LEAFBARE || The days are cold. The nights are long. Snow falls periodically, coating the grass with a frosty sheen of ice. It is perhaps the hardest season, but many agree it to also be the most beautiful. Hungry predators prowl through the forests, greedy enough to attack fiercer opponents for the slightest chance at a measly scrap to eat. The levels of sickness rise to an almost unbearable point, and most agree on one thing. Life is hard.

STORY NOTES
─ After the disappearance of the ghosts, Tallthorn has been subdued and weary, but he brightens when news arrives that Dovechirp and Crowears have returned from Antonia's labor. In a back corner of the crowded nursery, Crowears introduces his family to his three children: Swiftkit, Buttercupkit, and Thornkit. Each one's name, Crowears tells them, is inspired by the cats he loves most.
─ Cricketpounce calls a clan meeting, finally ready to announce that his retirement and to name a replacement deputy. He then calls for Mintfur to come join him on the Tall Stones. Though there is some whispering and noises of surprise at first, SpruceClan is quick to welcome their new deputy. Darkstone cheers riotously for his dad.
─ Bright and early the following morning, Ivystar presents Applepaw, Lilypaw, and Sheeppaw with their warrior names. Lacekit, Tawnykit, and Deerkit are also promoted to apprentices. The remaining kittens are allowed out of the nursery and out to the Tall Stones to watch the ceremony; Goldenheart makes sure to keep their jealous grumblings to a minimum.
─ Stormchase and Darkstone both corner Betonypaw after she gets out of a training session. She rolls her eyes at them as they attempt to apologize for causing her accident, and instead demands they apologize to one another in order to earn her forgiveness. When they do so, Betonypaw smiles, and tells her old friends how much she'd missed them.
─ Duskcloud and Adderpool find themselves in the warrior's den, sweet-talked into covering Dawnfire's nest duty so that he could ask Greybriar on a date. The two healers chat as they work, joking around about the confession in progress, until Duskcloud remembers that her twin brother wants to have kits. Horrified, she turns to Adderpool and wails about how old they've all become!
─ Cinderstorm summons all of his courage after a pep talk from Bramblingpath and pulls Sunhollow aside after the day's hunt ends. He tells her how he feels, taking great pains to be respectful and lighthearted. Much to his surprise, she enthusiastically reciprocates. A little dumbstruck, Cinderstorm just smiles goofily at her as his new mate scurries off to combine their nests.
─ In the healer's den, Honeyfrost methodically tends to the gruesome injuries Wrenpelt sustained in the fox fight, worried that their lack of improvement may be due to an infection. Thistleflight grooms his fur to distract from the pain, quiet but stubborn in her resolve to be a better parent to her kits.

The Montagne
Nestled in Puy de Sancy, The Montagne is a group of stray/rogue cats ⎯ a clan dating back to over two hundred years ago, curated by their first ancestor, Severin. These cats, while looking friendly, are known to have ambitious mindsets and harsh tongues.Throughout the years they were forced to grow accustomed to the elevation and climate of Puy de Sancy ⎯ long coats for the winter, shorter for the summer, and toughened paw pads for the harsh terrain. They can be very territorial when it comes to their homeland: starting fights for simple reasons, constantly widening borders, and planning surprise attacks against other clans. Unlike their neighboring clans, however, The Montagne fails to believe in ancestorial spirits such as StarClan ⎯ instead choosing to put their beliefs into Serevin. They believe that he has the power to divide himself into various other deities, therefore being the soul spirit watching over their clan. Because of this, The Montagne have some troubles communicating through the Moonpool ⎯ but Serevin always pulls through, granting his former clan with whatever they wish.

snow lies in massive drifts over the territories. even the warmest areas feel the effects,
from frost killing vulnerable plants, to causing coughs to those who have experience too
much exposure. as prey and herbs have become scarce, there will also be fewer strangers
looking to explore the vast clan territories. queens may have a harder time kitting, so
medicine cats will need to be well-stocked and prepared for the following moons.

Copperbreeze was laying on a large branch, eyes fixated on the shiny yet dark night sky, unable to rest, when a soft murmur coming from the light guide caught the ears of the tortoiseshell
"The hell you're doing??"
Meteorfall suddenly turned their head to find their clanmate annoyingly staring at them, and looked around to check if the others were asleep "Oh- I didn't know you were awake" Meteorfall whispered, a little startled but keeping their composure "I was wishing for fortune and fertility to come and help us grow."
"Why though?" They inquired, now more curious than annoyed
"I'm not sure, whenever I do that the thing I requested happens. The day before you joined us I did something similar and had a dream where I met you."
Copperbreeze tilted their head "Why, though?? Do you think something or someone is bending the laws of the universe to help you or something?" They were frustrated, confused, unable to understand their guide's logic
Meteorfall calmly pondered on their clanmate's question "I'm not sure either - but does it even matter?" Copperbreeze's eyes widened "It's completely plausible for that to simply be my own mind creating its own mechanisms to keep me going, I suppose I've always been an imaginative feline. But I'm not one to question that, it's a bit pointless, don't you think?"
Copperbreeze opened their mouth, ready to further question the lynx point, but, thinking more about what they were told, they realized Meteorfall had a point: it'd be hard, maybe even impossible to find a concrete explanation for things like that. Copperbreeze appreciated their guide for those eccentricities, seemly confusing at first but understandable at a second glance "Well, okay then, goodnight Meteorfall"
