Max | Alpha | F-Pack | Tagging: Octavia, Enui | Location: Camp
Prey levels were yet another thing the Alpha always worried about coming into the cold season. Everyone glorified the role of an Alpha. He himself had in his youth. Had fought so hard to get it, had sacrificed everything he had to get it, and while he had ultimately succeeded, it had turned out to be far different than the glory-filled like he had expected when he had first imagined it. He saw his father with his head held high, pride in his every movement, he wanted to be like that, but the life of an Alpha seemed to be filled with endless concerns. If something happened to the pack, then he knew as well as anywhere, he would bear that weight.
"It’s the first time I’ve heard it directly," Max agreed, shaking his head. "I wasn’t stupid to the lack of big game brought in over the warmer seasons though. I had hoped it was just my imaginations. I hope the herds haven’t simply found new territory, or we may have to move over that way. They’re a big part of things for us in the seasons they’re available, and you know it as well as any other wolf, I’m sure. You’re a smart wolf. These elk and moose and deer in the warmer seasons they were here….it prevents the worrisome overhunting. Without them, the ecosystem is off. I hate to think of it, but if they don’t show again, or trail away more and more, we'll have to move with them."
Enui was as perceptive as he was, perhaps even more so, just as he had expected of her, he had hoped and prayed to the sky-dogs it was just his anxiety and the worries if an Alpha catching up with him at long last, but it appeared such was not the case, if outside eyes had noticed it too. They could afford little to no big game in winter, but if there was none in spring and summer too, then they had problems, If they hunted too much, the prey animals couldn’t reproduce, and if that was the cycle, ultimately, in the end, everyone was screwed over.
"Actually, this is a good way to bring up the matter I had meant to address," Max acknowledged. He sat up, forcing himself out of his evidently worried slouch. "We need two strong leaders in times of hardship. We’ve all had time to grieve the loss of the prior Beta, and this Pack needs someone strong and smart, someone who can think less about how to make things better for themselves, and instead think of the greater good." His amber gaze slid over towards Enui. "How would you feel about becoming the Beta when the Hunters return, Enui?"
Kazill | Warrior | F-Pack | Tagging: Blaze | Location: Camp
"Well…look at her! Most of us have started to grow our winter coats in, but she still has her summer coat. While it’s certainly beautiful and shows off her figure well, it’s not ideal for the cold weather that’s coming our way," Kaz pointed out. Kaz himself couldn’t deny touch was something he appreciated. It was beyond him how one could hate to cuddle, but he could in another way have a semblance of understanding, especially from a male in the Fire Pack, often seen as strong and stoic figures. He simply chose to ignore that part. He himself was a good fighter, he was strong and proud and brave, and those were all that matter when it came down to it.
"Of course. I can imagine." Kaz had his own fair share of scars, all of them seen to by their Healer quickly, she worked fast, but it was never fast enough. He hated the constant scent of herbs when he could be out and about, moving around, helping the Pack that he had always loved. Making himself useful. "I guess it’s just something to be mindful of? Take things easy when possible?" He suggested. It was what he did to try and avoid trouble.
Fish | Warrior | L-Pack | Tagging: River | Location: Camp
Fish understood. Maybe not understood the fear of water, but the fear of lack of acceptance. She herself had been denied and rejected by the same Pack that had birthed and raised her. Acceptance was something many wolves took for granted, and something not all wolves had to begin with. Why should she look at someone any different for being willing to be honest and vulnerable with her? It was trust, trust she refused to betray or use to laugh at someone in the same she had been mocked and ridiculed a little more than three years ago.
"What does that feel like? How do you feel her?" Fish asked. She knew she had come from a wolf. It only made sense, but her mother was long gone, she’d never felt her presence, she figured she would know if she had. The grey Warrior tilted her head to the side as if she were confused. "Act? It’s no act. I simply…choose not to be afraid anymore. I can live my life in fear of the world around me, or I can choose to move and change with it."
Blizzard | Warrior | L-Pack | Tagging: Delilah, Louve, mentions Lucas, Uciel | Location: Camp
"Delilah, sweetheart, you’d get a tummyache if you tried to do that," Blizzard chuckled. "Well…I don’t know…let’s ask your mum, okay? She’s in charge." Blizzard turned to Louve. "Well? She’s in safe paws with me, you know that. It’d be good for her to socialize a bit, give you a break. I know you aren’t on the best terms with Denzell, but he istheir father. Thoughts?" He loved spending time with his niece, the flesh and blood of his own beloved sister, but sometimes it hurt his heart to realize how absent the pups' father had been, and increasingly so at that. He could imagine it must be stressful for Louve too, when her mate wasn’t around half as much as he had been before they’d had pups.
"Maybe he is, but we knew early on that he has a much more serious attitude than most pups at his age, so it’s not necessarily a bad thing for him to get out and start learning about the world. In two months, he'll be a Trainee," Blizzard pointed out. It felt strange. Not only did his little sister have pups, but pups almost ready to become Trainees at that! "You’re a mother, and with the others…I don’t think anyone could blame you." He didn’t want to mention the lost pups in front of a survivor, there was no need for it, and no need to cause questions or panic. "I know they are, and rightfully so. You’re their mother."
Blizzard retreated, nodding towards Uciel and Lucas as he approached the prey pile. There was precious little to choose from, but Louve was in the nursery until her pups had grown to Trainees, and she still needed nourishment. He supposed the little ones took a lot of energy. He chose a late blooming squirrel from the pile, and snagged a mouse for Delilah, and delivered them to their chosen recipients. "Eat up, you two. You’ll need the energy."
Uciel | Healer Trainee | L-Pack | Tagging: Lucas | Location: Camp
Uciel nodded, but as expected of him, the young wolf felt kind of guilty in a way, eating before the others when he couldn’t go out to guard borders or bring back prey to replace what he had eaten, but he knew Healers had their role too, and what good was it if a Healer found themselves weak from malnutrition? Who would treat a sick Healer? Terra needed to eat too. He would take his share of the rabbit and meet his friend by the prey pile.
He took his portion, gently pulling apart the meat and fur, surprisingly soft and tender for this late in the season, he couldn’t help but notice, then, head down to avoid having to look at anyone, and slunk over to the prey pile to regroup with Lucas. Uciel set his meal down at his paws and crouched to take a bite. Every bit as tasty and juicy as it has looked when it had first been brought in. "Any big plans for the day?"
Arian | Warrior | F-Pack | Tagging: Kazue | Location: Camp
Arian figured was a fair assessment. She was a small wolf, barely larger than the average Trainee, but she could blend in with most of her surroundings when she tried, and her temper and tactic in battle was difficult to rival. She had anxieties on a regular basis, but on the field, she could act like she feared nothing in the world. Perhaps she was vain about it, she’d decided, but it was something she prided herself on. If nothing else, she had her pride.
"Well it’s what makes a good Warrior, is it not?" The mottled she-wolf pointed out. "Part of it is intimidation, and what I lack in size I can make up for with attitude. I do not care what the rest of the world thinks of me, so long as I can serve my Pack with all my strength and faith." Arian paused. "So…saying you’d like a spar? If you’re looking to get moving a bit, I’m game to engage," she agreed. It had been a while, long overdue.
