North chucked softly at the question. She was about to say ‘I’s my clan, I do what I want’, but it didn’t seem fitting for the persona she was playing. She thought about it for a moment. “As the lord, I choose my successor. One I find most fitting to take over and that’s someone I have trained since they were a kit.” She looks at Honey thoughtfully. “In a way it’s similar to the Royal Court. Though she is not related to me by blood, she is like a daughter to me. I can understand why your father thought you would be the best for the job.”

“Quite far up north. My clan is located pretty close to a human settlement and from what I’ve heard most clans prefer to stay away from those.” He took a short moment to think about the past. “I was born in The Court of The Butterflies. I don’t remember it though and my mother didn’t talk about it much.” He sighed. “She thought that Whiskered was a new chance for us.”

Vie looked genuinely surprised at his comment. “Really? Isn’t that worse? Knowing that some cat do magic and you don’t? I couldn’t live like that.” Then she shook her head at his question. “Not yet. As you said, I only just started. I learnt some stuff about herbs, but I will need to do a lot of experimenting before I can figure out their uses for magic.” She grinned and a flicker of trickery played in her eye. “Would you like to be my test subject?”

Nether smiled, listening to the story. She really enjoyed Bonaparte being so passionate about his clan and the connections within it. When she herself was asked a question, her expression changed and became uncertain. “Well…”, she started awkwardly. “It’s pretty new. There was just me and Nefari… Oh! Nefari! He’s out healer and researcher. Recently he found a guide that tells us… well, we’re not completely sure yet, but I think it leads to our ancestors or a land we come from!” She smiled, remembering that her clan, although new, has something interesting to say about itself.

Nefari listened with a smile and then laughed awkwardly at the last question. “Well, as I said, I haven’t had to do much healing so far in this clan, but I can do a lot with herbs. I know which ones help with pain, stop infections, strengthen kits and queens and all sorts of stuff like that. I hope it doesn’t come to that, but I’ll be able to help with frostbite or broken paws. It’s pretty likely to happen when it gets cold and rivers will freeze.”

Petalstar’s nose scrunched up, “Ugh that sounds exhausting. And even if you weren’t grieving, it’s so hard to not be able to get some time with your dad without him bringing up some other sibling. I was the middle kit of five in my litter, and I’m honestly glad I left when my parents were about to have a second litter. Like I love my own kits, but other cat’s kits are so exhausting.” This seemed to be the most effective way to win over the younger Molly, show similarities but temper it with superiority.

Lièvereshell smiled softly, “I know she’d be so proud of him, of all of them, and of you,” he offered. At the Tom’s next statement he broke into a much bigger grin, “Oh, she’s just lovely. I couldn’t ask for a better mate. And you know I did miss Chessclan, and all of you, something fierce the first few moons. But I’ve really been able to settle into myself in Cavernclan. It’s honestly the perfect place for me.”

Babybite’s gaze fixed on a slight, dark brown Molly who seemed a little off put by the whole ordeal and sauntered over. “Hey, feel free to tell me to leave you alone, but you looked like you were a little lonely and maybe overwhelmed? Which I totally get because you know, I’m an extrovert and the gathering is a lot even for me! Plus if you’re from a smaller clan even just the noise can be a lot. My clan is only like, oh how many now, seventy cats give it take? And we live in caves so everything echoes you know?” She stopped to catch her breath, then blushed beer red, “Oh my gosh I am SO sorry I just talked your ear off, I don’t even know your name and I haven’t introduced myself! I’m Babybite of Cavernclan, who are you?” She shifted, immediately embarrassed at her inability to have a brief conversation.

Gem grimaced, “Kits. Way too many of them. My parents alone have like, thirty between the two of them and all their relationships. It’s honestly ridiculous. Like it builds a lot of loyalty sure, but it makes dating really hard. And soooo many of my siblings are so click-y it is exhausting. Like good for you, you’re one of a million. Maybe get another personality trait you know? And now my half siblings are having their own kits, I think some are about to be apprentices. It’s just too much in my opinion.”

Some of them are getting older and I don’t really want them to go to waste, so if you ever know someone who could use them I’d be happy to hand them off.” Sometimes accepting help was easier if it seemed like a favor.

It's great that most Clans are so accepting of those who are desperately looking for a new home," she meowed gently, remembering how many cats had appeared on their borders and begged for sanctuary. She had been in their paws once, and she would never turn one away. Even if ChessClan had nearly swelled past its borders, their hospitality towards those who needed it was unmatched. "Has PinyonClan had any cats like that? I know you're quite new, but sometimes they find the tiniest of Clans in the hopes it will stay together for longer," she meowed curiously. She remembered the stories of how Rookstar, Richterstar, Juncoflight, Sweethen, and Loonfrost had joined in ChessClan's first moon after their former Clan, JaggedClan, had fallen apart. That story was a strange one, but she knew each of those cats had been proud of their former home.

Wolfchill had to smother a laugh as Wrenspark expressed her admiration for her small Clan. "Well, I'm a member of ChessClan, and we have well over a hundred cats in our camp. It's a little cramped at times, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. We're all quite close, like one big family. I joined after ChessClan grew huge, so it's all I've ever known. Still, we all work together to make the best life possible. With so many cats, you never get tired of each other because you can always find someone else to be around," she chuckled, remembering how many times she'd ducked out of a conversation after growing annoyed and moving to another group of chatting cats.

Freuxfreckle's heart swelled as Lievreshell expressed his genuine feelings about CavernClan. "All of ChessClan wishes you and you Clan well. You know that you can come to us if you are ever in need of help. I'll absolutely have to tell Richterstar about where you ran off to, but I know he'll be downright ecstatic to hear you seem to be thriving. It'll be a much needed boost to his emotions; you know how draining being a leader can be," he chuckled, remembering his days as the deputy of ChessClan. He had gotten to work alongside the love of his life, but he definitely did not miss the unending stress of mediating and keeping track of who worked well together and whether all the borders had been patrolled. His head spun at the thought of ever stepping back into the role. "What rank are you in CavernClan? You mentioned something about helping found it, but you haven't quite elaborated on if you hold a rank of high regard," he prodded, curious about small details.

"You'll be fine, just find a cat who looks to be about your age and introduce yourself," she purred gently, her voice raspy and crackly after the recent cold she'd been fighting off. After seeing the young molly off, she turned and bedded down. Her old joints ached so much that she was willing to wait for some cat to approach her.

Elmspeckle grinned mischievously. "I've known too many cats who did that. A few haven't dared to show their face at a Gathering since," she whispered dramatically, casting her eyes around as if she was spilling her deepest and darkest secret. "I wouldn't want to anger any cats here, though. Imagine making an enemy in another Clan over something as silly as a conversation at a Gathering. That is definitely not for me!" she giggled. She could never see herself getting into a fight at a Gathering and facing Skuasoar's wrath. The advisor was one of the most intimidating cats in the Outback Runners, even if she was one of the kindest. "If I did something like that, I'd be stuck on tick duty for moons. I might even be in the elders' den by the time my punishment ended," she groaned, imagining having to dig through Snowynight's matted fur in search of small parasites.

Bonaparte was genuinely interested in this strange guide that Netherstar mentioned. "Oh wow, you think you came from a land other than where you have your camp? It's amazing that you already might be finding ancestors to guide you. One thing, though, is that dead cats are often quite snooty and mysterious for no reason," he groaned, remembering all of the cryptic messages he had once received from his ancestors. It gave him a headache to think of all the times he had had to spend days trying to untangle advice from useless filler words.

Robin forced a smile onto her face. "It's a lovely group of cats. At the moment, we're nomadic and trying to find our next place to settle down in. Of course, it's hard, but they're my Clan," she meowed. She had once called Sapsucker her platonic soulmate, and he was truly who her Clan was. She longed for him every second of every day, and today was no different. "What's TruffleClan like?" she purred.

Minnow's Mumble groaned, not wanting to explain the deep history of the savanna. "There were once five orders, each named after an animal on the savanna. We're the only one left," he meowed, omitting the bloody war that had resulted in their triumphant ruling of the land. It was a dark history, and one he didn't quite like, but he had to know regardless. It had revolted him when he first joined the Clan, but he had grown used to the rather unique ways in which the Order of the Hyena conducted itself. Besides stealing prey, they had a no-questions policy when it came to strangers in their territory. If they even looked like they posed a threat, they were to be intimidated until they left.

Our leader had kits the same moon the deputy was severely injured, and I was the next in line because Hollowsong, our med cat, needed to be spending her time on the injured or delicate cats at the time. But normally I’m a Decider, which you probably have never heard of. It’s a Cavernclan specific position, since we live in such dangerous places it can be hard to form emotional attachments, but we needed to ensure the future of the clan. So, I pair up cats to be “mates” until they find love on their own. It’s mostly a precaution, but it has led to several very happy mateships.” He knew it could sound odd to others, Petalstar had warned them and of course he himself had been wary of the possible reactions of other cats, let alone his old clan mates. But, what was done was done, and he just had to pray his old friend had a good reaction.

Freuxfreckle was impressed by Lievreshell's resume, and he dipped his head respectfully towards the tom. "Taking the responsibility of essentially the entire Clan onto your shoulders is very admirable," he purred, a smile crinkling the corners of his eyes. As the tom went on to explain his role in CavernClan, he couldn't help but wrinkle his nose and think very hard. "No cat is forced into an unwilling mateship, correct? And they can leave for a cat they love at any time?" he meowed, wanting to be absolutely sure. He could understand the usefulness of such a position, but a spot in his heart gave a mighty cry of protest. He remembered how trapped Rookstar had felt before ending his previous mateship and turning his eyes towards Freuxfreckle. The tom had tried to have both, willingly accepting that he was polyamorous, but Chasmstar had been reluctant and downright rude when the topic had been brought up. It had nearly broken him to see Rookstar so torn between the two cats he loved, but Chasmstar had effectively shut him out and forced him to rely on Freuxfreckle for help. "You say there have been multiple happy mateships, right? I'm guessing that means you keep up with the pairings after the decision was made?" he prompted, curious about how dedicated to his position Lievreshell was.

For a few moments Tealeaf just sat there, blinking. Her brain was processing all the information she just received in rapid fashion. When it finally clicked, she seemed a little spooked. “Oh! Why not just give us a map, eh?”

The large maine coon laughed at his companion's antics, "I suppose so. I wouldn't want to go near a sneezing cockroach, especially if it's near prey." He nodded at her next words, "I'm lucky I have such thick fur. It's extremely helpful in the tundra. My shorthaired clanmates aren't as lucky, unfortunately. They still manage to live here, but with more difficulty than us." He mewed, "Though we do have measures, such as making blankets out of moss, to make sure they don't freeze in the middle of the night." The large tom thought for a few moments, "It's a huge clan, one of the biggest. We have about two hundred cats. I remember when we had under seventy five." Cockroachstar chuckled, "I do. I have one living daughter, her name is Mantismoon. She and her mate, Anacondapath, just had a litter of three kits. They are the cutest things!" We’ve managed to survive in this harsh environment, and I hope we can for many more moons.” He stopped for a moment before continuing, “And Seaclan lives near a sea, I presume?”

"my daughter was the one hit hardest by it, I got bit pushing her out of the way, so she felt it was her fault. I think she still feels guilty, but I'm quite proud of her. I was told she was quick to stand her ground and protect me when I was out."
