Hi everyone! I don't think I've been on this thread before, however, my husband and I do have a cat together (I call her "Key").

Currently, I have her on Friskies and I know this isn't the best for cats but I'm not sure what else to give her. She really enjoys the seafood medley I get for her. I also give her Tiki cat wet food from time to time when I drive the 35-40 mins to the nearest Petco lol. I feed her about half a cup of food each day, as she's a slow eater and sometimes takes a little longer.

Below is a picture of our beloved "Key". She's two years old and fixed!

I just shaved my cat's lower back, and boy was that an ordeal lol.
My youngest, Pumpkin, is becoming overweight, so much so that she's no longer able to clean her lower back/the base of her tail. Because of that, she developed a couple of mats. I did try multiple times to brush her before it got bad, but the problem is that she can be very aggressive, and it just wasn't worth risking getting bitten or gashed when her patience ran out, which happened in about a minute or two, tops. Fast forward a couple of weeks, and she's got two thick mats on her back. Because of her aggression issues, I did try to find a vet office in town that would be willing to sedate and shave her, but they're all either booked out several months, or they simply won't do what I need them to. Which leads me to what happened a little bit ago. I finally just bit the bullet and asked my best friend (bless her heart, I have no idea how she's put up with me so long lol) if she'd be willing to shave Pumpkin while I hold her still. It went...quite a bit better than I expected it to, actually. I put a pillowcase over her head and front paws so she couldn't bite or scratch, then I scruffed her and held her still while my friend shaved the mats out. Took just a couple of minutes, then I turned her loose expecting her to flip out, but she just ran into the kitchen and looked back at us like "what the heck just happened?"
I'm so glad we were able to get that sorted ourselves, I wasn't looking forward to taking her to the vet and stressing her out even further. Now she's going on a diet, and I'm going to slowly work on getting her accustomed to being brushed, so hopefully this won't happen again.
Here's her admittedly very choppy haircut, if anyone's curious lol.

Hi! So, my sister has a cat (not sure the breed) named Pepper. Pepper's a female, little over a year old. My sister moved out recently, and had to leave the cat behind for reasons. Pepper isn't a very playful or friendly cat, but the weird thing is that I've noticed lately she's been in my room a LOT (napping on my bed, grooming herself in front of me, jumping on my dresser/windowsill/bookshelf, etc.) This is weird because Pepper has... Never really liked me. When she was a kitten, my sisters and i went to my Grandma's house to see her and the other kittens, and her siblings liked me a lot more than she did. (Also, off topic, but I'm actually the one who suggested the name Pepper for her... xD) Pepper hasn't really been showing signs of sadness over my sis moving out, but I have no idea why she's suddenly being so affectionate with me. What does this mean?

Sincerely,
Eldritch

Cats are just generally very aloof in their show of affection. They're also infamously stoic and tend not to show when they're stressed, upset, etc. My guess is she's just kind of coming to terms with the new living arrangement, and by extension learning to live with you. I'm sure if you spend enough time building trust and giving her affection (on her terms, of course), she'll start to like you more. c:

Helloo, I haven't posted here in probably a year but I have a cat named Chip, he's a ginger and white cat, very sweet, but recently his health has declined. Due to this, he's under supervision and is no longer allowed outside without me there to supervise him. I'm not sure what he is ill with but it's neurological (vet's words, they're doing more tests still) and it's affecting his legs. He struggles to walk - he can't walk down steps anymore, and after a few steps he needs to lay down. So I decided to keep him inside permanently, though he still goes out to use the bathroom because I'm not allowed to have a litterbox in the house (parents and stuff)

He loves going outside - he doesn't hunt animals, he's old, he just likes the weather, I guess. He used to spend time with the neighbors cats, and visit people across the street, who would give him treats and pet him. However, he lately started spending his time under the house, which usually is fine, but the issue is I refuse to let him go under there in his current condition.

He can't make a run for under the house either, so whenever I see him trying to head under while I'm with him, I just pick him up and we go back inside.

I can't be outside with him constantly though, I have a job, I have stuff I need to do inside daily - But he just sits by the back door meowing.

What are some ways I can try to make him more comfortable inside? He has two corners as of right now; one with food, water, and a few blankets he sleeps in at night, and the other just a nicer cat bed. He hasn't ever payed too much - he's an old cat, and never cared for it. He sleeps alone downstairs - I would love to bring him in my room where I think he'd be more comfortable but I have two rabbits and it's upstairs, I wouldn't want him tripping down the stairs.

Update/edit: He has FIV - not sure what stage, but I'm picking up meds from the vet tomorrow. The vet also recommended an MRI scan because he most likely has a lymphatic tumor as well, but I'm tight on money so unless they do payment plans Idk if I can do that soon.

    hi guys! long time, no post, haha. i honestly can't remember the last time i posted in here 😅 but i come to you today with a question! but first, a little back story! so, a couple of days ago i posted on my listo that i wanted a female kitten because i was tired of owning nothing but stinky boys, lol. and so! because my life is a joke, the universe decided to send me another cat. in the form of a lovely little old man ;w;

    say hello to kitty, who as of yet, does not have a name.

    Image

    i've been looking for potential owners for the past couple of days, but so far, no luck. i took him to the vet and got him checked out. no microchip. he's fixed, but no tipped ear, which suggests he was taken in as a pet and not as a trap and release. his test for FeLV came back negative, but he's FIV positive. his whole mouth was inflamed, so she gave him a shot of antibiotics and steroids. he's very skinny, his little spine and his hip bones are poking out, so she wants to wait until he puts on a bit more weight before she gives him his rabies shot and his FeLV vaccine. i haven't introduced him to any of my kitties yet, he's just been chilling in my sisters bedroom with her cat for the time being. he's very friendly, loves people, and gets along fine with other kitties from what i can tell. he hasn't tried to fight with my sisters cat despite her hissing and growling at him all the time, he just ignores her haha. so, my question to you fellow cat lovers! what should we name this cutie? my sister wants to name him malcolm, but idk, i just don't feel like it suits him, ya know? so, gimmie ideas people! what's he look like to you? i think seamus is cute, but idk, can't tell if that suits him either, lol. i kind of want a little old man name, cause we're pretty sure he's up there in age, and even if he's not, the vet made a good point and said he'd grow into it, lol. also! obviously i know that if an owner turns up, i'm gonna have to give him back, but in the mean time, i need something to call him!! <3

      @samhain.
      As above, Salem is a classic!
      Although, Sylvester is another good black cat name with 'old-man' vibes.

We had a black cat named Lunar too, that’s also a good one but more commonly heard of - around here, anyway.

    @ northern lights. & ᴍᴀᴏᴄɪғᴇʀ

    i absolutely adore the name salem, however i had a little girl kitty in the past who i blessed with that name, and she passed away not too long ago, so i'm not quite ready to pass the name onto another kitty. it might be silly, but i feel like i'd be replacing her somehow, and i don't want to do that. binx, sylvester, and lunar are so stinkin cute!! i'll add them to my list of suggestions i have typed up so far! it's quite a short list, there's only two other names on there as of currently. my sister likes the name malcolm for him, and my brother likes the name seamus. they both went with little old men names haha.
