While I have no desire to debate the merits and flaws of your system, I would nevertheless like to ask how you justify having a "Staff-for-Staff swap ONLY, NO EXCEPTIONS" group when a staff pet litter isn't any different than any other monthly litter other than having increased popularity--which you say you do not factor into your math. Shouldn't I be able to offer a September monthly cat of the same year/rarity?

Personal preference on the type I receive. It's not different than asking an Event Pet in return for another Event Pet. Doesn't effect the rarity math.

Okay, but that goes directly against your 'popularity' rule. Popularity is just the most common personal opinion. Staff pets aren't worth any more than other monthly litters, they're distributed in the same duration by the same means. Saying you value them more feels hypocritical, especially given your personal opinion on URs. If you'll pardon the pun, it makes your UR complaint read very sour grapes. "People shouldn't make me pay more than the math indicates for a pet they like, but they should pay me more than the math indicates for a pet I like."

you've been on cs since 2012, so if you want to adhere to your own trading rules then there's nothing wrong with that
however some of the things you've put in your rules aren't factual according to the site itself and could confuse newer users trying to trade, especially regarding the urs that get released every year
i guess what i'm trying to say is, if you didn't want to receive opinions on the trading rules you devised why post in in a public forum where everyone can comment on it?

It is titled "Simple Versions I Use" for a reason.

It's not meant to be an official guide. It's literally just my dumbed down version of trading as I've figured out over the years.

As to why? So others can at least try and understand how trading works. Not everyone is going to know all the jargon as a newbie. In fact. I only WISH there'd been a guide like this when I'd started in 2012 instead of the long line of confusing text I found.

Note that the 2:1 math adds up... well enough up to the uncommon/rare territory - no problems here. Uncommon --> rare and rare --> very rare are a slightly larger jump than the 2:1 math warrants but not TOO drastic (ignoring certain exceptions like list VRs which are genuinely rarer). However where it falls apart is very rare --> OMG so rare. ~1 pet per 1000 users is MUCH less than ~1 per 80, meaning OMGSRs are so much rarer than VRs that we reasonably cannot apply the 2:1 rule here as the math just does not add up. Additionally, you yourself say that popularity should not be taken into account when it comes to trading values due to its subjectivity but then use your own personal feelings to devalue the UR Foods further.

This is NOT intended to be rude or devalue your feelings on trading or the Rares' List, but I feel like it is a very important thing to take into account especially if you intend to refer any newer players to this guide.

Again... this is just my version. It's meant to make things simple. It's not perfect, it's not what everyone is gonna want, but it just makes the most sense to me regardless of the ratios that Nick originally posted.

Actually, no it doesn't. Because someone might really like rats... and any Veteran player knows that the rats are among the least popular of pets. Whereas most popular pets are dragons, lions, dogs, etc.

I think you're confusing personal opinion with popularity.

Popularity, in this case, means that you're choosing to value a pet higher because everyone else does.

Personal opinion, on the other hand, can be you value this random omgsc hamster because you think it's the cutest thing you've ever seen and you just need to have it!

See the difference now? Popularity has to do with the masses.

Can the two end up being one in the same in some circumstance? Sure? By my rules should it? Absolutely not.

But hey, people will value what they value. I'm not going to tell anyone to stop liking the pets they do just because they're popular. That's kinda stupid to do honestly.

The rule just basically says: Value it because you like it, not because everyone else does and thinks it should be a high value.

Also, if we're using the same math... no. I don't pay anyone LESS than I expect them to pay me.

i gotta agree that this just feels like you took your trading rules n made a guide off of it. trading guides like this just don’t fit right w/ me because the way people trade is personalised and shouldn’t have to be put in a box.
aside from high demand pets, i feel like trading should just me “i like these pets and i’m willing to trade these in return.” demand increases a pets value due to, well, if people are desperate for it people will do what people do and increase the value of it. people don’t like certain pets, decreasing their value to them themselves. i don’t like spider pets, they give me slight discomfort, i don’t accept trades with them. however someone else may love the spider pets and collect them like i do w/ bats.
either way i doubt anyone is going to go w/ a 1:2 omgsr:vr trade unless they are new and don’t know. if we gave it a rough ratio from nick’s numbers then it should be a 1:12.5 ratio. i’m not into omgsr trading, so it’s unknown to me if that’s even fair.
for the rare to vr, it would mathematically be 1:3.2, which may not be much of a difference but if we are to do it with maths you should follow through with it.
with the omgsc to uc seems fine to me but when it comes to rares, the demand does increase. that should be taken in account for.
im not some mastermind trader, i throw pets at people and pray for them to accept but,, yk i think demand should take the wheel in some situations

I'm not in the habit of picking apart other people's posts for my own justifcation/enjoyment/whatever reason you might have had for doing this.

That's the only response you're going to get from me from your varied responses to every part of this.

Hey, no need to be passive aggressive. A lot of users have offered pretty sound critique for your system, and I think it's worthwhile to discuss because a user who would be interested in using your guide should be aware of the issues with it. If you don't have a response to the critiques other than to 1. not respond to them or 2. say that it's "just your system and you're not forcing anyone to use it," then it really doesn't seem like much in the system can really be justified or defended. If you're going to post a trading system for people to use, then be prepared for discussion around it, and for people to justifiably critique it.

This forum is for discussion, not for giving options how you personally think people should trade. If and when trading guides are created they should be created in as unbiased a manner as possible and take other people's opinions and preferences into account to be as encompassing as possible of multiple trading styles. CS has always held that each user is free to trade in the way that they personally prefer, and there are no 'official' values to pets. While generally accepted values for pets may be enforced, each user is free to value pets how they prefer, so long as both trade partners are happy with a completed trade.

Additionally, please remember that the info for pet ratios being shared here is data from 2009, after only a year of this site being a true pet-collection game. It is doubtful that those ratios are anywhere near accurate to today's counts as we have gone through multiple pet rarity updates before including one in 2012 and 2019, so the number of pets per user would be very different now to better balance pets between users.
