Alvida's shoulders tensed momentarily. Coby. She still couldn’t believe they’d wound up in the same place again, and it had made her uneasy. The last time he’d seen her, when he’d fled her ship, he had made her a promise. The next time she saw him, he would be on a Marine ship, and would bring her back in chains. "It’s not YOU who's pitiful," she responded finally. "Coby was the cabin boy on my first ship, almost four years ago. Just a tiny little thing he was. There was a lot of anger in one tiny body though. He says things out of bitterness and spite. He’s angry you follow me, because he saw a side of me that didn’t exist. He thought me cruel and harsh, when really, all he did was misinterpret the discipline that must be given to a child. Forget his words, he speaks nonsense," she insisted.

Alvida had been a little fond of Coby in a way back then, yes. More than once she’d made a point of shoving him out of harm's way, and she kept a roof over his head and food in his belly daily, but he had still wound up hating her, she knew that, and she knew exactly why. "What do you mean, you like me? Of course you do! I like to think I’m quite charismatic, and being effortlessly beautiful certainly doesn’t hurt. You say it like it’s something to be embarrassed by, or that should be taken as a surprise."

Shawn hadn’t thought of it much, but come to think of it, where had that kid even gotten himself off to? He was usually following Coby or Lucian around while at the base. "Where IS Linkk anyway? I haven’t seen him around much recently," he noted as he followed his superiors towards the little outdoor garden. There weren’t many Seamen or Seamen Recruits around, he was one of the only ones, so it had been nice to know there was someone else close to both his age and rank. He only wished he’d gotten the chance to talk to the kid more.

"Sounds good to me," Averill agreed. He wouldn’t have expected the cub at only six years old to have thought much about what he wanted to do when he was an adult and had to start looking for work, but it was food for thought regardless. "Maybe you’ll inherit the store, but if you want to do something else with your life, there’s nothing saying you couldn’t convert it into a studio or other business," he pointed out. "Think about what YOU want to do."

The pretty boy with the dyed-and-wavy-ended black hair looked around. He was looking for Sabo, but could only shake his head. He squeaked at his boyfriend's touch, the kiss. He blushed a bit, still always blushing at stuff such as this. He smiled and nodded to the other male. "We...we'll be fine I think; we have Quin after all, if anyone does get hurt. I...I love you so much. You and my friends are the best things that have happened to me," he said, which of course included Sabo.

The redhead tilted her head as she noticed the tensity. She shook her head a couple times after that. "Well...thank you for that," she said with a small smile. She then hummed quietly as she kept on listening. She nodded along to what the other woman said. "Does he think you're going to hurt me or something? Like he'd actually care about me..." she snorted. "Would...would he care?" she then asked, just in case. She then fell silent and nodded along once more. Of course she believed her, she hadn't been there back then.

She continued to hum quietly, a continuous sound, some song stuck in her head. She then shook her head. She stopped the sound, and glanced around a moment. She then looked back to the other woman after a bit. "I...that's not...okay, yeah, of course I should like you." Coby's words came back to her, stopping her...Stopping her from saying it was a crush, or romantic. Had he even known she had a crush, though, or was it something else?

"No, he’s simply disgusted by the fact that people follow me. It’s true, I did some things that could be classified as…unfortunate in the past, but time and experience changes people." Alvida shrugged it off seemingly indifferently. "He would care, he’s a Marine, and from what I’ve heard, one of the more genuine ones, the BRAVE and NOBLE ones, who cares what happens to the people, rather than looking out for his own gain. No WONDER he was never cut out to be a pirate. Maybe it was a mistake to bring him on back then."

Alvida couldn’t hide her own bitterness, even if it was nowhere near as strong as the hostile vibes she had picked up from her encounter with Coby in Wano. She raised an eyebrow. "That’s not what? Don’t think I didn’t catch that. Come, you know you can talk with me. I’m both a captain and a friend, am I not?"

Shawn blinked. Where Linkk had gone was a sensitive subject? His mind immediately went to dark places. There had been no recent battles since he’d last caught sight of Linkk, nor had the boy been to the infirmary much as far as Shawn knew, he couldn’t have passed in combat or sickness, so that meant either he was part of some secret operation, or if he dared think worse, he was one of the Marines who had ultimately turned traitor in the end. It happened more often than anyone would like. "I…yessir. Apologies."

"I do sometimes," Averill agreed. "But most of my therapy is geared towards adults and teens with trauma. Mainly I work with troubled Marines and government folk, sometimes civilians who have trauma from pirates or bandits, and now…well, I’m sure I’ll have some new patients once whatever is going on with the Fishmen is done." Averill disliked having new patients, even if it meant bringing in more money. The less people NEEDED therapy, the better.

The redhead nodded again to what the overly lady said, then shook her head. It was sad to think he was like that. He'd been given a place to stay, and fed, and allowed to do jobs so he wouldn't get bored or whatever. At least that's what she believed, from what she'd heard. She then looked up as Alvida continued to speak. Jessa had kind of got lost in thought there. She let out a small breath, maybe a sign or almost one anyway. She shook her head, saying "I...well, you can't change the past, and you tried to be good to him right?"

She then glanced around again, not that there was much to see right now. The fishmen were still on the shore, doing who knows what. She then jumped, or flinched, or...tensed or something similar. Just seeming a little startled, caught in her thoughts again. Shaking her head, she glanced to the raven haired woman. She swallowed, then took a breath. She let it out, and said "I...I like you as more than a friend. I think. I don't know...I've never liked anyone like that before," she said.

There's roses, carnations, some sort of pink flowers. I think they were carnations or maybe roses," he said. He headed to the garden, then turned to look at the marines that had actually gone with him.

The Jaguar cub nodded to his dad, well adoptive dad, and twitched his ears. He flicked his tail, then said "It's good to have someone to talk to. When mom...I had you to talk to. When something bad or scary happens, people should talk and let it out." He was such a smart child for being so young. Then again, some children were pretty smart for their age.

Adrian nodded and said with a sigh, “I hope so.” When he talked about his friends, he couldn’t help but feel happy. Even though it was a bittersweet time for Adrian knowing at some point Sabo would return to his position in the Revolutionary, it was good that Adrian appreciated him. Honestly, Adrian couldn’t help but appreciate Sabo to. He had been there for Adrian when he needed him most and had been there for Akirra as well. Adrian couldn’t help but feel gratitude for everything Sabo had done for them. It would be hard saying goodbye, but it was for the best that Sabo did what he wanted to do. Adrian knew he would support him 100%. He said, “So I was going to ask what you wanted to do today, but looks like our time will be occupied with whatever this is.” He gestured towards the chaos.

His sigh was full of sadness and he said stooping down to both of there level, “Now listen to me Gabe and Kiia. We don’t know who these people are after and I don’t know what is going on. That is a promise.”

Luka nodded and said, “Your right about that. We need to try and avoid them as much as possible. I don’t want anyone on this crew to get hurt again. There like my family and I need to protect them. I need to protect you, my friends, and most importantly my crew. I don’t want an encounter because I don’t know how much more this crew can take. We survived many things, but it seems like there is one thing after another.” He looked around hearing the talk of other people on board the ship. He said softly to her, “All we can hope is none of this will be involving us and we can get through safely. I just don’t want anyone to get hurt and certainly don’t want to lose anyone here on this ship. I don’t want to lose you and it scares me thinking about how powerful these guys are on the sea.”

Melody rushed out and she said with a whistle at the beginning, “Sheesh can we never get a break from action.” She looked around and growled under her breath, “Seems like we can not.” It had appeared that these...things had not yet seen them maybe and there was one standing in front of all the others. She sure hoped they could avoid this fight and everything would be resolved soon. Well maybe there will be no fight. Maybe your just overreacting. Melody wanted to tell herself this, but she knew deep down that whatever those things were, they were bad news, very much bad bad news.

Kirsten looked over to him and said, “I am quite alright, just was deep in thought.” She picked up her pacing again as Kitchi talked. When he mentioned them not being prepared for this, she commented, “Your right. We still need time to recover and for this whole leadership thing with Fleet Admiral Orekani to get more stable in that position.” Was she implying anything, no, but was she implying that the position was still unstable with a new leader just appointed a few days ago, yes. She looked over to Ensign Helmeppo and said, “Sorry Ensign Helmeppo, I have neglected your presence.” Did she really mean that sorry, possibly. Helmeppo was apart of whatever the heck was going on centered around Coby. She couldn’t help but feel bitter to him. He shouldn’t even be in the Marines in the first place. He left under a battle and came back suddenly. IF she was Fleet Admiral she might have banished him from the Marines because he didn’t get a harsh enough punishment. He shouldn’t have been let back in. She said her voice emotionless and her eyes stone cold, “I assume you heard Ensign that there is a war that could be brewing.” Of course Coby would put him in her division today. Maybe it was to rub it in her face that he was Fleet Admiral and she wasn’t.

When she heard footsteps approaching, she looked up from where she was pacing and staring at the floor. It was... Coby. The pink haired Fleet Admiral himself. She stiffened ever so slightly as she saw him. She wasn’t terrified of him. She was more enraged that he had won than anything. She looked to him with her eyes slightly narrowed and cold like ice. She stopped her pacing and then said her voice again emotionless, “Yes I have Fleet Admiral Orekani. It from the sounds of it means we are about to go into a war. We have to act fast to get the upper hand on whoever is about to attack us. We CANNOT let them have the advantage over us. I would assume that you have some sort of plan already Fleet Admiral Orekani.” Put him on the spot, that was a good idea Kirsten she thought to herself. He had to have come up with something. I mean if they had nothing and this mysterious writer and there army were to attack, then he had to come up with something fast. She said, “And I would hope that you have divisions already set just in the case the attack were to come at any moment Fleet Admiral when we least expect it. You don’t know these people who are going to attack. For all we know this letter could be rouse to get us riled up and frantic and they attack now instead of after today. I would hope that the Fleet Admiral has something because you know your the Fleet Admiral of the Marines and your word is everything for people. I wouldn’t want them to attack us without a plan. I mean the Marines without a plan. That would be quite ignorant don’t you think.”

Bolt listened to there mighty leader speak and he couldn’t help but feel at awe at his proclamations. Everything his leader said had to be true. Every little thing he said. Bolt knew the devilfruit users were there target and that they would be the first they would catch. They needed the money to strengthen there army and recruit more people and so help him he would do this for Dellinger and the army. Bolt smiled and saluted standing tall to leader saying, “Yes Sir Dellinger I will do this for you.” The Stingray mink walked down and onto the land. He looked around and walked farther from the ship. He would be the best scout ever. He looked around and faintly in the distance could he see... wait, was that a ship. A gleeful look came on his face. If that was a ship, then it could mean people. He trotted back towards Dellinger and the army. He said saluting again, “Dellinger sir, I think I spotted a ship out in the distance of the ocean not to far from where we are, but I can’t be sure. There is something out there in the ocean for sure.”

Dellinger couldn’t deny he liked the attention and respect. Especially given the general LACK of respect he’d received when working under Doflamingo. That felt like eons ago, even though it had been what, two years? Three? He honestly wasn’t sure how long he’d been stuck in the only half reconstructed Impel Down. He’d been lucky enough to escape he’d never put much thought into how long he’d been in that hellish place.

"A ship?" He raised an eyebrow, turning to face the harbour again. Bolt was right though. "What’s a pirate ship doing so close to the island housing New Marineford?" He mused. "Bolt, lead the others towards New Marineford, they’re expecting us, we can find a list of bounties in there, I’ll try and get closer to the ship." Normally, being half fishman and half human, Dellinger wouldn’t be the strongest swimmer, but he’d specialized in physical combat, his muscles had been built up to a ridiculous level despite his lean build.

Deep down in her heart, Micah knew he was right. However, she had never let herself look on the downside of things, and she certainly had no intention to start now. Someone needed to be the ray of sunshine on this crew. That role had always seemed to fall on her shoulders, and she was happy to assume that role. Even so, she could acknowledge internally Luka's point. He was right to take it seriously.

"I know," she admitted. In all honesty, out here, where the crew needed hope, Luka was likely the only person right now that Micah would be completely real with. Normally, Draco, but something was off about him and she had tried to be gentler with her friend recently. "But look at us. A lot of us have Devilfruit, the rest of us are armed, we all have skills, we can hold our own. Have to believe that."

"It would," Coby agreed. Ignorant was what he had been when he had first come to the Marines, at age sixteen, lost and alone and confused, yet ecstatic just to be able to do CHORES for the officers. How far away those days seemed now. "As much as I know you’d love me to say 'actually no, please help me' I'm not going to," Coby responded, voice tense despite a relaxed body posture. "This is why I’ve already set to assigning soldiers to various divisions. Lieutenant Commander Anya and Master Chief Petty Officer Lucian have already been sent to gather as many officers as they can and await further instruction. We don’t wait for them to come to us. They’re outside now, we strike hard, we strike fast."

Coby didn’t EXACTLY have the divisions set up yet, but close. It would take a grand total of two minutes to sort everyone out, he figured, so no harm, no foul. "I don’t have the divisions set up yet. I’ve assigned Commander Tala and Ensign Helmeppo to you, and I’ll leave you with the choice of what other officers you want to bring on with you. I’ve seen Master Chief Petty Officer Angelos in battle without me in his division and it didn’t go great, so I need him in my division. Rear-Admiral Tashigi can lead a division if she’s not chosen for another group, and she frequently has Seaman Recruit Robin with her. Other than that, we have the G-5 group inhabiting Marine Headquarters, called in on emergency premises, so that’s an extra thirty officers or so for us to pick from and place. We’re in a decent setup. Once everyone's chosen, we'll arm ourselves and attack immediately, before they have the chance to block us in and trap us in our own home."

Not long ago, the idea of being put on the spot like that, regardless of if he’d had a plan, might’ve terrified Coby so much he’d barely be able to speak, but Garp hadn’t trained him to be a meek, weak coward. He’d trained him to be a forceful presence, strong and powerful, an authority figure one day. "I regret to say…we’ve lost Seaman Linkk in recent days, so he’s off the grid." That was terrible. First WEEK as Fleet Admiral and already one of the officers turned traitor. He knew it happened under ANY Admiral, but it still felt like a personal failure.

Helmeppo responded by way of a tiny nod. An Admiral had no need to apologize to an Ensign, he was simply doing his job, even if for now his job consisted of standing there and waiting for the Admiral to be finished whatever conversation she was already in the midst of at the time of his arrival. His only job in the Marines was to serve however his superiors requested. The words that were directed at him next caught him off guard, and he was glad for the black visor that would disguise the shock that had flashed through his eyes for the moment of alarm.

Helmeppo glared at Coby from the corner of his eye. "You’d think these things would go around so people could be prepared." He understood Coby wanted to keep panic to a minimum and keep chaos contained, but really? On the verge of war? Would this be like Marineford all over again? "Coby, why would you send people running around and not tell them WHY?"

She was quite used to men and women alike being entranced by her beauty now that her Devilfruit had melted away the excess fat and weight she had for too long carried with her, but a true, genuine CRUSH? Hearing someone refer to the Fleet Admiral so casually would never NOT be weird to Shawn. On duty it just…didn’t happen. Sometimes even OFF duty it didn’t happen. To the majority of the base, Coby was Orekani, and calling him that had become as natural as using his legal name. He knew from experience that calling an Admiral by their real name without explicit permission could come across as disrespectful. However, there was history between the Admiral and Lucian.

"Roses and carnations? It’s May! Isn't it just a little early for roses?" Shawn raised an eyebrow. Of course, this was the Grand Line. The strangest kinds of things happened on the Grand Line, even things that should be physically and logically impossible, so he figured he really oughtn't be surprised by early blooming flowers.

Sabo had split off from the thick of the group when the first murmurs of something about a Fishman army had first sounded. He didn’t need to be caught up in that drama until something actually HAPPENED. What he DID need to do though was talk to a pair of their crewmen, as Kass had insisted the night before. Said they’d come to her, but it sounded like it was him they ought to speak with. Curious more than anything else, the blond found the time to approach them while they were unoccupied, tipping his hat to the two and coming to stop by the ship's wooden rail, leaning back.

"So. I’m told by captain Kassandra that the pair of you were planning on talking to me about something? She wouldn’t disclose exactly what it was." Sabo raised an eyebrow. "So? I can’t help but be a little curious, given how little the three of us all talk together. We have the time now. What’s going on with you two, and how can I help?" He asked.

She made a small sound at that, saying "He really...had to catch fish or he couldn't eat?" She wasn't so sure she liked that. Then again, it might not have been his parents fault. If they couldn't get hired and make money, or their employers didn't pay enough, it wasn't really their fault. They could have given him the foo,d though...They could have given him the food and gone hungry. She remembered a time like that, in her life. When she was six and seven, and supposedly before that, her family didn't have a lot of money, and would give the food to her and her siblings, the parents going hungry rather than forcing that onto their small children.

The redhead snorted and said "Okay, yeah, maybe once or twice. That one time doesn't count though...I was like ten! Ten year olds don't know anything about love," she said. "Okay, so maybe I know what a crush is; I've never been in love. A crush isn't love...not always. It can fade out over time," she said, and shook her head a couple times. "By the way, that boy I liked turned out to be into boys. He was ten, and already apparently liked boys, not that I knew at the time."

He glanced behind them and saw An approaching with more marines. "Ah, here comes An; I mean Captain Angelos," he said quickly, not sure if he could get in trouble though it was his sibling.

"I have minimal information on his backstory. I only have what he told me. He seemed fond of throwing himself little pity parties. Annoying, but I couldn’t exactly argue. He thinks I had him under my thumb, but really, we couldn’t have gotten far without him. Literally. He was our only navigator and cartographer." Alvida hated admitting they’d had to rely on a literal child to so much as get them out of the harbour, but their crew had been largely incompetent at the time.

"Oh I agree with that. Ten year olds are babies, still trying to figure out how the world works." Alvida smirked dryly. "Actually, I’m thirty and I'M still trying to figure out how the world works." It was easy enough for her. There were dozens of people who would bend over backwards for her, just to see if they could get a smile from her. She barely had to do ANYTHING for herself anymore! She liked that too. "Heh. The world works in funny ways, doesn’t it? I understand though. I’ve never had TIME for such things. A pirate from a young age, and at first, a captain with no first mate or co-captain, I had to do EVERYTHING myself, no time for anything else," she admitted.

"That makes sense. It must be nice later in the year too," Shawn noted. Catching sight of Anya approaching, he quickly saluted, nodding to her. "Good afternoon, Captain!" He greeted her. "I guess so. He didn’t give us further orders as far as I’m aware," Shawn admitted. He glanced at Lucian. If anyone knew anything more, it would be him, but he seemed about as in the dark as the rest of them were.
