Midnight
Midnight stiffened as he a crack of a twig. His eyes scoured the forest, himself not moving, but only detected the slightest flicker of movement. Not enough to warrant a good shot. Or throw, in Midnight’s case. He slid the knife farther up his hand, careful not to cut his palm and keeping his hand by his side.
“I know there’s sure to be a Shadow somewhere, but I was counting on stumbling across one. I don`t want to go look for them!”
Midnight smiled, following slowly after Natsumi as she walked closer to the tree nearby where he, and obviously her too, had heard the Shadow. Midnight stopped right under the tree, flopping to a sitting position and leaning back against the tree. His posture had changed slightly though. It was no longer lounging and lazy, it was alert and prepared. Midnight was not worried about having to stand at a moment’s notice, he knew how fast the Shadows could attack and this was what he trained for anyways. Besides, it would only take a few seconds to stand from this position; one hand still grasping the knife, both hands lightly resting on the ground on either side of him, knees pulled up to his chest, and weight resting lightly on the front of his feet.
“At this point, I may as well go back.”
Midnight rested his head on his knees, keeping one eye on the tree. “Yeah.” He sighed. The Shadow would have to attack soon, Midnight knew from experience that Shadows did not leave prey easily. Shadow Catchers or not, Midnight and Natsumi were here, and they seemed unprepared. Perfect timing for the Shadow in the tree to attack.
~Diaspora~
Diaspora froze as Natsumi walked forwards. Ohhh craaappp….She ducked down under the leaves, trying not to be seen by either Midnight or Natsumi. She snuck down a few branches, closer to where Midnight was sitting, vulnerable, and where Natsumi was. Perfect. Diaspora snickered, not even trying to hide it now. This was perfect. And there was no way Diaspora would let this opportunity pass. She giggled, a dark giggle. Diaspora judged the distance with quick flickering eyes. The distance from the branch she was perched on to Natsumi. Time to start this. She scootched to the end of the branch, not caring now if either of the two Shadow Catchers saw her. Diaspora leaned over, smiling at Natsumi, and shoving her with two hands on her shoulders. She dissolved into a fit of snickers and giggles. This would be fun.
Dove
Dove continued through the city, alert and listening. She caught the noise of some people talking. Following the noise, Dove paced a little ways through an alley, spying two figures. I wonder who that could be? Her first thought was Shadows. That was always her first thought, even with her brother. She walked closer to the figures, unable to see the colour of their hair in the dark shadows of the alley. All she knew was that the colour was dark. Dove taped two fingers on the edge of her spork, keeping it at the ready. “Who are you two and why are you out here this late at night?” She growled low udner her breath.
Behind this mask, this pretty face, there's something I'm hiding
In my gracious words and careful steps there's always a chance of slipping
My mask sliding, cloak tilting, make-up dripping
I hope you never notice when my perfect mask falls
Because love makes us liars, and it made a fool out of meAfter a very long hiatus (spanning nearly two years) I have returned! : D
