Have you found chicken of the forest? I think that's what it's called, it's edible and supposedly taste like chicken
hello!! this is totally allowed. all posts regarding questions or anything to do with parasitic plants or fungi/mushrooms and slimemolds is allowed. very welcome to newbies and questions!!
my partner actually had some chicken of the woods growing in his back yard (white pored chicken or Laetiporus cincinnatus)
I unfortunately didn't get to harvest it in time since I don't live there, but I got to watch it grow for the most part!!
i' understtand you can cook it just like fried chicken. it's quite a delicacy to those who are into the niche of mushrooms.
I would love to try it as fried chicken one day, with chick-fil-a sauce, and maybe some garlic chicken scampi too! <3

I would... love to find and eat some of these. Mushrooms are so fascinating!
Do you know of any Australian plants that are edible?
I'm... genuinely not sure if any of our mushrooms are haha

im in a completely different area of the world unfortunetly

i know you guys have a wildly different variety of mushroom genuses, even way cooler looking ones lol..
so i'd imagine your plants are different as well.
many mushrooms are edible (not raw because humans cant digest chitin easily) all over the world, but it's best to learn how to ID them before you go looking for them to eat : )
you might be able to google online the best wild australian plants that are edible and how to determine whether there are look-a-likes and which ones are poisonous!

Just popping in to say this is a pretty sweet thread you've got going on here, great pictures! I wish I had a space nearby where I can look for mushrooms, not to eat or anything (i don't trust that I can ID them correctly!) but to just admire. Where I'm at the only ones I've seen lately are white mushrooms with brown flecks on them which I'm going to assume are the most commonly misidentified poisonous mushroom on my continent, Chlorophyllum molybdites (false parasol), and some small brown round mushrooms that look like tiny potatoes with black insides, and again I'm going to assume a they're a poisonous species, specifically Scleroderma citrinum (common earthball). They both popped up after several days of afternoon rain in a row a few weeks back and iNaturalist sightings of these species very close to my area lead me to think that's what those are.
I also remember seeing some pleated inkcaps in my backyard when I was younger (like, primary school young) but I haven't seen them in years. I wonder why. I always called them mars mushrooms, because they looked weird and out of this world to me. All-in-all mushrooms are fascinating things and they're a delight to see growing after periods of rain. Thanks again for making this thread and sharing the lovely pictures!

thank you

i am very excited to see that people appreciate this thread : D It's a shame you can't go looking for mushrooms to much, but hopefully some day your situation changes! i also only hunt for mushrooms just to admire them . I have never really eaten any wild mushrooms!

one of the first mushrooms that got me
into mushrooms was the ink cap! I had some in my partner's garden pop up and they just kept popping up. I do wonder why you have not seem them in a while too. I think there are a lot more to mushrooms than people think.. so many of them can look other-wordly.
thank you so much for the support <33

all content is OC.more land coral!!

this next one is Marasmius sp. i found it deep in the woods.

they are incredibly tiny, and they look so fragile! i was able to pick them and hold them though. the stalks of these mushrooms are surprisingly sturdy, it felt like a little pin!

went out earlier with my brother and found some really cool mushrooms and got some awesome pics! figured i would share them here like i often do!
feel free to post your discussion, questions, support, or even pictures of your finds here! newbies are welcome < 3all images are OC.

unsure of the genus or species yet, but i thought it looked rather fairy like. found it in the grass at the park. interesting formation <3
Chlorociboria sp.turns wood blue, and rarely actually fruits, so lucky me! look how many fruiting bodies there are! they look so cute : )

unsure of genus or species yet but LOOK. HOW.
BEAUTIFUL.
Lactarius sp.these are scattered all throughout the forest floor everywhere i go lately. their caps are orangish, often either concave or nippled. they secret a milk thats white often, and sometimes turning yellow after a few seconds.

Pholiota squarrosadecorated family <3

there are a ton of mushrooms i see people finding left and right, but i have never come across myself yet! im going to share some cool mushrooms you guys may or may not heard of yet!
the following images are NOT original content.
Mutinus spp. widely known as stinkhorns.
these mushrooms tend to be pretty stinky, they produce a foul odor and often you smell it before you see it. i've seen it growing in mulch patches or yards and woods. i've never come across this red devil's horn before but I think it would be a cool sight to see : )
Clathrus ruber also known as the basket stinkhorn!
stinkhorns come in all sorts of genuses and species, and some of them look like devil's portals or skirted ladies. this one looks like.. a science figure, or.. a basket! im not totally sure if they appear in my region, but it would be a cool sight to see ahhahaaha
Clavaria zollingeri aka violet coral!
these are in my guide field luckily, so i know i have some waiting ahead of me, but arent they just beautiful?!?! purple land coral!! sci-fi mushroom!
Lactarius indigo - the indigo milk cap
I want to find one of these so badly! when the gills are cut, it secretes a deep blue liquid! often you will see these with a very muted hue blue cap, and some strong blue gills. they are edible as well and hard to mistake for anything else.
Geastrum sp. also known as earth stars.
my mom has found a small one and brought it home to study and i put it in our garden area after. ive never found one myself but i would love to. : )
