Three wermz sat on a dilapidated rooftop overlooking the wastes, watching the
dust billow in front of the neighboring planet's visage on the horizon. The sands had
finally settled, and the Harvester...s...had made their exit.

"I'm gonna miss him," started Pennyroyal, petting a Bellvine affectionately. "He really
could make anything grow. Can't believe he got you into gardening too, Inia."

Inia blushed, remembering her pitiful attempt at potting her first flower.

"Can you believe that he was THAT big?" she said, stretching her pairs of arms out
comically. "I mean, we knew he was a bigger fella, but wow! Who knew?"

Guilla remained silent. The other two wermz exchanged looks.

"Do you think he'll be back next spring?" asked Pennyroyal to no one in particular.

"Well, he's GOTTA. These flowers are too tasty to pass up--"

"Inia, don't eat those!! We're saving them for the chest!"

Soft humming cut through the fog of bickering and play-wrestling like a strike
of lightning. The two wermz froze, struck by the sound coming from Guilla.

They hummed a quiet tune, deep in the back of their throat, full of reverberations
and the occasional trill. When they noticed Inia and Pennyroyal had fallen silent,
Guilla trailed off silently.

"I remembered it. From when I was in the soil..."

"It's beautiful...!" gasped Pennyroyal. "How special."

"Dang, it really is. Who knew Ved had pipes too?" replied Inia. She pulled her friends
to their feet. "C'mon you two, or I'm going to eat the rest of these flowers myself."

The trio descended from the roof carefully, with the help of the Bellvines they had
befriended, and made their way through the tangle that once housed the Harvester's
shop.They each dropped a handful of flowers into the chest.

"See ya again, soon, Ved!" said Inia, as if he could hear them.

"Happy trails, and safe travels!" chirped Pennyroyal.

"..." Guilla clutched his last flower, and waddled over to the chest. Inia gave him a
loving nudge and Pennyroyal placed a supportive paw on his shoulder.

With a big smile, the verdant werm dropped their final flower into the chest.

"Thank you, Vedaris!"
