Recently, Wynnie has gotten a bit more...obsessive with the plastic chewing. I knew she had pica ever since she was a kitten, but before now it's been manageable. We have a case of bottled water in the kitchen that we can't really put anywhere else, and she does chew on the plastic every so often, but I can always hear it happening so I go and give her a spritz and that usually stops her. Lately though, she's been going after any and all plastic with disturbing fervor. She even managed to swallow some without us noticing and we didn't even know until she threw it up later. I ran through the checklist of possible reasons for this behavior, but none of it really fits her aside from OCD. I knew pica is a form of OCD in cats, but I didn't really think she had full-on OCD. Looking back though, it actually does make sense. She's very particular when it comes to grooming, if I touch her when she doesn't want me to, or in a place she doesn't want me to, she'll get upset and immediately start grooming that spot. She's also got this weird thing where she'll meow at me until I get up and follow her to the kitchen so she can eat. The grooming thing and the eating thing are tolerable and not really dangerous to her, but the plastic thing is of course concerning. So I decided to go on the hunt for some bitter spray to at least deal with the plastic chewing, and I managed to find some that works surprisingly well! The brand is Harbor's, I found it on Amazon, it's got a very simple recipe but it worked almost instantly. She only had to sniff the plastic to know she shouldn't chew on it anymore. I'm so very grateful that the bitter spray worked so well, I thought it was going to be so much more difficult.
The next problem is...getting her into the vet so they can definitely determine that she does have OCD, and then get her on medication. Never thought I was going to have a cat with a mental illness, but here we are.

here ' s the story
we already have 3 cats , 3 dogs (plus a foster so technically 4 at the time), and then my rat . my grandmother has dementia and can no longer take care of her cat , she lives 2 states away . my father feels bad that he can ' t directly help so he takes her cat off her so she doesn ' t get taken to a shelter or something . we give the foster back to make room for the cat . cat has been hit by a car , doesn ' t have a name , is barely litter trained , amongst other things .
we name her echo because she just lays there and meows after any noise she hears and we figure out she ' s probably about 10
she can ' t walk in a straight line . on top of being hit by a car , vet also suspects she had some virus in the womb and now her brain is half the size it should be . so we renovated the extra dog crate (that was being used by the foster , who ' s a greyhound so plenty of space) and make her a litterbox out of storage bins because she can ' t go down the stairs to the basement , where the litter boxes and food are, without falling . when walking she basically hits herself in the face with her butt and has to keep her nails in the carpet , but sometimes still falls over . it ' s like having a very small toddler who is learning how to walk .
but when i tell you she is the sweetest little thing i have ever had the luck to lay eyes on

Still have sage, whom survived our trailer fire last December. She’s turned on the kids and has attacked my stepdaughter, son and daughter. I can’t trust her being inside with a newborn on the way..

But she’s still doing good!!

my cats are also doing good!! been 100+ degrees here so we havent been able to let them out a lot but we did today and they were so happy!! Kita's fur is also not matted anymore!! we think she just need to shed it off <3

I adopted a cat a few months ago because he looked a bit like a combination of an old tuxedo cat I had as a kid and a russian blue kitten i also raised.
The shelter told me he was 5 years old, I have a hard time believing this unless he is secretly drinking a lot of coffee behind the scenes to wire him up so much because he has more energy than the the bunny mascot for that battery brand. His favorite pass time is apparently transforming into a herd of wild horses to run up and down my stairs producing thunderous rumbling that simply does not compute when one considers how smol and soff he is.

But, anyway, over this week I've been doing some research about him and I have discovered that he is perhaps not, in fact, part Russian Blue and rather some part Charteux. From details like the round, smiling face to the richer grey coat and even the scarcity of his tiny trilling mew of a chirp in place of proper meows. I never even really knew about this breed before but honestly it seems to really suit my lifestyle from what I've read and experienced with my boy... except for the hyperspeed thing. That's a little bit more than I bargained for, but if he gets me off my lazy butt to play with him every day I guess that's a good thing. Seriously. He just wants to play, all the time.
