Destiny 2 Fan Club

Postby Restful Dead » Thu May 26, 2022 3:25 am

With the new season in Destiny 2 upon us, I thought I'd make a club so people can discuss the game! I know there's not many D2 fans here on CS, so hopefully this will be a good place for us to gather and talk about one of our favorite games! As far as I can tell, there's been one other D2 fan club on here, but it hasn't been active in 2 years, so hopefully it's okay for me to make a new one! With that out of the way...

Welcome to the Destiny 2 fan club!

Rules:
1. All CS rules apply
2. No spamming
3. Stay on topic
4. Feel free to post artwork/fanart, just be sure to give proper credit (with links) if it's not yours!
5. Please be sure to use spoiler warnings when necessary!

And here's some questions to help us get started:
1. How long have you been playing Destiny/Destiny 2?
2. What platform do you play on?
3. Which class do you main?
4. Favorite subclass?
5. What (non-Exotic) weapons/weapon types do you like? Dislike?
6. What's your favorite Exotic weapon(s)?
7. Favorite character(s)?
8. Does your Guardian and Ghost have a name, and if so what are they?

Also feel free to post screenshots of your Guardians and their outfits! I love seeing what designs people come up with using the transmog system ^^

Some of my personal answers to the questions:

1. I'm new-ish to Destiny. Never played the first game and I only got into D2 when New Light dropped. My friends had been trying to get me into it since the first game, but I've never been a fan of fps in general and I've also never been big on Sci-fi settings and wasn't about to buy a game that I thought there was very good chance of me not enjoying, even if I played with my friends. But then the game went free-to-play and so I though eh, why not and lo-and-behold, I fell in love with the game not too long after that lol. Though if I'm going to be honest, it was mostly the story and characters that made me stay :P

2. Used to play on PS4, but then I got an Xbox One so I could actually play with my friends, though now that crossplay is a thing, that reasoning's obsolete I guess

3. I've only made one character, and it's a Warlock (you can see her down in my sig actually :P). Never really saw a need to make new characters until very recently since I keep coming up with OC ideas and I kind of want to give my Warlock a full fireteam. The biggest thing that keeps holding me back from doing so is mostly the fact that it just means I have to do that much more grinding. And since I tend to get burned out on D2 fairly quickly if I do too much grinding at once, I'd rather just try to avoid compounding on that issue. Still, this latest season has some really cool themes that would be really fitting for a couple of my OCs...

4. Solar and Void. Kinda disappointed by some of the changes in Solar 3.0 for Warlock, but even so it's still really fun to play and really like the new snap melee (Roy Mustang, anyone?). Dawnblade for the win. Void was already a somewhat close second to Solar before Void 3.0, but the changes they made with that update made me love it anymore. Devour is just soooooo good. Makes soloing things not nearly as impossible as before.

5. Some of my favorite weapon types include: Pulse rifles, auto rifles, SMGs, bows, glaives, and swords. Least favorite weapon types have to be: Shotguns, sidearms, and grenade launchers.

6. Can't really name a singular favorite because I have a few lol. They include Graviton Lance, Ticcuu's Divination, Telesto, Osteo Striga, Huckleberry, and of course Gjallarhorn :P

7. My number one favorite character, in case it wasn't already obvious based on my pfp and sig lol, is Crow! I could go on for days about my reasonings, but I think I'll save that for an actual discussion :P I'd say Ikora is a relatively close second. She really grew on me last season, especially when I read her special Collector's Editon lorebook. She's just so awesome and as a Warlock main, someone both my Warlock and I look up to. I also really like Saint-14 and Zavala.

8. As stated previously, I only have the one Warlock in game as of now. She's an Awoken named Vinn and her Ghost's name is Google! Beyond that I have two other OCs currently, one is another female Awoken Warlock named Astrid and has a Ghost named Nimbus. The other is a relatively addition, a male Exo named Crash-5. I don't have a name for his Ghost just yet. I'll go into more details about these characters in another post, if anyone's interested in knowing more! (I'll still probably talk about them eventually either way, just not necessarily immediately :P)

This post is already getting long enough so I think I'll end it here, but just want to make sure everyone knows that posting is currently open!

    hello there!

love me some d2 although i've been gotten out playing as often as I used to because its nothing but grinding out activities and i don't have time.

    1. i've been playing d2 for i'd say 3-4 years? it was the game i played when i first got into gaming consoles. i also met my current bf by playing the game and alot of friends that have since became a big part of my life so v fond memories here!

    2. xbox one, only one i've ever known! i want to get into pc eventually, but that will take time as adulting comes first xD

    3. WARLOCK <3 I started as a hunter main, but after my friends told me I was terrible at hunter, I switched it up. haven't looked back.

    4. depends on the character i'm playing and activity, i tend to switch as needed. as a warlock main, i tend to go to void especially since void 3.0 dropped but majority of the times, i have to use well in big, mostly likely gonna wipe several times, situations. i use dawnblade w/ celestial fire for pvp but after it got nerfed, big OOF. dawnblade w/ celestial fire used to be sick in pvp. as a titan, always thundercrash. as a hunter, tend to run void with orpheus rig.

    Image

    5. you will always see me using some sort of bow. point of the stag, wolftone draw, any bow that make things go poof. i also tend to use my trusty ikelos smg and have a love for grenade launchers.

    6. i don't tend to use exotics but just based on looks, whisper of the worm. if i'm using one though, witherhoard.

    7. mithrax by far, eramis a close second. saint-14 makes me laugh so v close third.

    8. i don't have a name for my ghost, i'd imagine it'd be something silly like cassian (also the name of my betta lol)

also TELESTO my guy? ohmygawd the d2 gods are crying. that exotic is so disgusting in pvp. only thing that continues to trigger me nowadays. have you gotten into raiding at all or working on titles? really time-consuming but also fun to go for if you get bored of doing the same ole activities.

Yeah I totally get not wanting to play because of grinding. It was a big part of the reason I didn't play the last month of last season. It was tolerable when I first started playing, but I think they amazing storytelling Bungie's been doing has spoiled me because it's all I really care about anymore lol

I don't use Telesto in pvp. In fact, I pretty much use it strictly in Gambit because it really shreds ads. And for invaders I usually just use a rocket launcher lol. When it comes to pvp (mind you, I hate pvp, so I tend to avoid it when I can) I use pulse rifles Chattering Bone or Piece of Mind and Wolftone w/ Dragonfly (also one of my favorite bows :P). I also have a Strident Whistle w/ Incandescent on it and it's pretty good in pvp as well

I've done a few raids, yes. I haven't done Vow because honestly it scares me. I have social anxiety so the fact that there's so many callouts you have to do and so many things you have to keep track of just...no lol. And I've heard that it's one of the more difficult raids to teach as is, so yeah lol. But I've done about ten or so runs of DSC and a maybe 4 or 5 runs of VOG. Didn't get the exotic for either. I've also done a few Riven cheeses as well as one full clear of Last Wish (managed to get Thousand Voices that run as well, so that was neat), and I think my most recent raid completion was Garden so I could finally get Divinity.

Raids are fun, I guess. But I'm also not the type of person who really enjoys the sweaty, tryhardy stuff. Which is probably why I don't enjoy pvp because it's full of that nonsense lol. Dungeons are a bit more up my ally I think. Though I wasn't too big of a fan of the most recent one tbh

I’ve definitely gotten more into the storytelling myself as I’ve gotten older and lost time to grind. The game can still be super fun tho

Wolf tone with dragonfly omggg amazing bow <3 I just got a strident whistle to drop for me while playing strikes. I’ve been out of the game since witch queen dropped so I have to really get my light up and see what new weapons and gear they have in game now

That’s great that you’ve done so many. Kudos to you. It took me years to be able to raid and til this day, I’ve only done DSC once and VOG once or twice. I have a thing where I can only speak enough to people I’m really close to which makes it difficult for me when I want to raid. I don’t have 5 people on hand that all play d2, all that know a thing or two about raids, and I’m great with speaking to. It’s definitely hindered me over the years. Dungeons are my thing though! Shattered throne by far my favorite. I want to do the new ones but again, don’t have the time to sit down and get a team and learn it

Personally my favorite dungeon so far has been Grasp of Avarice, so it's unfortunate to hear that you haven't had the time to run through it. Have you tried soloing any dungeons? Honestly, I'm too afraid to even try soloing legendary Lost Sectors, much less dungeons. Mostly I just don't have that much confidence in my abilities xP Maybe one of these days though...

I think the most difficult thing that I soloed was 3 of the story missions from last season on Legend. Two of them weren't so bad but the final boss on one of them was a real pain. Surprisingly, I didn't die once during that last encounter (entirely thanks to Devour), but it was such a struggle that I kind of lost all interest in attempting the rest of the missions on legend lol

my bf and I ran through the witch queen missions... on normal and legend. we're pretty good players, even soloing, and that was the most annoyed I think I ever got on d2. the boss fight was literally so triggering - like please end. xD

I did get to play grasp of avarice.. one time LOL. It was v unique and I think it I played it more enough to know the mechanisms by heart (like I do shattered throne and prophecy), it'd be my favorite as well. anything Fallen-related is always a favorite.

I haven't managed to solo any dungeon before. I got far in the shattered throne, but the boss fight is still difficult as a solo player. master and legend lost sectors are pretty cake, but it took tons of practice and picking the brains of my friends to get the perfect loadout to use. it takes some serious practice and patience, but you'll get it! the newer lost sectors I still have to learn bc there's always a hidden area to hide out at to recover or an enemy will only pass an area at a certain time, or something that you can always guarantee is going to happen - once you know that, you can complete them pretty easily.

1. I've only been playing since mid-late February of last year, but I've been following the story for about 1-1.5 years before that thanks to a friend. I've found the game lore fascinating since I learned of it.

2. I play on PC! I'm lookign to get a console tho so I can play through D1

3. Warlock, but I play all of them, especially for endgame PvE activities. Gotta get those weeklies in for bright dust, too, lol. But the new rotating raid mechanic that appears to be farmable for raid exotics is awesome, especially since I'm still missing Eyes of Tomorrow

4. On warlock, it's arc (little nervous about the Arc 3.0 update after the warlock Solar update) but I've been having some build play fun with solar and void (especially with sunbracers), hunter is solar, and titan is all of them

5. I LOVE vulpecula from Season of the Lost, the sound, the way it behaves, 10/10 hope it gets put back in the loot pool. I really like the new glaives. I did almost the entirety of the Witch Queen campaign on legendary with my glaive. It feels so nice to use, and pairs well with devourlock builds. Other than that, I really love fusions I noticed. I have a reed's that I adore using, and much to my friends' annoyance, I slapped the butterbark shader on it, hehe. Bows too, but I mainly use Ticuu's for that to make things go Boom. I really enjoy playing with bows despite how bad my aim and reaction time is with them.

6. Tough one, but in no particular order; Xenophage, Ticuu's Divination, Gjallahorn, Heir Apparent, Anarchy,
Telesto... There's others, but I use

7. In no order, Zavala, Ikora, Eris, Bird Grandpas, Ana, Elsie, Drifter, Crow, Mara Sov, Misraaks/Mithrax, Amanda Holliday, and Caiatl. If you wanna include characters that haven't actually been met in game (only lore) Sjur Eido and Misraak's daughter Eido. Bungie writers make such interesting characters and I like them all for different reasons. I love doing deep dives on the fan lore archives sometimes, along with the grimoires I have on my shelf.

8. Warlock's name is Edira, but can't share their ghost's name at the moment since it's in flux right now. Hunter and Titan's names are TBD along with their ghosts because I'm indecisive.

I didn't notice that this was made until now, I love Destiny 2 and already have an unhealthy number of hours for someone who's only been playing for a year and a half. The stories the past year have been absolutely top notch, and getting better. I love the interweaving of previous lore threads and building up to bigger things, like the reveal in Witch Queen. I have so much lore stuff in my brain from late nights reading. And the grimoire collections are so nice, reading something physical is so nice. I also find the comics interesting, despite how canon they are being dubious, and have the collections book for that on my shelf too.

This season. Is. AWESOME. I love all of the character development, and Crow going down the path to be Hunter Vanguard. I've really enjoyed seeing his character development since I started playing. Next week's reset also has me excited for Caiatl and Ghaul developments. Especially after what was learned in the new dungeon regarding their influences over each other. I'm also really curious about Caiatl's reaction to Eris, and what leads to her agreeing to try the Sever ritual after her seemingly visceral dislike (or hatred) of Eris for using Hive Magic. Personally I think it might be related to seeing the results, especially with Zavala, given her fondness for him. She really didn't like seeing/hearing Safiyah's nightmare going after Zavala.

Going to end this here before this turns into a "Why I Love Destiny" essay, haha.

First of all I just want to apologize for not posting in this thread in forever. Been a bit busy and to be perfectly honest, sometimes my anxiety gets the better of me xP

But yeah, now that we're reaching the end of the season and we've gotten most of the major story elements for this season, I really want to know what you guys think at this point! I'm just going to go ahead and throw this out there, I've been shipping Zavala and Caiatl pretty much since Witch Queen I think, so to see their relationship slowly developing over Season of the Haunted has been really exciting and fun to watch! That cutscene where Zavala touches her arm and then Caiatl just lays her hand on Zavala's back...My heart 😭 It also wasn't lost on me the fact that Caiatl wouldn't let us touch her, but she did allow Zavala to. And then seeing our Guardian standing between the Memory of Uldren and Crow and all three of us just sharing this silent moment. And then that little smirk Uldren made before he disappeared...Of course I had to get a gif of that in my sig xD

Another thing I've loved is having Caiatl's forces fighting alongside us throughout the season and even Caiatl herself at the end there! It gives me hope that we'll see more stuff like this in the future, but with other important characters. We've been on so many missions with Crow lately, all I want is just to have him physically there by our side. So I'm hoping that this season has been them sort of testing the waters on how that sort of thing could work because I think it's something people in the community have been wanting for a while.

So Calus is a disciple of the Witness now? Or something like that? Not sure I completely understand what the implications are, but I know it's definitely not the last we'll be seeing of him. Which is unfortunate because I was really hoping we'd be able to finish him off once and for all. Easily one of my least favorite characters and this season is pretty much the first time I've personally had interactions with him. Bungie really did go out of their way in making him as gross as possible in every way possible lol. All that said, this is still easily one of my favorite seasons thus far, for multiple different reasons. Bungie's just done so much right and I'm here for it.
