The cats have a meeting in which the two groups, represented by Gentleman and Songbird, present their ideas for the camp and arguments why they should be its leader. Gentleman’s speech doesn’t get much of an applause, Gentleman isn’t the most popular cat. Many cheers are heard for Songbird as he enters, but much fewer when he leaves the stage. Song is charismatic and wins over the crowd with his presence, vocabulary and the care which he seems to genuinely have for the good of the cats. That is, until he makes a slip up and claims that he will close the borders to “all the awful haters from the rest of the clan”. He quickly mumbles that that’s not what he meant and hurries off to sound of unhappy whispers and a few boos. Northstar concludes the meeting.

Bacup and Sweetbee were confident in their victory, but after the speeches they start having doubts. Together with Songbird they start trying to think what will happen if they don’t win and lose the Land of Music (name pending). Song keeps brushing them off, saying that they should stay positive and that they still have a chance to win. Bacup and Bee aren’t as confident as he is and go around the territory asking cats who they will be voting for and trying to get their votes. Amber and Zoe are definitely behind them, but other cats have mixed feelings. Even Mousetrap, who was part of their camp, now considers Gentleman to be a better candidate for leader. The two young toms take on a different approach and start trying to bribe other cats and offer them favours. They also redocorated some dens, which they thought was a nice, selfless act. As they later found out, the cats that lived there thought it was an act of vandalism. By the end of the day they gain more confidence in their victory. Together with Songbird they enjoy some peace time within the bounds of their camp.

Shark strutted along with flare, proud to finally had become a knight. He approached Songbird to share the news. “You know”, he said. “Bacup had been training for as long as me, maybe even longer. He’s ready to be a knight as well. Why not let him take on his assignment?” Songbird eyed him up and down with a smal smirk. “Do you want to know the truth? The real truth?” he asked. Shark leaned back slightly. There was something different about Songbird. A side he didn’t often reveal, usually when they were alone. “Uhh, sure, give it to me”, Shark answered. Song looked over the horizon. “He asked me about it too. And I told him that as long as he’s my apprentice, he can stay a child. Carefree. Without responsibilities. I said I’m doing it for him, to let him stay young as long as possible.” His gaze turned to Shark again and his eyes seemed truthful when he spoke again. “I do mean it, don’t get me wrong. I love the kid. He’s been loyal and honestly, he’s exceeded my expectations. But that’s also the problem. Bacup is smart, intelligent, charismatic. He could rule the world if he tried, but he prefers to use his abilities to come up with new games and activities to share with Bee. I want to keep it that way.” His voice became a little more quiet and serious, without the fondness it had when speaking about his page. “If I let him become a knight, and I’m sure he would pass with flying colours, I will lose whatever power I have over him. Sure, he says he follows me because I’m like a brother to him, but… Once he’s a knight we’ll be equals. And he has so much potential… Once he realizes it, there will be nothing he can’t do.” There was a distant look in his eyes and a shiver went down Shark’s spine. He contemplates whether he should tell Bacup that Song isn’t as great as he portrays himself to be and definitely not as great as Bacup thinks he is. However, they are enemies right now and it’s quite possible Bacup wouldn’t listen to him. Not just because of their relationship, but because he might simply refuse to believe Song is imperfect.

Jinx has been in a bad moon for over a moon. She felt underappreciated, even started thinking that other cats had it in for her. It was a drastic shift in temper from her old, super happy and chatty self. Many avoided her, wanting to give her time to herself or simply being a little afraid. She tended to stay alone and dwell on her negative thoughts. Learning about Ekko’s death has tipped the scales for her. The young page had a special place in her heart. She found it and named it, even wanted to be her mentor, but it was stripped away from her by Nightfall. Yes. Him and her sister, Zoe, those were the two to blame for all the bad things that had been happening to her recently. She went furious. Yelling, with her fur standing on her back, she rushed through the grounds of the clan to find them. They had to be in the medicine den or the nursery den. Other cats seeing her outrage tried to stop her. In her blind fury she started attacking them, blaming them for not choosing her side. The confused cats had to fight back to stop her. Overpowered, Jinx ran away and hid without reaching either of her targets.

Nightfall feels guilty about Ekko’s death, thinking that maybe the tragedy wouldn’t have struck had he been there for her. As a head knight he’s assigned a new page - Roadrunner. She’s a sweet girl, around the same age as Ekko. He accepts her, but is very protective of her from the beginning. Stargazer comforts him. Night feels a little better that he has someone to share his responsibilities with, but is still worries about his kits and his new apprentice. He’s the type to take a lot of responsibility on his shoulders and blame himself when things don’t work out even when they were out of his control. It’s a very stressful moon for him, but his family makes it easier to bare.

Lady Fortune and Gentleman split up. Turns out opposites attract, but not for long.

ixxx▬a spire looms, tall and sturdy and smooth, a heavy blanket of early fall snow muting the rainforest. red and black paint peek between the snow adorning the spire, for this is the totem, and atop it, a twitch! a miniscule movement that may not have even been seen if not for the stillness of everything else around.
ixxx▬it would almost make one question their own gaze if not for another small flicker of movement, and then a pawful of snow toppling from atop the totem.
ixxx▬an orange ear appears. and then a swoosh, and a tail surfaces, a bottlebrush orange appendage with a snippet of white at the tip.
ixxx▬the creature slowly rises to a stand, shaking off his bone-deep chill, flicking frost from his whiskers and shaking his thick coat to rid himself of the evidence of the duration of his perch.
ixxx▬yellow eyes blink slowly, absorbing the terrain that billows out around him coated in white. a lake, so still it reflected the clouds overhead, feebly laps at the icy shore, chunks of freeze drifting idly upon it's surface.
ixxx▬the feline yawns; when he had arrived to this clearing, snow had not yet laid it's claim. he'd happened upon the totem - which at first appeared to be nothing more than a strange upwalker tree - and scaled it to get a better vantage point of his surroundings. he'd found the night to have beaten him there, though, and the immense dark of the moonless night rendered his perch useless. and so there he settled, intending only to sleep until morning.
ixxx▬but, as fate would have it, he slept far longer than morning.
ixxx▬the tomcat awoke in the same place he had been before, though it was still night, the moon a red gouge in the sky.
ixxx▬smoke-scent reached his nose; he cast his gaze downwards and immediately bristled. upwalkers, dozens of them, a large fire - the source of the smoke - seemingly trapped by stone before them. several dogs lay idly, gnawing on bones larger than the tom had ever seen. upwalker cloths, strung between trees, some containing snoozing upwalkers in their grasp.
ixxx▬fear pulsed through the tom; upwalkers were never any good, dogs even less so, but as he considered his escape options (which were few), he paused. not a single one of the upwalkers or canines seemed to have noticed him, and as he peered closer, he could see the firelight shifting through them, revealing them to be semi-transparent.
ixxx▬fear was joined by confusion as he watched the upwalkers feast, emitting their odd upwalker chatter as they tend to do, joyous song and the scent of food reaching the tomcat above.
ixxx▬and as quickly as they had appeared, in a mere blink, the group was gone.
ixxx▬replacing them sat nine felines, each with their heads tipped towards the tom, each leaving no shadow even with the vibrant red hues of the moon. these, too, were semi-transparent creatures.
ixxx▬one of the cats spoke, breaking the eerie silence of the staredown. "it has been many, many moons since there has been life here," she spoke, blue eyes trained stoically upon the tom's. she was a seal point molly, with a bushy coat and white tipped toes. "i am shaker of the stars."
ixxx▬a tribe name. the tom blinked in surprise; it had been a very long time since the last time he'd happened upon a clan, much less a tribe, much less a group of ghost ones in the middle of a forest hanging out where hed just seen a gaggle of upwalkers and their dogs.
ixxx▬"we are not all tribe cats," the molly spoke again, answering his unspoken question. "only myself. i once led a great tribe in this very spot, though long before you would have ever been a thought in your mother's mind." her whiskers twitched with what appeared to be amusement at speaking of her age.
ixxx▬"we are all quite surprised to see a new leader here," another feline spoke, this one a massive brown maine coon tom, his tufted ears swiveling towards the tom atop the totem. "it has been quite some time since we have seen a strong cat here. i am moosestar. i once led a clan here, as did many of my companions." he swept his tail towards the rest of the cats in the clearing, excluding shaker of the stars who was to his immediate right.
ixxx▬"we hope for you to do the same," a calico molly, again with bounties of fur, muses, her purr loud enough to be heard even from the orange tabby's perch.
ixxx▬"...me?" he asked, his voice sounding very meek to his own ears. "i have done nothing to prove myself worthy of this role. i don't even know how i got here."
ixxx▬"exactly!" the calico molly had joy on her tongue. "you found yourself brought to us, no need to be led. i am flurrytuft; i was once a medicine cat here. i saved many, many lives in this camp. i, too, found myself here by chance; swept down the waterfall while chasing a mouse!"
ixxx▬she giggled at the memory, though to the tom it sounded terrifying.
ixxx▬"you rest atop the eagle; he reaches towards the sky, beckoning our presence forth. you were called to us; your worthiness has been proven by that alone," moosestar spoke again, curling his mud-dark tail over his paws. "for that, we will grant you a clan to lead; we will guide you, if you call, but we have no doubt you will prove a valiant totemspeaker to your clan, baldstar."
ixxx▬baldstar, the voice rang firmly through the clearing; as it did, a ripple of wind swept through the clearing, flattening grass and creating small waves at the lake's edge.
ixxx▬the ghostly felines, one by one, adeptly scaled the totem, passing through baldstar. each one left a tingling warmth in him, and as he tipped his head back he watched them leap straight into the air, disappearing into the sky like nothing more than a scent on the wind.

ixxx▬–—

ixxx▬he had been on the totem for two days and two nights when he awoke. as he begins the careful climb down the totem, he rolls the name around on his tongue. "baldstar," he murmurs, and even a murmur seems loud in the silence of the ghostly white woods. he leaps down, and is consumed by a poof! of soft, powdery snow. spitting out the snow he'd disappeared into, he sprung through the snow with all his might, traversing a small trench of a path through the snow until he could reach a boulder to use as a vantage point.
ixxx▬"well," he speaks again, his words feeling raspy in his throat with lack of use. he peers around his newfound camp, a flock of geese overhead honking a happy tune. "i suppose this will do nicely."

ixxx▬–—

ixxx▬he had cleared out a hollow underneath a massive sitka spruce by the time sunhigh rolled around. his stomach gives a fierce rumble, halting his progress in insulating his den with moss he'd found hidden deep beneath the snowbanks.
ixxx▬with one last glance at the totem and his new den, baldstar set off into these thickly vegetated woods, this time to scope out the area and find something to fill the emptiness in his tummy.

WEATHER !!

LEAF-FALL || The temperature has begun to drop, and the days grow shorter and shorter. With the disappearance of the unbearable heat, predators are more commonly slinking along the outskirts of the territory. Alongside the growing dangers that come with the cold weather, kittings are beginning to get harder. Clans should stock up on prey and herbs for the coming dangerous moons, as this will be their last chance until after the next season has passed.

Summary: Daisysong suggests everyone to cool off by doing activities on the day of the gathering, so they can get together and share tongues and also disperse energy and attention away from all the murder shenanigans. Of course everyone agrees, and the apprentices are the most excited of them all.

“So how was your first night as warriors?” Hawkfeather mewed as he slipped out of the warrior’s den, stretching his legs luxuriously as he approached the three cats huddled together by the camp entrance, fur fluffed against the chilly dawn air. Close behind him were some of the young warriors, Ashstrike, Tigerjaw, and Willowtail. “Sleepy yet?” Ashstrike mewed mischievously, whiskers twitching. “You guys were lucky getting to do your first watch together, I was all alone.” In response, the group earned a huge yawn from Poppypounce, the tortoiseshell female looking ready to drop where she crouched with Duskheart and Stormfeather. “I’m proud of you all, you earned this.” Hawkfeather blinked at them, gaze resting proudly on his former apprentice. “Come on, Mistfall helped us make you three new nests,” Tigerjaw chirped. “Yours is next to mine Poppypounce,” Willowtail blinked cheerfully at her friend, and lowered her voice to a quiet whisper to the tortoiseshell. “You may be too tired to take much notice, but Mistfall and Ashstrike’s nests are super close. I’ve been trying to help nudge them closer together. Ever since Ashstrike joined us, Mistfall has been super over the moon for him. They’re more cheerful together. I’ve been shifting their nests closer and closer together. Tigerjaws knows of course, but he’s more interested in trying to compete with Emberslash and Ashstrike on who can bring back the most prey,” Willowtail rolled her eyes slightly, slight admiration flashing in her yellow eyes as she spoke of the toms. Since joining the warrior's den, she’d begun to see them in a different light, particularly Emberslash, although nothing significant had occurred between the young warriors. “Alright, these three look so tired they can collapse right here, perhaps you’d better let them rest? They don’t have much time before Woolyfur sends out the patrols.” Hawkfeather interrupted gently with a glance towards the russet deputy heading towards Morningstar’s den. He took over the dawn shift of night watch as the young warriors led their new denmates into the warriors den. True to Willowtail’s word, the nest beside Mistfall smelled strongly of the silvery-white tabby tom. As Poppypounce, Duskheart, and Stormfeather climbed into the nests Tigerjaw pointed out for them, Poppypounce drowsily pictured the pair, their fur just barely brushing before she and the other two fell asleep.

Morningstar crouched in his den with Woolyfur and Shadedleaf discussing the events of their last patrol and the sick elder they had come across. As Woolyfur described how ill the elder had seemed, Shadedleaf seemed to be growing even more concerned. Morningstar seemed thoughtful as he let Woolyfur finish. “The elder wouldn’t let us help him. He didn’t seem dangerous, just scared and harmless.” Morningstar nodded slowly and looked at Shadedleaf. “What do you think Shadedleaf?” The ebony medicine cat mewed, “I’d like to help him. It may be more difficult for him to recover on his own and Rippleshade doesn’t seem like he would mind sharing his den. Even with all the kits keeping him busy, he’s lonely in the den alone.” Morningstar agreed. The vivacious excitement the kits brought gave Rippleshade a nice distraction but that wasn’t the same as having denmates to share stories and talk with. “Woolyfur send another patrol out to find the elder and try to convince them to come back to camp for treatment. I’ll accompany you on the patrol to see if I can help.” Woolyfur nodded, adding, “I’ll send out more hunting patrols as well. We’ll need all the prey we can get with the kits growing so fast.” Shadedleaf gave a small nod of approval. “Good idea, the more prey the better. The nursery is growing so fast these days.”

“Do you two need anything?” Dappleleaf slipped into the queens den, only to pause, blinking at the chaos. Lilystem and Larkfeather rested together, eyes half-closed as they watched the kits play and wrestle. “No fair Wildkit, that was my turn!” Robinkit wailed crossly. Wildkit shook his fuzzy black and white head and batted the mossball towards Alderkit, giving Robinkit an irritated glance. “Toadkit threw it to me! You should’ve been faster if you wanted it!” As Dappleleaf blinked at the kits, wondering if she should step in, Larkfeather lifted her head to eye the kits. “Play nice my darlings. I’m sure Spottedpaw and Mintpaw wouldn’t mind you guys taking over their job of helping Rippleshade with his ticks,” The queen warned. At the chorus of their complaints, Larkfeather shook her head slightly. “Perhaps it’s time to play outside then?” With that, she stood up to usher the little ones out of the nursery. “Thanks Dappleleaf but I’m alright,” She purred gratefully as she herded the group of kits outside. “Shimmerpelt and Silvernose offered to help play with them.” With that, the fluffy queen slipped out, following after the kits. Dappleleaf nodded and looked to Lilystem still resting quietly. “I’m alright too, thank you. How are you doing though Dappleleaf? I’m so excited for you to join us here in the den although you probably won’t enjoy the chaos so much.” Lilystem spoke easily, throwing the calico a knowing look, eyes resting over her growing belly. “What?” Dappleleaf stiffened, her eyes widening. “I won’t ask you who the father is, I know you’ll tell me when you're ready. The rest of the clan will have questions though.” Lilystem’s voice was reassuring, but there was something in her gaze that Dappleleaf wasn’t so sure she liked. The look lasted only a second, but it was enough to set Dappleleaf on edge. Does Lilystem know about me and Cloudpool? Has she seen us? Dappleleaf was silent for a moment, trying to keep her fur from bristling with anxiety. Lilystem’s gaze had softened and Dappleleaf wondered if she’d truly seen something cold in the white she-cat’s gaze. “My kits do not have a father.” The calico said carefully, struggling to keep her strangled emotions from her voice. “As for the clan, gossip runs quickly throughout the clan. The elder the patrol found recently should be enough to keep their minds off my future kits and I.” Lilystem gave her a small nod. “Hopefully. I think I should join Larkfeather in watching our kits and I’m sure you are just as busy, Dappleleaf.” Dappleleaf could not tell what the white queen was thinking, but anxious thoughts shadowed her mind. Her relationship with Cloudpool was not one blessed by Starclan or even Caveclan. Though Dappleleaf doubted Lilystem truly knew anything, perhaps it would be a good idea if she and Cloudpool were more careful around each other. If there was any possibility of the pair being discovered, Dappleleaf would have to ensure the clan would not suspect them. The clan’s gossip could not include rumors of their medicine cat breaking the warrior’s code, for both Cloudpool’s sake, as well as their kits.

“Can I talk to you Burrwhisker?” Harespring stood a few feet away where the brown tabby was looking over the freshkill pile. “Oh uh sure, I was going to bring Sedgetail something first.” Harespring shrugged. “Juniperfoot actually wanted to go hunting with her now that she’s strong enough.” Burrwhisker followed his glance to the two she-cats, softening when he saw the pretty silver molly looking bright-eyed at her friend. Sedgetail caught Burrwhisker’s gaze and waved her tail cheerfully at him as the pair headed through the camp entrance. “I’ll catch you something instead if that’s alright?” Sedgetail called to him and Burrwhisker nodded gratefully, relieved to see how strong she’d grown since the broken leg had healed. “Alright Harespring what’s up?” Burrwhisker’s gaze became somewhat wary as he eyed Sedgetail’s solid dark grey brother. Harespring had never been particularly friendly or trusting towards him due to Burrwhisker’s Tumbleclan heritage. Harespring hesitated for a moment before he led Burrwhisker closer to the cave entrance, when the water’s rumble would help mask their conversation from the rest of the clan. Fortunately, most of the clan were busy on patrols or repairing dens. Larkfeather sat outside the nursery, with the seven kits playing nearby with Silvernose and Shimmerpelt, their excited chirps even reaching across the cave towards the two toms. Lilystem and Dappleleaf emerged several moments later to share tongues with the fluffy queen already outside the den. With the she-cats keeping the kits busy, no one would try to wander close enough to overhear them. Harespring met Burrwhisker’s dark green eyes with his own pale green eyes and mewed, “I’m sorry. I know I haven’t been very nice to you since you joined Caveclan, before even.” Burrwhisker opened his jaws to speak, but Harespring shook his head, “I’m not done. You’ve shown your loyalty to us since the day you joined us and especially during the battle with the badgers. You and Mintpaw have definitely proved yourselves time and time again. I should’ve been nicer to you but I was worried about Sedgetail. Juniperfoot, Sedgetail, and I were the clan’s first ever kits and apprentices. We’ve always been very close because of that and it was hard for me to think that you might change any of that or even her loyalty to Caveclan. I see now that I was wrong. I don’t know if you can forgive me but for Sedgetail’s sake, I hope we can be friends.” Harespring finished his speech and waited. Burrwhisker seemed completely caught off guard, stunned by the apology he’d never expected. Harespring seemed genuinely sorry, just a little uncomfortable by Burrwhisker’s silence. “I’d love to be friends,” The tabby flicked his tail happily. “I was worried that you’d never warm up to me even with Sedgetail’s reassurance. We can catch up with them if you would like to go hunting?” Harespring nodded, and the pair padded out of the cave to find Juniperfoot and Sedgetail. The air between them seemed a little awkward, but there were no longer any hostile feelings from the toms. As the two followed the scent trail left by the she-cats earlier, the pair even began a small conversation, and Burrwhisker told him that he wanted to ask Sedgetail to become his mate. “It’s been long enough,” Harespring purred. “For both of us. Juniperfoot and I have decided that we’re finally ready to become parents. You and Sedgetail are the only ones we have told. We don’t want to tell mom until Juniperfoot is ready.” Burrwhisker nodded in understanding, even as he thought about his own family from Tumbleclan. His parents, Addercloud and Badgertail, and his siblings, Smokefur and Dustclaw, and even Mudkit who had died before even reaching his apprenticeship. Those last days in Tumbleclan had been tense. Badgertail and Smokefur had been killed by Swanstar and he had no idea what had happened to Addercloud and Dustclaw after they’d been chased out. Although his welcome into Caveclan had not been totally friendly, Sedgetail had welcomed him with open paws. Harespring’s protectiveness over his sister was understandable and the pair were lucky to have become so close. “Shimmerpelt will be thrilled to have grand-kits in the future.” Burrwhisker told him. “Perhaps we’ll raise our kits together.” Harespring suggested thoughtfully. Burrwhisker blinked at him wide-eyed. First an apology, now Harespring’s idea. He really had meant it about being friends. “Perhaps,” He agreed, eyes brightening with hope. It would be great to eventually find out what had happened to the last of his birth family, but Caveclan was his family now. His kits would grow up surrounded by family and never know of the painful tragedy that had brought Burrwhisker to Caveclan. They’d grow up safe and happy among family and Burrwhisker was content to imagine the future kits playing with their cousins.
