▪ ▪ ▪ ✦[ Welcome to the info dump corner ! ]

Welcome! This is a little corner where others can info dump about their interests, special interests, hyperfixations, comfort media, or whatever is currently intriguing them at the moment! These can range from shows, games, YouTubers, movies, books, hobbies, animals, and more! I created this forum thread so others who might not have others to talk to about their interests/comfort media can safely do so here. There is absolutely no judgment allowed.

Feel free to leave a massive blob of text, or just a few words. It's up to you.

I started training jiu jitsu about a year ago and I am obsessed! It has been so good for me both mentally and physically and was outside my comfort zone- if you're ever looking for a new hobby I definitely recommend it!!

omg i am absolutely going to be the person coming back to this thread once a month to revive it from the dead 🤣
i'm into a lot of niche stuff

anyway, i'm super into figure skating. the biggest, arguably most famous and influential figure skater yuzuru hanyu has retired from competitive figure skating recently.
i believe he still plans to skate professionally (i think this would include ice shows and such). but we probably won't be seeing him in competition again.

he has been skating competitively for more than a deacde, carrying an illustrious career. he's a 3-time olympic medalist, for god's sake!
and he is often called the GOAT of figure skating, for his impressive technical ability, impressive artistry, and impressive blend of both of these aspects. his skating routine's choreography, comparing them to other skaters' choreography, can make this obvious: there is advanced footwork and insane transitions between his skating throughout the entire program.

so him leaving the scene is major news.
for some people, it's heartbreaking, but for me, i think it was quite natural to happen. a lot of athletes retire after their second olympics, so anyone who goes beyond to a third is easily called a veteran. i think yuzuru could have easily kept competing, but he's been at this sport for so long, of course he'll take a step out. wishing him the best for future endeavours!

So in school you may have learned that a white object reflects all light wavelengths. A mirror also reflects all light, so what makes them different? I never thought to ask this until when I learned about it recently. Turns out that white paper has a molecular structure that allows light to penetrate it slightly and bounce around at different angles before being reflected back at many different angles. In contrast a mirror mostly reflects light at certain specific angles, which is why it can give you back a certain image. Also, in reality nothing reflects all light, just most light.

The double slit experiment is one of the coolest phenomena out there involving light. The experimenter creates an apparatus with two slits so that photons have an equal chance of passing through either. They control the setup so that only one photon can pass through at a time. After passing through, there is a screen that the photons will hit to show “where” they passed through. The weird thing is that when they have allowed several photons to pass through one after the other, instead of there being some dots on the left and some on the right, like if you did the experiment with tennis balls, there will be a pattern that resembles a wave, with alternating sections of intensity, as if you did the experiment with ripples in water. Scientists call this property of light wave-particle duality because light can behave as a wave or particles depending on the situation.

The experiment gets even weirder when you decided to measure exactly which slit each photon passes through. If you set up an observation device that gives data on which slit a photon passed through, all of a sudden the light is forced to behave like particles, and you will get the tennis ball effect. However (this is the weirdest part), if you set up the device and then secretly erase its data, you will get the wave effect. This means that the light chose to behave differently based on whether we could observe it as particles or not, AFTER it already passed through the slits.

For the record, I do not believe in Schrödinger’s cat. This is an hypothetical experiment where you set up an apparatus that reads a quantum event with a 50% chance of happening. If it happens, the device kills the cat on the room. Since scientists have found that quantum events rely on observation to actualize, it is said that before being observed the cat will be both dead and alive. The reason this won’t work in real life is because the cat itself is an observer. At the point where the cat is killed or not, it will observe that itself, so it can’t be both dead and alive. A better option would be to use a rock for the thought experiment. Maybe if the quantum event happens, the rock falls off the table. It may be that the rock would be both on the table or off the table. However, even this is doubtful to me. A bug, or even potentially bacteria, could be observers. If there were truly no observers in the room and the rock was prevented from altering the outside environment that might be perceived by observers, such as making vibrations if it fell, then this could happen. But something as dramatic and unintuitive as a both dead and alive cat cannot happen.

hi i love f1 and sebastian vettel's retirement announcement has hit me way too hard</3
i can't blame him, that man has achieved so many amazing things in his career and he's going to be remembered as one of the greats. he's gone right down in history alongside michael and i think thats so beautiful and mind blowing

he and mick schumacher are my favourite drivers and their relationship is the sweetest, most genuine dynamic i've seen in f1 and it hurts knowing mick won't have his emotional support human mentor by his side next year but i'm sure seb won't be able to stay away from either mick or the paddock for too long...the way he's took mick under his wing the same way michael did with him is absolutely heart wrenching. mick referred to him as 'like a dad' on the stage interview after he announced his retirement and honeslty besties that really hurt. seb doing for mick what michael did for him bc michael is no longer able to is one of the most bittersweet things i've ever seen but i'm so glad mick has somebody like that supporting him. i'm sure when mick gets his first podium seb is going to be watching him from the garage.

i'm super interested to see who is going to get his seat (it's gotta be piastri or hulkenberg, right?) but him putting mick forward for his seat idk...whilst i would loooove to see schumi jr in his mercedes era i am also frothing at the mouth abt his inevitable upcoming ferrari era. also haas are way stronger than aston martin rn, and probably for the forseeable seeing as aston is still rebuilding their entire team. but with his family being so close to lawrence it's v possible they'll snatch him up. i feel like tbh mick could go anywhere and any team would take him. it's the schumacher bias. he's got that paddock wrapped around his finger and he knows it. as long as daniel, mick, fernando and lewis do not leave f1 within the next 1-3 years i will b okay (i am going to be in a lot of pain bc there's no way that all of those old timers are gonna hang on much longer) but i'm rly rly rly gonna miss seb. what lewis said abt him in the paddock interview made me cry. i'm gonna be a mess when we get to abu dhabi but i imagine quite a lot of f1 fans will be just as emotional to see seb's last race anyway he's totally gonna make a comeback just like michael did when porsche finalise their merge with redbull

hi hi hi hi im so glad a thread like this exists bc i feel like nobody is interested in my ocs
n e ways im here to infodump about my newest oc, crybaby :D

she uses it/she pronouns, but mostly it/its
https://toyhou.se/17015478.crybaby
now u may be thinking. crybaby. what a weird name. but its name wasn't always crybaby.
and it didn't always look the way she does now.

its name was madeline. she lived a picture perfect life; it had caring parents and a loving girlfriend!
but all of that went bye bye when it fell into the backrooms.
it was here where she became so confused and lost and isolated that she began to forget itself.
it even forgot its own name.

she would go from room to room, trying to find a way out while scraping close to de-th on many occasions.
entities would taunt it, repeatedly calling it "crybaby" and "it". not remembering its own name, it began to think that Crybaby was really its name. it accepted these as its identity.

in one of these many near d--th occasions, is flew a little too close to the sun.
she was in large playplace room; you know, those big foam playplaces you'd play on as a kid?
imagine that, except in this case it almost seems never-ending. the playplace just stretches on forever.
Crybaby let its guard down here, she thought this place was safe. Unknowingly, a hostile entity lurks in this room.

The entity may be friendly or hostile depending on the persons mental state. A wobbly mental state will spawn a hostile entity while a stable mental state will spawn a friendly one. In Crybaby's case, it spawned a very hostile monster. It attacked her, and the world around her tried to save her - but all the world knew was colorful plastic and vibrant playplaces, so it regenerated all her wounds in a very colorful and playful style.

It did survive and is able to live life normally even with the scars and funky prosthetic leg, but obv when/if it were ever to return to the normal world it'd get a lot of weird stares.

and at the moment i dont really have an explanation for its party hat and void eye - those are just kind of design traits and i dont have a story for those yet xd any suggestions are welcome

I've found out that it's hard to info dump. It's like I get stuck because so much information is happening in my mind at once, I don't know what to do with it.

lets learn some facts about mushrooms n fungiiiiii
1 some mushrooms are bioluminescent, which means they glow on the dark :-o
2 fungi help trees talk to each other through mycelium
3 mushrooms are only a fruiting body of a fungus, which means it's only the apple on the pie.
4 some mushrooms smell like anise , strongly or lightly
