yeah it took me quite a few tries as well, wonder if it's rarer or just bad rng

Hard to say at this point. I got the pink smoothie first, then traded in for another right after and got the rainbow one, and I know there's others with similar outcomes, but then there's some people who had to trade in a few times before getting the rainbow one.

Now that I'm thinking about it, it would be super cool if there were a "glitched" pet that was like, cat AND dog? Maybe it got messed up when being sold on the auction bwak but idk it would be a funny little thing
