Anton and Nix halted simultaneously at the sudden sight of a figure in the distance. They had stayed so close their sides brushed while trotting to the lab; Anton could feel Nix tense up at the mysterious individual in front of them.

The figure began trotting closer, and Anton crouched down, seeking the protective feeling his jacket gave him for the first time in quite awhile. Their orange-pink coat came into view, and Nix gasped before leaping forward with an angry squeak.

"You're the one that's been following us around!"

The feathered werm came to a halt, eyes kind. "That I am," they replied, as if they were talking about something as mundane as the weather. "I have been watching you and your adventures. I mean you no harm-- in fact, I would like to join you. My name is Synth."
