Before the stars and the planets came to be, the sky was nothing. Just an endless, dark plane. One night, with no reasonable explanation, that all changed. Tiny specks of light began to appear in every corner of the universe, each one unique in its own way. As more and more stars pebbled the night sky, a few of them seemed to have an innate attraction to one another. Those stars began to swirl, creating an orbit among each other. As more and more stars added themselves to that orbit, it began to show signs of stress. Speed increased, and an explosion of light was created. From that light, the first guardian was born.

He called himself Aries. Everywhere he went, he attracted many stars. They were all brightly colored, consisting of orange and red hues. They followed him like he was a God, never leaving his orbit and never seeming to question why. Aries loved himself, and he navigated the world with an impulsive foolishness. He was in charge, and leadership came naturally to him. As his power grew, so did his orbit of stars. He briefly stopped to wonder if he could make something of those stars. So he did. He created his own planet, by the name of Mars. Although there wasn’t any life on this planet, he took to setting fires and essentially ridding the planet of all potential life.

Time passed, and Aries grew bored. He wanted to know what more could be out there. He left his little planet behind and began traversing the universe. He came across many star orbits, similar to the one that created him, but he thought little of it and continued on. One night, an explosion lit up the sky once more, causing Aries to cower in fear for the only time in his existence. Alas, another guardian was created, and she went by Taurus.

Taurus and Aries quickly experienced tension, as the two navigated the world quite differently. Taurus was happy in her environment, and was unwilling to explore despite feverish efforts made by Aries. She made her position and her opinions clear, often causing Aries to lose his temper. They would fight consistently, until Aries decided he simply wouldn’t take her anymore. He left her behind, continuing to journey forward. In the meantime, Taurus had a planet of her own to care for, beautiful Venus.

As time passed, the supernova’s created ten more guardians, all with unique perspectives, skills, and traits. Ecosystems and relationships were created, and some possessed such a camaraderie that planets were even being shared. Taurus and Libra shared two common themes, love and beauty, leading them to govern Venus together, while Gemini and Virgo shared planet Mercury, through mutual communication skills. However, planet Earth was not governed by any single guardian. Instead, they all watched over it together, each having their own followers, symbols, and elements.

The Zodiac Tribe resides in a small clearing in the center of a forest grove. Their camp has several options for resting places, depending on preference. There are two rocky overhangs on opposite sides of camp, with vines and ivy to help them blend with the forest atmosphere. Cats that prefer cover during the day or at night may reside there. The rest of the camp is fairly open, with some branch cover in the spring and summer months. Cats are left to make their own dens from the foliage and underbrush encircling the camp. The camp floor has some foliage coverage, with a dirt base. Extra foliage can be cut away to create training and play areas for kits and apprentices.

Sun Rock
Sun Rock is a long slab of sandstone rock located South of camp. It is known for retaining warmth all year round, and is most popular during the winter months. It is said that the guardian of the Sun, Leo, blesses it with his warmth.

Neptune’s Lake
Neptune’s Lake is a moderately sized body of water, with about twenty feet in depth at its center. It serves as the tribe’s main water and fishing source. Unlike Sun Rock, its temperature remains bitter cold all year round. It is not a popular spot for swimming. It is North of camp.

Mercury’s Grove
Mercury’s Grove is an area located just East of Neptune’s Lake. It has dense tree cover, and is the most popular place to catch prey such as birds and squirrels. An abundance of noise, such as bird song and chattering, can be heard upon entering the grove. It is not a popular place for peace and quiet.

The Venus Waterfall
Venus’s Waterfall is located on the outskirts of their territory. It isn’t as much a waterfall as it is a trickle that falls into a small pool on the forest floor. Nevertheless, it was known to be a meeting place among lovers and those that were in the courting phase of a new bond.

➙When a lead guide dies, the guardians come together and make a choice. They will vote on whether they believe the current apprentice guide is the best successor. If majority say no, a new successor will be chosen and appointed. The healer will be notified with a sign or symbol of their decision. If the current apprentice guide is not chosen, they will be demoted to their original position within the tribe.

➙Names are given based on the element that each cat is a part of. Names are usually only 1-3 syllables long. For example, common Earth names include Oak and Birch. Common water names may include River or Mist. Those names remain with them throughout life, unless they are appointed as a guide or healer. The lead guide begins with ‘Oracle’, the apprentice guide will have the title of ‘Aide’ and every healer will have the title of ‘Shaman.’

➙Zodiacs are appointed at birth. Guardians will guide their own cats from above, but step in when matters concern them all. Energies from the planets also factor into personality. Due to the complexity of astrology, I’ve decided to simplify the clan by only giving each cat a Sun sign.

➙Upon death, each cat is sent off differently depending on element. Fire and Air sign natives are cremated, Earth signs are buried, and Water signs are set in a constructed boat made of wood and flowers and sent down the river.

➙Healers are the only link to the guardians. To get a message from them, a cat must go through the tribe’s healer. If there is a request, they are responsible for meditating and asking for it. No set place acts a link to the guardians.

➙ Celebrations are held during every equinox and solstice, to celebrate the changing of the seasons. Meditation periods are common, and prey is always kept abundant for the event.

➙ Arguments are expected, but physical altercations are not allowed.
➙ Respect the territory and landmarks, and always listen to those in authority.
➙ Fresh kill is divided equally. Everyone in the clan gets a portion. Do not waste.
➙ Warriors are in charge of foraging for herbs for the healer.
➙ Defend your clan, even at the cost of your life.
➙ Do not wander outside of the tribe borders.
➙ Kits will become apprentices between 6-10 moons. No kit is forced to be an apprentice right away. Apprentices become warriors once their training is completed and they’ve passed a series of assessments.
➙ The earliest an apprentice can transition to a warrior is 14 moons.
➙ Upon the death of the lead guide, a new apprentice guide must be appointed no later than moonhigh the next day.
➙ Boundaries must be checked and marked twice daily. Challenge trespassers.
➙ The word of the Guardians is paramount, even if the lead guide contradicts their word. Lead guides can be removed from their title if they are too rebellious.
➙ If an outsider shows an interest in clan life, do not harm them. They may have been sent by the guardians themselves.
