A lonely girl without a friend in the world,
A bear at a toy store made her happiness unfurl.
Like feathered wings, it grew around her,
Surrounding her in a bliss as beautiful as a flower.

The little girl clung tightly to her worn brown bear, watching the trees fly by. She missed her parents ever so deeply. She had never lived in a good neighbourhood; War raged around her. Finally, it took two of those she loved dearly. The social worker examined Cecilia's folder vaguely as she drove. "Cecilia, would you rather live in a group building, or a foster home?" she asked quietly, sorrowful sympathy heavy in her calm, peaceful voice.
The little girl didn't respond. She stared out the window with a blank expression, the streaks of her drying tears and the holes in her tiny heart the only remaining evidence of the incident. She wanted to say neither. But the words wouldn't form. Her voice couldn't say them.
"Group building." the social worker muttered, scribbling something down on her folder. "Cecilia, could I have your bear?"
"Sepia." Cecilia said emotionlessly, tightening her grip around her ashen teddy.
"Hmm?"
Cecilia's teal eyes were gray and dull. "His name is Sepia."
"Oh. May I please have him? I'd like to get him cleaned up and fixed."
"No."
"Why not, Cecilia?"
The little girl turned away. "Because he loves me for who I am, and I love him for who he is. I don't want him to change at all."
"But it's just for best intentions."
She shook her head. "Sepia is perfect just how he is."

"Are you sure? Wouldn't you rather have him fixed, or have a brand new bear, or--"
Cecilia shook her head. "Sepia has been with me through everything." she said quietly. "Everything." the little girl added in a whisper. The social worker didn't reply.
The white van stopped at a big gray house. It was quite dull, much like the dark clouds covering the rainy gray sky. Cecilia liked walking in the rain; No one could tell that you were crying. She noted the peeling blueish paint, and the creaking inky roof that was missing numerous shingles. The whole house shuddered in the wind. The brown grass was way too short, and in places it was hard to tell if it was grass or dirt. The leafless willow trees draped sadly over the rickety veranda on the second floor. The wind whistled through the cracked windows, and the badly painted brown door didn't close properly. Sure, the little girl hadn't lived in a mansion when she was with her parents, but it was much better than this sad excuse for a home.
Cecilia was ushered inside. The door squeaked loudly behind her and the social worker. Twenty-some young, mean-looking kids looked up at her with dark eyes and frowns. She was sure they weren't up to welcoming a new-comer.
"Kids, this is Cecilia. You be nice to her, now." the social worker said, stepping into what looked like a tiny, pigsty-like study. She closed and locked the door behind her.
A young boy, maybe a year or two older than the new girl, stepped over to her. He tore the bear rudely from her paws, prodding it with obvious distaste. "Baby needs a bear? Pathetic." he growled, poised to claw the bear apart.
Cecilia grabbed for Sepia, but the boy jumped back, and she fell flat on her face. Her muzzle stung, and she willed herself not to cry. With a hard swallow, she spoke in as calm a voice she could muster. "My parents gave him to me. Please give him back."
The boy snickered. "Oh so it's a he? Let me guess, it has some dumb name, too? Like Chocolate, or Brownie, right?" he sneered aggressively.
Cecilia looked down, pushing the tears back. "No. It doesn't have a name. And it's an it." she muttered. "Please give it back."
"Or what? What'cha gonna do, baby? Poke me? Go off and cry? Tell on me?"
She looked up, meeting his cold, crude eyes. "No. I'll... I'll... I'll fight you." she stammered, regretting her answer after it slipped out.
The boy laughed hoarsely. "You're going to fight me?" he put his paw to her forehead and pushed her onto her haunches.
Cecilia gulped. "Y-Yes." she replied, sticking up her paw and poking him in the chest.
"Oh owwww." the boy snickered sarcastically, tripping her. Cecilia landed hard on her stomach, knocking the air out of her.

Gotta go. I'll continue tomorrow!

Little Child [m] --- Acquiescence [m]

I'm a bit too tired
A little too old
To be telling you
A tale never to be told...

But your eyes egg me on
Your smile banishes the fright
Pull a chair towards the lawn
And we'll sit for the night

It starts with a boy, a young lad
His heart's full of joy
But his eyes are sad
For he has lost his most precious toy

Image

He searches and searches
For his lost toy, that young boy
He stumbles, he lurches
That young boy, for his lost toy

But one day a merchant
A scornful young man
Approaches our lad
Preparing to speak of a scam

"I'm from far far away,"
He starts, eyes flickering,
"And I'm only going to be here for a day."
Then his eyes were snickering!

Well our young boy
He doesn't know too well
So he shakes the man's hand with joy
And hands him a shiny gold bell

Image

"Here you are sir,"
Our lad starts,
"There's the payment, and I'm sure!"
And then he broke one-hundred hearts

Then the elder pulled a wicked smile
"Okay, here's your lost toy, boy."
And the poor lad was in denial
When he was handed a toy
That was not the property of the little boy's

Image

"This isn't my toy!"
He bellowed, shouted
But the lad was no longer a boy
But a thing that sat and pouted

And that's the end
Of the story of the boy
And his lost toy...
And me, the merchant.

[ Just a note to anyone who reads my stories: Most of them deal with humans, not anthros or quads. The designs of the pets usually show what kind of clothes they usually wear, show some personality, etc. ]

"Little Dragonfly" ------------------------ Andrea

This was one of the few moments where she was finally alone. When he wasn't there, looming over her and controlling her every action. She didn't want to be with him anymore, but if she broke up with him, the outcome could be terrible...

Her alone time didn't last long. A man angrily slammed his car door and stomped up the pathway to her house. Her heart began to race. What was she going to do? She didn't have the guts to stand up for herself.

"ANDREA!" his voice boomed, echoing through the house. Andrea jolted out of her seat and tried to run and hide, but he grabbed her wrist before she could move. He jerked her back to him and held her upper arms so tightly that she yelled in pain. "What did I tell you about coming here?! You never listen, you stupid, useless girl!" He grabbed Andrea's thin chin in one of his enormous hands, and pushed her to the ground. She scooted backwards as quickly as possible, and jumped to her feet. She managed to bolt out the door and make it to her car, which she swiftly opened the door to and hopped in, pulling it closed. She turned the key and started the car, but he swung the door open violently and grabbed one of her legs. She kicked as quickly as possible and hit his face, knocking him back. She closed the door again and sped out of the driveway.

Andrea drove for at least half and hour, her heart still pounding, head throbbing and nearly hyperventilating. She stopped the car and ran into the woods, not knowing where to go. She stopped and sat at the trunk of a very large tree, pulled her knees to her chest and began to cry.

After a few minutes of her crying alone, Andrea noticed a dragonfly that landed on her foot.
"Oh, hello there, little dragonfly." She shifted positions and put her finger out for the insect. It climbed on. "I don't suppose you can help me?" Andrea asked, sighing. She had no one to turn to.

"Only if you promise to do exactly what I say, when I say."

Andrea's eyes shot open, and she looked dumbfoundedly at the bug. "Y-yes, of course," she answered, wondering when she'd fallen asleep.

"Very well. Follow me."

[ Should I continue? This will be my last story for a while, since I'm going to Ohio tomorrow and won't have much CS access.
And if anybody noticed a sort of similarity between this story and the Jaime's Star story, it's because I'm writing these to raise physical and verbal abuse awareness. ]

"Olly? It's time."

The little boy looked up mournfully at his mother, face pale and tear-streaked.

"Mama, it's not that I don't wanna stay goodbye ... I don't think I can."

She smiled sadly. "I know, Olly-Bear, but you know it's the right thing to do. Come on, baby boy."

He stood up and walked downstairs, head bowed. Leading the way to the backyard, his steps slowed as he neared the little wooden house in the middle of the grassy yard.

"Whistle for her, Olly. Come on, the sooner we do this, the better. Whistle."

Olly shook his head again and again, but knew his mother was right. Putting his fingers to his mouth, his whistled softly. "Willow."

At once, a beautiful, high-stepping white-tailed doe stepped out of the house. She walked gracefully towards the little boy and gently touched her nose to his. It was the only thing that could make him smile.

Olly's mother sighed. "Come on,Olly-Bear, let's go."

~~~
After a long, silent ride in their truck, pulling along the little trailer behind them, they came to a stop at the edge of a forest. Olly stepped out of the truck and immediately ran to open the trailer and let out Willow. His mother took a longer time, taking a deep breath and gazing into the woodland before her.
5 years ago, she had stood in this same spot, rescuing an injured baby deer. Her little boy, barely 3 years old, had raised the little doe. She had become his best friend and the pair had gotten especially close after Olly's father had passed away from cancer. But it had come time to release Willow.
She swiveled her head around. Her heart nearly broke at the sight of her little 8 year-old boy with tears going down his face, softly whispering to the doe.
"Olly-Bear? Go ahead." She took a step back.
Olly stepped forward, Willow following him until they came to a stop at the very edge of the trees. He turned to her and looked deep into her soft brown eyes.
"Willow, you're my best friend in the whole world. You were there when no one else was and you've been my friend, my secret-keeper, my listener, and my sister. I'll never forget you, as long as I live. I'll miss you, girl."
The little doe butted her head against his shoulder.
"I love you too, Willow."
Slowly, he removed the white collar from around her neck and stepped back. She began to follow, but he shook his head. Giving him one last loving glance, Willow took off into the woods, leaving Olly kneeling on the ground, sobbing.
~~~

2 years later, Olly's mother buried his small, broken body at the edge of the woods, forever with his very best friend.

Don't ask me
What you know is true
Don't have to tell you...
I love your (precious heart)

[I]
I was standing...
You were there
Two worlds collided
And they could [never] tear us apart

We could live...
For a thousand years
But if I [hurt] you
I'd make (wine) from your tears

I told you
That we could fly...
'Cause we all have (wings...)
But some of us don't know [why]

I...
I was standing....
You were there
Two (worlds) collided
And they could never, (ever) tear us [apart]...

[Never Tear Us Apart by INXS]

...

I cursed, feeling the indelible wings hovering by some unknown force behind me. They fluttered, useful for but marking me as an oddity. No matter what I did to the wings, whether it be cutting them, pouring chemicals on them, burning them...they always avoided my attack or remained, steadfast. They were a mockery of wings, those of a magpie.

Almost as bad as the wings were the markings, also those of the magpie, spread like shatters across my skin. If necessary, those could be covered, but never the stubborn wings.

Lying down, I watched the stars moving through the sky. The wings squirmed, trapped under my back. Feeling vindictive, I left them there. Maybe their suffocation could rid me of the nuisance.

I closed my eyes, sleep clouding my mind quickly. Just as I was about to succumb entirely to Sandman, I had the urge to look. Just to look. Unhappy at the random distraction surely from some part of my dreaming mind, I shifted, only for the urge to return.

I sat up, happy to indulge this odd feeling if it meant I could sleep. But perhaps I already was asleep. For what I saw was a thing of dreams.

It was a woman, dressed in what might have been a piece of the night sky itself. She had wings, glorious things also of the night sky, stretching from her back to over her head. Her eyes glowed, like fallen stars. And this woman was walking towards me, barefoot, through the forest.

As entranced as I was, I hadn't noticed my wings pop up behind me with a vengeance of there own. When I finally did, I hastily tried to catch them, keep the silly things out of sight of the sky woman. They bounced away with every grab I made, avoiding me, I imagined, quite joyfully. Frustrated, I just let them stay, hoping not to make a fool out of myself and praying it was too dark to see them in the dark.

The woman had reached me. She sad down in front of me, legs crossed, and cocked her head as if studying me. A look of curiousness was on her face. I was astounded by her own face, strangely young and old at the same time, and with those shining eyes.

She reached out her hand, tracing the marking along my eye and nose. I didn't attempt to stop her or even move, paralyzed. Then she drew her hand away...and reached behind me...and touched one of the wings, pushing it downward. It bounced back up, and she giggled, leaving me mortified.

Perfect.

Cecilia sat up, her eyes watering. It was hard to keep the tears back any longer. She couldn't fight the boy to win Sepia back. She couldn't take him back. She couldn't do anything, really.
"Aww, baby's gonna cry!" the boy laughed, tearing off one of the bear's ears.
At this point, the little girl felt tears down her cheeks. "Crying is not a sign of weakness." she whimpered, standing and walking hesitantly over to the boy. Her heart was in rage. She wished terrible things among those who had killed her parents, and she now wished terrible things to come upon this boy. She stood silently, her eyes blazing and locked with his. She raised a paw, and in seconds, the boy was thrown violently across the room and smack into a wall. He whimpered loudly, but the social worker didn't hear.
"Give me my bear back. I won't ask again!" Cecilia snarled, hot tears streaking down her face. The boy cowered back as she stepped closer, throwing the bear as if it were a bomb set to detonate in seconds. The other children stared as this little, harmless-looking girl turned and pushed open a door into another room.
Once in the room, her tears came rushing out full-throttle. She wrapped her paws around her face, muffling the sounds of her sobs. Sepia was closed tightly in those paws, comforting her as best as he could without having the ability to speak. "I hate it here!" Cecilia cried quietly. Why, why did the wars have to decide to take her parents' lives now? Why not when she was a teenager or an adult? Or why not before she was born so she wouldn't have to live in a world of horrible terror?

Sepia was closed tightly in those paws, comforting her as best as he could without having the ability to speak. "I hate it here!" Cecilia cried quietly. Why, why did the wars have to decide to take her parents' lives now? Why not when she was a teenager or an adult? Or why not before she was born so she wouldn't have to live in a world of horrible terror?

Aww, love! :)

I have decided that I no longer want to be on Chicken Smoothie. I have become too infatuated with the site. No, I am not giving away free pets; they will all go to the Pound or to good CS friends of mine.
Bye, CS!

We had nothing in common
You're the best thing I never had
We had so much in common
What goes around comes back around
If only, if only the mockingbird never called
No lies, no wrong
Why, why would you hurt me
I won't let you back
And you did, in fact, turn out to be the worst thing that happened to me
You expect me to care
Because without you, I would have lived
