This breed of mini drafts, a mix that was started between Haflingers and Icelandic Horses, was established in the early 1900s to assist in the development of roadways and hiking trails within Banff National Park up in Canada. Their broad chests and fluffy winter coat make living up in the cold Rockies bearable, and their densely muscled bodies make all the hard work they typically do possible for such a small breed of draft horse. Their size range varies, coming in around 13hh-15hh, with the tallest horses being only 15.0hh.

They tend to make a much better working horse rather than show horse and can often be used for carriage pulling and pulling farm equipment. They can still be ridden though despite being great working horses, and have retained the same unique gaits that Icelandic Horses are known for, the 'tölt' and 'skeið' gaits. They are typically hard working, easy going, and spirited horses, making for a great working or riding companion.

In recent years, the breed has come back into the spotlight after it had been more or less abandoned within the park and surrounding areas. Locals took it upon themselves to set up an event during the warmer months of the year to catch the wild horses, know as the "Summer Mini Round-Up". During the round-up, people from across the world can come and watch the horses parade through the main thoroughfare, making sure to keep an eye out on any horses they'd like to adopt after they've all been herded into the auction fields.

Height: 13.0hh - 15.0hh (average of 13.3hh-14.2hh)
Eyes: Any color is acceptable, natural or otherwise
Standard Mane Types: Wild Type or Loose
Standard Tail Types: Wrapped Bun or Loose
Body Types: Feathered

Unseen Genes
Manchado
Chubari Spots

Chimerism
A chimeric horse is the result of two embryos fusing while in utero and gives a horse two separate base coats. Markings will show over both coats of a chimeric horse, but dilutions will be restricted to the individual coats seen on the horse.
Chimerics can only be seen within breedings or special milestone adopts (50s and 100s), and can be either a full coat type or a brindle-type chimeric. Chimerism happens at random, so if it comes up in a breeding after twins have already been positively rolled for, the user who ordered the breeding doesn't have any say in which type of chimerism the horse will have, that decision is solely up to the artist designing the foal.

Somatic Mutations
A somatic mutation is a bodily mutation that is not heritable from parent to offspring. This mutation turns a portion of the horses coat "off" and strips a dilution from the area effected. In horses with a dilution, such as a palomino, the mutation will change the coat to chestnut; a bay will have the coat changed to black. Black or chestnut horses with a somatic mutation will have the effected area turn white.
In Grey horses, it creates blood marks, more commonly known as bloody shoulders.
In Appaloosa horses, it commonly creates what is known as Mismarked Appaloosa.

Edits
Edits such as added items, small lineart edits (i.e. horns, cloven hooves, etc.) mane/tail edits are acceptable, but all other edit types including functioning wings, lion tails, and roman noses are not acceptable. Any edits made are subject to pass in breedings via the breeding artist requested, they are not a guarantee. Any larger line edits released will be discussed among the team and done so via an event to ensure an equal opportunity for the community to obtain without charge.

back as the base coat beneath the white.

Watermark greys are not restricted, they are usually seen
in young horses as portions of the coat lighten in but other areas
remain darker in color until they grey out fully.

Summer Mini Round-Up Markings

Postby Idem » Fri Jul 22, 2022 2:43 pm

Common - (c) Uncommon - (u) Rare - (r) Limited - (l)

Examples for all of them can be found here and here!

Jasper Spots (c)
JspJsp / Jspjsp
A type of multicolored spotted marking that is located on the rump of the horse. The colors for the layers are usually slightly darker and slightly lighter than the base coat, with white interspersed within the different layer colors. Spot sizes are no larger than an orange and no smaller than a quarter. Layer patterns match with all the other spots, keeping the same color pattern. Will go under white markings and sooty, but over dilutions/modifiers.
x | x

Banding (c)
BnBn / Bnbn
A thick, multicolored striping marking that can be anywhere on the horse other than its legs. Similar to Jasper Spots, the colors for the layers are usually slightly darker and slightly lighter than the base coat, with white interspersed within the different layer colors. Striping can be thick or thin, jagged or straight, so long as there is layering within the stripes. There is also no limit to how many stripes the horse can have. Will go under white markings and sooty, but over dilutions/modifiers.
x

Druzy Roan (u)
DrnDrn / Drndrn
A type of roaning that affects large portions of white markings. Similar to druzy crystal pockets in rocks like geodes, the centers of the white markings are roaned out to create an effect similar to druzy pockets. A horse can still carry for this marking if it doesn't have any white markings, but it will only carry Druzy Roan recessively.

Rutilated (u)
RtRt / Rtrt
A marking that replicates the rutile found in rutilated quartz. Color ranges from yellow-orange to reddish orange to gold. Thin, randomly placed and randomly sized strips of gold go along the back of the horse, up the neck, and onto the face, affecting the mane coloration as well.

Tourmalinated (u)
TrtTrt / Trttrt
A marking that functions the exact same as Rutilated, but with black marks that replicate tourmaline rather than gold marks. Thin, randomly placed and randomly sized strips of black go along the back of the horse, up the neck, and onto the face, affecting the mane coloration as well.
x | x

Sooty Mossy Agate (r)
stymstym / Stymstym (Stystym)
A recessive type of Sooty marking that shares a locus with the Sooty marking. This marking will add a very dark green color to the back of a horse. Within the marking, there will be little mossy shapes that show the base coat underneath. If a horse carries for both Sooty and Sooty Moss Agate, only regular Sooty will show and they will carry for Sooty Moss Agate. Will go over dilutions and other markings, but under white markings.
x

Obsidian Spotted Appaloosa (r)
ObsObs / Obsobs
A modifier that specifically affects Appaloosa markings. When either Leopard Complex or Patn1 Appaloosas have this modifier, it changes the shape and sometimes color of the spots. The shape of the spots resembles the flecking found on snowflake obsidian, giving it an almost feathered pattern on the edges of the spots. On Appaloosa markings such as Snowflake, the spots will be entirely white. On Appaloosa markings such as Spotted Blanket, Fewspot, Leopard, and Semi Leopard, the spots appear opaque or gray-ish rather than the color of the base coat.
x | x

Gemstone Hooves (r)
ghgh / Ghgh
A recessive modifier that alters the colors of a horses hooves, turning them a bright, gemstone color. Different varieties include sapphire, emerald, ruby, garnet, peridot, opal, citrine, amethyst, labradorite, and rainbow moonstone. Any white markings on the legs that touch the hooves will lighten the color of the gemstone hooves. If only partially carried, thin stripes of gemstone color will show through the natural hoof color.

Stratum (l)
+ Stratum
A marking that works in a similar way to both dilutions and somatic mutations in the fact that other markings will go on top of it. This marking is defined by its thick, layered, and circular bands of color going around the entire horse's coat, starting in the center of the horse and working its way outwards. The colors of these circular layers are lighter and darker variations of the base coat, and vary with each band of color.

Breed Specific Markings

Postby Idem » Fri Aug 05, 2022 7:56 am

Common - (c) Uncommon - (u) Rare - (r) Limited - (l)

Tabby Face (c)
TfTf | Tftf
This facial marking that slightly goes onto the neck mimics the facial striping seen in tabby cats. It is typically a darker shade of the coat color, but can be a lighter shade of the coat color through breeding two minis that carry Tabby Face with a 20% chance to pass lighter.
x

Jackrabbit (u)
JakJak | Jakjak
Dark tipped ears with a pangare-esque color and style underside marking paired with rings around the eyes and a mustache-like shape on the upper lip, as well as the insides of the ears in the same pangare-esque color.
x

European Badger (u)
E_ / EbgEbg | E_ / Ebgebg
This facial marking has both the dark face, ears, and throat as well as white stripes and ear tips that a European Badger has. In order for this marking to show, the horse has to be carrying at least one copy of black in its genotype (E_). This marking will go over dilutions and sooty, but under white markings.
x

Merle (u)
Mrlmrl ONLY, MrlMrl is fatal
A marking that is similar to Australian Shepherd dogs or Shetland Sheepdogs. Contains darker patches of fur that go over dilutions, roaning, and sooty, but under white markings. Works much like an Overo marking and can't be bred to another Merle horse.
x

Tan Points (r)
Mrlmrl + Tan Points
Will only show if carrying for Merle AND if the base coat is red (chestnut, bay, and seal brown), but can still be carried if no Merle is present or if the base coat is black. Is a rather soft, ruddy colored underside marking that can cover the bottom half of the legs, the eyebrows, the inner ears, and lower half of the horse's face and neck, but will always show on the chest of the horse and from the ankles down on the legs. Will also go over dilutions, roaning, and sooty, but under white markings.
x

Gray Wolf (r)
GwGw | Gwgw
A sooty-like marking that resembles the dark facial hood on a gray wolf. Will only show if Sooty is present, but can still be present and not showing if Sooty is not present.
x

Zebra Mix (r)
zebzeb | Zebzeb
A rare, recessive marking that makes a mini draft look like they're crossed with a zebra! A dark and light striping that resembles the striping pattern found on Plains Zebras. The stripes are located on the rump of a mini and will continue down the back legs all the way to the hooves. Will only show if zebzeb, but will carry and not show if Zebzeb.
x

Star Touched (l)
E_/aa + Star Touched | E_/A_ + Star Touched
This modifier affects the black points (lower legs, ear tips, mane, and tail) of a horses coat color, giving them an almost galaxy-like look. This modifier will ONLY show on Bay horses (Wild Bay included) or Black horses without any dilutions or other modifiers with the exception of Gemstone Hooves. If paired with Gemstone Hooves, the color of the gemstone will be mixed into the galaxy-like markings.
