slept that night, instead keeping her eyes, or in the blind leaders case, ears open to see if her assailant would come back. She huffed in annoyance as she got out of her nest, saying to nobody in particular "They really went after the leader. Bold but stupid." Still. She couldnt deny that she likely wouldve been unable to survive the night if it went for her unseen saviour. She wished to thank them, but even if she had a feeling, she didnt know if it was truly them.
Leaving her den finally, she gave a sad glance at the empty camp. She skipped the formalities due to their small numbers, simply saying loud enough to be heard "There was another attack last night, however their target this time was me." Though she hated to admit her lack of sight caused a problem, she gritted her teeth and continued. "Unfortunately i did not see who it was, or who saved me, but thank you." She finished up her short announcement before standing at the camps entrance. She debated on whether or not to take a quick walk before the inevitable decision that would have to be made.

jadedstar sighed, shaking her head as she knew this had to be addressed now. she turned away from the camp's entrance and made her way to her rock, leaping up to address the clan. she knew two of them were already aware of the attack, so she felt as though she was really just addressing one cat. she paused for a moment, hoping someone would come forward. ottersnap stepped forward, finally breaking the tense silence. "jadedstar... it was me who protected you last night. unfortunately, though, i couldn't identify your attacker," he spoke with composure, side-eying blazingsun. "but my gut tells me it wasn't minnowshade. i know with my heart my daughter wouldn't do this." his voice signaled a hint of pleading, hoping he could convince his leader. jadedstar turned her head to her deputy, sighing with disappointment.

"no, ottersnap... while i believe you that you came to save me last night, i just... that would leave blazingsun," she said, shaking her head, "and that's just more wrong than minnowshade. something is telling me that it's her, it's always been her from the beginning." jadedstar turned her blind eyes to the general area of minnowshade and blazingsun. she couldn't pin them down from scent alone, but had a general idea of where they'd be. "minnowshade?"

minnowshade kept herself sat, tailed curled over her paws in neat composure. "i won't fight your claims, jadedstar. this has gone on long enough, and i don't think i'll succeed any further in my quest," she began, staring back at her leader. "if you remember why i attacked you last night, then you've got a general idea of why i've been doing what i've done. the whole lot of you are horrible codebreakers, and i had to deal with it myself. it started with those pesky apprentices- they stole and ate prey during the leaf-bare while the rest of us starved!"

jadedstar's jaw dropped in disbelief as minnowshade spoke. she was shocked that she admitted to it so easily, but was further taken aback by her reasons. her daughter was killed over something so relatively small; she knew that the leaf-bare was hard, but cats had to do what cats had to do. sunpaw was small and weak, jadedstar knew that if she ate prey before coming back to camp, it was because she had no other choice. pinning minnowshade's location down through audio and scent, jadedstar lunged forward and tumbled with the she-cat. it caught ottersnap and blazingsun off guard, but both knew their respective places by this point and knew better than to intervene. minnowshade has caused enough grief and damage that it was only appropriate for jadedstar to finally deal with it.

digging her claws into minnowshade's shoulders, jadedstar pinned her down and brought her face to hers. "you have destroyed my clan over the simplest of things. i don't know why you killed everyone else, nor do i care, but i do know it had to of been for the smallest of reasons. there's no way that many cats were breaking the code on such a drastic level that you took it as far as you did. you are power hungery and delusional. you never spoke your anger, you just took matters into your own paws, which is exactly what i'm going to do!" jadedstar yowled, raising her paw above minnowshade. minnowshade looked up, understanding her punishment. she knew that while she believed her mission to be noble, she understood the hypocrisy in her actions. her punishment was due.

jadedstar struck her paw down, raking it across minnowshade's throat. she felt minnowshade jerk beneath her and listened as she gurgled. ottersnap turned away, shocked to see his leader really carry out the action. blazingsun could only feel contempt now that he knew his sister was properly avenged. breathing heavily, jadedstar turned to go back to her den and re-evaluate what had really just happened. she stopped to speak over her shoulder, addressing ottersnap. "i have no interest in burying her. she is a traitor to not only riverclan but to starclan itself. but she is your daughter," she sighed, "so do what you must. just not on our territory."

ottersnap nodded as he curled up besides minnowshade. he pressed his face into her still-warm flank, mixed thoughts and emotions running through the tom's head. she killed her brother and cast away her mother, and destroyed so many other lives. he didn't understand where this came from, he thought he had raised a proper kit. he had always known minnowshade was a stickler for rules, but never did he see this coming from his daughter. anguish filled him as he realized he lost his whole family, just as everyone else. he remained there, silent for the rest of the day as he contemplated life and what to do next.

the following morning, he brought minnowshade out for burial, away from any of the clans' territories. he buried her in a marked grave, with intentions to return to this spot when he needed to think and meditate. he somberly returned to camp, unsure how riverclan could function with just three members. he and jadedstar spoke briefly, both deciding to embark the next day to find arcticwhisper, blizzardstrike, and mistbreeze in hopes they would return to riverclan. while minnowshade did not succeed in killing every member of riverclan, she still dramatically fast-forwarded its demise.

oh starclan! your results came down to the outcome of a flip of the coin. starclan was in your favor tonight. but even with the killer gone, do you think riverclan will really be able to survive?
