- To say she had not been wanted would be melodramatic; but it did seem to be true. After nine other children and having fallen on harder than usual times, another child and a girl at that was not something her family had been very interested in.
'And she's such a little thing too...' Her mother had sighed the night the girl was born. 'Why bother naming her when I know she wont make it through the winter.'
No one else had seen any trouble with it, they all just took to calling her Veslemoy – little girl, just like her mother had said.
Even after the girl made it through that winter, and the next, and fourteen after that, Veslemoy was all she was ever called. It only reminded her constantly of the fact she was not wanted and on a nondescript Thursday that seventeenth winter she'd managed to make it though the fact was confirmed.
Veslemoy had seen the bear before the rest of them and for that moment she thought it was a perfectly wonderful thing. The little shack on the edge of the village may well have been the middle of nowhere for her – nothing interesting ever happened.
By now the dogs had begun to bark, but it did not move; It only stood there with it's hot breath billowing around it's face and drilling her with it's cold black eyes.
“What are you doing here?” She asked it, not expecting to get a reply. “There's nothing for you here.”
“Oh but there is.” The ber said with a knowing tone. It had to be the bear, there was no one else out there and his mouth did move in sync with the words that were said. The girl was not startled by that though. She'd been left to her own devices so much that no one had bothered to tell her to grow up and quit believing in fairy tales. To Veslemoy it seem perfectly logical.
She flinched as the door was opened behind her, knowing now either her one of her brothers or her father would chase it away – or worse.
“Get away from it!” She was snatched back through into the house by her mother, the door slamming shut before she could do anything else. “What did you think you were doing?”
“W-well what's it doing out here?” She scowled, tearing away from her mother's grasp and back towards the fire. If they were going to go about murdering it she certainly did not want to hear.
“Probably looking for little girls to eat.” Her eldest sister teased from the kitchen. They'd never gotten along well, especially now that she was back living at home again.
“Oh don't be stupid.” Veslemoy snarled. “I'm not a baby.” She huddled herself further into the corner, enjoying the warmth and the moment to wonder what the bear had meant.
“Where's the girl?” Her thoughts were interrupted as her father burst through the door, not needing an answer as he spotted her in the corner.
“C'mere.” He inclined his head out the door, holding it open for her. She did as she was bidden, thinking nothing of it. He kept her just outside the door, looking more serious than she had seen him in sometime. She tried shrugging off the heavy hand he lay on her shoulder, but he wouldn't move it.
“Did the bear talk to you?” he asked in a hushed tone, everyone would think he was just as crazy as she if he didnt. Even then she hesitated. Why would anyone be asking a question like that?
“Y-yeah.” She mumbled, throwing a quick glance to her side to see if the bear was still there. He was sitting now and closer than before, but he still watched her the same as before.
“Good,” Her father sighed in relief. “That's one less thing to explain.”
Veslemoy froze, finally looking up at him. “What do you mean explain?”
“Well, the bear – you've got to agree he's under some sort of enchantment, and if he isnt there isnt any reason not to believe him is there? He's agreed to make us rich... if you go and live with him.”
“Oh is that all?” Her face flushed red with rage, not at all willing to believe they wanted to be rid of her that bad. “Y-you'd just give me away like that? You dont even know where I'd be going! Or what would happen to me!”
“To my castle.” The bear answered for her father, acting as if this was all perfectly normal. The girl decided she hated him for it and would continue to hate him for however long this kept on. “You'd be treated most wonderfully.”
“Oh I bet.” She shouted, pulling away from her father and turning towards the bear. There wasnt exactly much she could do if she decided to just go and run off with her, but she was going to make certain for once they payed attention to her.
“Now be reasonable -” Her father started to drawl on, trying to hang on to her again. She dodged him easily, flinging the door open and slamming it right after her. Even after that she could still hear her father trying to plead with the bear, insistent that she would change her mind. Veslemoy had no intentions to, not ever,,.
Mmm... yeah. Curious to see if anyone guesses what it's based off X3
