Welcome to Checkered Café, can I take your order?

Checkered Café is a almost unknown Café and Inn located along the quiet backstreets of Hollow City. It is not well known by the locals, nor the tourists and it's not very well signposted. The small café is relatively insignificant compared to the rest of the busy city however for those that do happen to know or come across Checkered Café, this is a place of community. Everyone is welcome in Checkered Café, both humans and non-humans alike.

Checkered Café is both a café and an inn, for the people that know of this place it is a popular spot to hang out. It is a building in the less busy part of Hollow City and is a place where not many tourists choose to go, the only tourists here tend to be lost. The café however is known by the locals that live in the area and is a place where both humans and non-humans can hang out. They also can provide accommodation; short or long term, for a small thee or in the exchange for working in the café.

There are two lounge areas in the cafe to be served the first being the Tea Room, which is a traditional European style café. Here you can be served warm food if you choose to also dine in, or can just take it easy in a more chill and quiet environment. The second is the Wreck Room which is a more modern style lounge. The Wreck Room does not serve warm food however they can provide you with fresh, home-made smoothies and entertainment.

The Inn part of the café is located above the ground floor and is accessible by going through either the back door of the Tea Room or by going up the steps in the Wreck Room. The Inn is a number of private rooms belonging to the residents; either temporarily or full-time. These rooms are all made up of a bedroom and equipped with an clean on suit bathroom. Staff are able to have full access to the Café kitchen for cooking their own meals where as residents must purchase their own food as the rooms do not have a kitchen in them.

The facilities are very limited; there are no pools or fancy spa treatments in the inn part of the Café. It's a simple place and an old building. Those accommodations can be found located in the busier parts of Hollow City if treating yourself is desired. They do however have a small courtyard for if you wish to take a breather outside and enjoy a small quiet piece of nature.

The humans who live in or visit the café have no idea about anything magical or supernatural. Just like most, the owner of Checkered Café wants to keep the peace, especially when trouble could reflect badly on the Café. He kindly asks all residents and visitors to remain respectful of the humans and not to cause any trouble.

Personality:
Checked is a casual and relaxed guy, but very friendly, this makes his extremely easily to get along with. He has great socialization skills and loves to be around other people, this is part of the reason you will often find him at cafes or enjoying other casual social events. Many say that Checks has hosting in his blood because even as a guests he is always trying to bring people together and include everyone. He will always offer you a drink if drinks are available and even if you decline, you will at least get a water. He always wants to help and make you feel welcome.

Background:
Checks remembers little about his past, his memories begin at the time when he awoke and was given the name Checked. He believes he was once a human who died and re-woke as a Shinigami due to the fact he shares a love of community and a simple working life. He accepts his Shinigami duties but he feels they are not his true passions, so where as he does keep up with his work for survival, his true love lies in running and hosting a café.

Checked is a muscular man but not to the extreme, he needs to remain mobile enough to dodge attacks. He has icy white hair and beautiful light blue eyes. His skin is pale and he displays a blue checkered pattern across his shoulder and one side of his face. He does not know if this pattern is a tattoo or another type of marking. He usually dresses smart, even when in casual dress. Checks always carries a sliver death scythe which also brands the blue checked pattern.

Personality:
Yori us a very shut of and independent person who very much keeps to himself. He doesn't really socialize or talk to anyone other than those that he has taken a very long time to get to know. He has a ever growing list of fears and he is very easily startled. He never feels comfortable in new situations and with new people and making friends takes more than twice as long. For this reason he doesn't really have friends and those that he gets close to holds a very special place in his heart. Despite his fear, he absolutely loves to help and cheer people up when they are sad, even if he doesn't know them too well.
He is a very bright individual who enjoys working things and learning some-thing new and easily gets bored. Honestly he is a bit of a hidden genius however he hides it very well because he is very childish in nature. He has a sweet tooth and it is not uncommon for him to be snacking on cookies or anything else sugary.
Yori is extremely sweet and harmless, he wouldn't hurt a fly. You will never see him fighting or arguing with anyone and will always back down, even when knowing they are wrong. He will avoid any and all conflicts, even if not directed at him.

Background:
His father was a horrible and aggressive person, Yori's mother had to escape with both Yori and his little sister Hana and take them into hiding to keep everyone safe. This made his mother paranoid and this meant his mother was overprotective and kept both Yori and his sister in the house at all times. Being isolated for over six years did not help with their socialization skills. When Yori was only twelve years old, the house caught fire. Yori managed to save his sister however his mother sadly passed away in the fire. To this day, Yori still blames himself for her death and is unable to come to terms with what happened. Faced with the possibility of going into care and having to be separated from his sister, he made a rash decision to take her and run away to hide on the streets. Having no real understanding of the outside world, it was a struggle, but Yori was smart and was able to find ways to keep them alive. After discovering the café, he requested to work in return for himself and his sister to share a room at the inn.

Appearance:
Yori is fairly short for someone his age, he is also extremely thin due to not eating a lot. He has uncut scruffy black hair and brown eyes. Being a Neko, Yori has a pair of black cat ears with inner white fluffs and a long slender black tail with a white tip. He dresses in casual clothes; often a green hoodie or a white shirt in the summer, with a pair of blue denim jeans. He often likes to walk barefoot however when outside he will wear some partially destroyed blue convers shoes.

Personality: Hana is a curious and interested in everything and everyone. At times she may be shy, however usually she opens up very quickly. She loves to learn new things and this means she really enjoys school and helping out others where she can. Hana often finds making friends comes very naturally to her and she holds those people close to her, always wanting to be there for them when they are feeling down or needing a shoulder to cry on.
She is creative and Hana absolutely adores rabbits. Everything she owns is rabbit related and she really dreams of having a pet rabbit one day. It was her obsession that got her the nickname of Bunny.

Background:
Hana was very young when her mother took her and her brother away from him, she remembers very little about him however he was a very horrible man. Her brother has never told her the whole story about him to keep her safe and she understands that is likely for the best. When Hana was only six years old, their house caught fire. Hana was rescued by her brother however her mother sadly did not make it out alive. After the fire, Hana and her brother became homeless and she relied fully on her sibling to keep her alive. She has a huge respect for him because he did everything he could for her when times were hard, putting her needs before his own. This means she and her brother are extremely close.
Luck was on their side when Yori discovered Checkered Café and met the owner. He allowed them to rent a room in the inn, in return her brother would work. This meant that Hana was able to go back to school to get an education which she had always wanted.


Appearance: Hana is short for her age due to lack of food while growing, but this doesn't get her down. She has pinking, healthy, skin and pretty brown eyes. Her hair is short, wavy and unevenly cut but this still looks cute. She has brown hair and a pair of brown cat ears that stick out of her head, she often keeps them hidden in public with a hood. Hana has a long brown cat tail with a white tip, which she also keeps hidden under her clothes.

Extra: Always carries a plushy rabbit toy around with her.
