The ground was already dry by the time Benedict and Amaranth struck out into the outskirts. Though he knew it was the right decision, Benedict still felt a pang of sadness at leaving the Oasis behind. Looking over his shoulder, he snuck a look at Amaranth. She looked as self-assured and confident as ever, ears erect and vibrant pink tail swishing behind her. But Benedict could tell by the way her eyes darted to and fro yet seemed to focus on nothing that there was more on her mind as well.
