i would absolutely love this. the other variations of the items are already available sitting there so why not have them accessible? would enable so many options for dressups.

I've been thinking the same thing and I fully support this! It would also help the cases where an item or species hasn't been correctly identified on the server. Of course this usually gets fixed eventually, but it would just be nice if we didn't have to wait for that to happen in order to dress up a specific pet, and instead could just pick that we would like the puppy/bunny/whatever version of items for this pet.
My favorite version would be a 'toggle' for each item, but just getting all items on one pet to switch would already be a huge help ^^
