Additionally, I'm starting a personal donation project! I LOVE bats, and unfortunately bats tend to get a lot of hate. Bats are important pest control where I live and actually save farmers millions of dollars annually by preventing crop damages. In honor of bat appreciation month, when you send me proof of donation to any certified bat conservation, I will draw a flatcolor piece for you, fullbody or bust. It can be of anything you'd like, as long as it adheres to community guidelines here. No gore, no NSFW, and no hate speech. The most bats found in one place is in Bracken Cave, Texas, which houses around 15 MILLION Mexican Free-tailed Bats!

You can age a bony fish like you age a tree, using growth rings.

[This is done by looking at otoliths through a microscope].

otoliths are structures that help a fish hear and balance itself. Because we can't ask a fish how old they are, we use these to measure how old they are. In summer, fish grow fast and the rings are smaller. In winter, fish grow slowly and the rings are wider.

Depending on the fish, they may grow fast or slow. That also impacts how scientists count the rings and determine age.

Vampire bats are incredibly social and affectionate creatures. They love to groom and cuddle up with colony members, and when a colony member doesn't get enough to eat from a feeding, the others will regurgitate blood meals to help out!
