Solved, mods please lock :3

sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

So i made a picture on photoshop and saved it a bunch of times for fear of getting erased because my computer crashes randomly.
When i saved it and got out of the program, i tried opening it, but it keeps giving me this message:

could not open "name of file" becuase it is not a valid photoshop document.

This is weird, and i dont know what to do. i also noticed that it saved psd instead of png or gif.
any help please? i would not want to start over, any help at all is appreciated.
(please word your response clearly, as i am very bad with computer stuff.)

If you go to the 'save as doccument type' you will see the PSD save format you can change it to the kind of image format you want. If it says its not a valid image format try saving it as a JPEG image and see what happens. You should also try running a virus scan on your computer and see what pops up just to make sure it isn't a bug causing damage to your files. What type of computer do you have?

Well, i can't "save as document type" because i can't even open it, and i dont believe it gives me that option anywhere else.
i tried downloading a psd/pdd repair program, but it failed to repair it :C
i'm sad now.
BTW i have a windows (not sure about further details)

That happens to me when I save my image as anything other than a psd, jpeg or png. if you saved it as a gif it would have done that. I always find the best way to save anything on PS is to save as psd then save as a png. So I have it wice in two formats. I don't think there's anyway to get it back, sorry X( but...just for future, ya know.
