The boy shook his head, glancing between Coby and Luc then quickly away. "I'm not scared..." he huffed. He wasn't, at least not for himself, but maybe for Nico. He couldn't stand the thought of him locked up, or put to death. He made a small sound when Coby said they weren't there for the pirates. He seemed to be listening He might even have been convinced, maybe. However, then Coby ruined it by continuing to speak... "Nico doesn't need a bargaining chip," he huffed. "The only people I'm worth anything to are you and my sister. Though I'm kind of starting to kind of doubt it with you..." He was getting progressively more annoyed as Coby spoke. He shouldn't be, but he was...This wasn't how things should be going, but it was. "Like you'd know anything about him..." he growled. "You don't know what kind of feelings he has, or could have."

He didn't know what kind of internal debate Coby was having now. However, he could see the man was thinking. He now wondered if this is how Navii had felt...When he hurt Karter's leg, and brought them both in. He shook his head, looking up once more to see Coby forming fists. He snorted as Coby spoke once more. He shook his head, but just didn't seem to care anymore. This wasn't actually true, but he probably looked like it. "You're really saying, if hypothetically he had been a pirate, youd leave him. You married the man!" he said. "I don't believe you... you can't actually expect me to believe that. That if you fell in love with him, then found out he's a pirate, you'd just leave him."

The gray eyed black haired male felt warmth blossom at those first words. He then made a small sound. He didn't like Coby having to think of his past, of that woman...He then swallowed as Coby said he would leave him...hypothetically. Then he said it would be hard and not because he didn't love him. When Linkk continued to argue, he sighed. "Coby, unless we're going to drag him by force...let's just go. It isn't worth it to keep arguing," he said. It hurt to say that, but he said it.

True, he was three, but she'd always refer to him as pup. The pretty woman with gray eyes and Greek skin tone patted him a couple times. Her straight black hair, just past the shoulders, was pulled back. It was only partly so, and she'd actually done Georgia's hair. She was also wearing a pink blouse and dark red skirt today.

In his anxiety, Karter had completely forgot, despite the smell of the food sitting right in front of him. His cheeks tinted pink with embarrassment. "Y-Yeah, sorry!" For someone who was constantly hungry, he’d certainly forgotten pretty quick. After that, he turned his attention to the food, eating quickly, while it was still warm-ish.

"Then why would he show up here, out of the blue, almost three YEARS later, after next to no word to you, and no forewarning, unless he wanted something from you? You have to take things with a grain of salt in this world. Never blindly trust someone, especially a pirate." Then Coby stared at Linkk in silence for a moment, dumbfounded. "Starting to doubt it with me? Are you actually serious? Linkk, if I didn’t care, do you really think I would’ve taken the time to come after you, when Admirals have HEAPS of work on them at any given time? dammit, you’re FAMILY! I love you! If I didn't, I wouldn’t be here right now." Coby inclined his head, tucking his chin against his collarbone. Calm. An Admiral doesn’t lose his temper so easily. That’s not how this works.

"Yes, I did," Coby agreed. "Because he’s kind, he’s gentle, good, and noble. If I had at any point had any suspicions that he would turn his back on us, I wouldn’t have gone that far that fast. Justice comes above all else. That’s what protects this world. Personally I like the idea of the world being a safe place one day. I do expect you to believe me, because I know that there’s not another person out there who wouldn’t. Anyone who knows me knows I follow the code of justice, and that means doing whatever I need to in order to ensure the safety of the people. Sometimes that involves making sacrifices that seem impossible."

Coby couldn’t imagine it, turning his back on the man he had fallen in love with and had eventually gone and married. He hoped and prayed they’d never be put in that situation. He would do exactly what he said if need be, but it would put a hole in his heart that couldn’t be fixed. His blue eyes shifted briefly to Lucian. "Yes it is. He's one of us, I trained him, I brought him this far. I can’t just turn my back. That’d make me no better. People make mistakes. Sometimes they have a hard time accepting it. That’s all."

Law opened his eyes, slow, squinting against the light that came from the tiny window. They were still close enough to the surface for the sun’s reflection to come through the surface of the water. Maybe they needed to get down lower. He was still cuddled up against his furry friend, and didn’t move for a long time. This was his safe place, wrapped in Buck's arms, breathing in his scent, just loving his very presence. This was safety and comfort, a good spot in a world that seemed determined to tear him to pieces. He finally sat up though. How long had they slept for? "Buck…? You up?"

The boy snorted and said "They were on a supply run, Coby...I'm the one who was wandering near the harbor. That's the only reason he saw me," he said. "As if he'd somehow magically know I'd just so happen to be out there." Sure, he had the snail, and had contacted him from time to time. He hadnt told him he'd be out here today, though. He then shook his head. "Then why'd you say you were a fool for trusting so much? Like you shouldn't have trusted me..." He fell silent again, and Coby had an outburst, or something. He'd thought he meant something to them, but then Coby said that thing about trust. Like he was saying Linkk shouldn't have been trusted. That's what Linkk's brain made him think. He shook his head again, and let out a breath.

He then rolled his eyes, and said "It was hypothetical! If you were in this situation instead of me," he said. He then shook his head as the pink haired male continued to speak. He was trying to get him to see it his way. It seemed that just wouldn't work, though. "I lo- like Nico, a lot, and told him i wouldn't be away from him again. I'm...not going back," he said again. He knew Nico would probably never give up being a pirate. He wasn't going to give up his chance for love, if even possible.

The gray eyed black haired male made a small sound. He stated into the blue eyes, then shook his head because now was not the time. He then sighed and shook his head. He then listened as Linkk spoke once more. He made another small sound, and looked to Coby. He said, so only Coby could hear, "He...loves Nico. At least he thinks he does anyway. It's...just like Navii with Karter, when she sneaked off to be with him." Letting that sink in, he fell silent once more. He just didn't want Linkk to potentially say anything hurtful.

Karter's blush only worsened. "Heh…to say the least. I can’t talk without soundin' dumb when I have hiccups." Could eating too fast cause that? That was news to him. However, he slowed down regardless. "Have YOU eaten anythin' yet?" The last thing they needed was for her to be neglecting herself in her attempts to care for their crewmates.

Coby levelled his gaze, fixing his stare once again on Linkk. His heart hurt, chest constricted, it felt as if he couldn’t breathe all of a sudden. Linkk had never been this stubborn about anything before. I took him for granted and now…

"That’s not what I said. I have no regrets in placing my trust in you. I’m just saying…look at the situation for a sec, Linkk! This is the guy who infiltrated our base for information, USED you to get that information, and abandoned us on a whim at the first hint of potential trouble. Then all of a sudden he walks right back in here for you again? How do you know he’s not going to use you and dump you like he did before? I just…I don’t want you to end up doing something you’ll regret and getting hurt because of it. I’ve been there."

Coby closed his eyes. Losing Linkk was a blow he wasn’t sure he could handle. Not now. Not after all this time. "You have no idea. There’s some things that aren’t worth risking. Tell me this, Linkk. And think seriously, not just an in the moment thing, think long term." Coby held his gaze unwaveringly. "Is this something you’re willing to throw your life away for? Because the Marines are advancing, our numbers are increasing again, we're recovering from the battle at Wano. One day, the pirates of the Grand Line WILL be captured and dealt with, and…I need you to consider if it’s worth it to throw your life away on a chance, because as much as I hate it and wish otherwise, once you sail under a Jolly Roger…I can’t protect you anymore. I may even become your enemy one day."

Buck's velvety ears twitched at the sound of Law's voice, he'd been up for a while now, laying still and quiet so the sleepless doctor could finally get some rest. A part of him was relieved to hear the familiarly comforting sound of Law's groggy voice, but another part of him felt a tinge of disappointment, either because he dreaded his captain's inevitable departure or because he wished Law could get in just a little more rest, Buck wasn't sure. He sat up slowly along with Law, shifting to get properly upright without knocking the captain off of his lap. "Yeah, you okay?" He asked with a hint of suppressed worry in his voice, what if Law regretted this, what if he got angry with Buck?

The boy shook his head, and said "Then maybe he just wanted to see me...Again, not that he has some magical power to know where I am at all times." Nico did have a Devilfruit, but that wasn't it. He wondered if there even was one that gave someone an ability like that. He then shook his head a second time. Now was not the time to get caught up thinking that. He glanced away when Coby looked at him...Then he glanced back again, but wasn't fully looking at him. He made a small sound, but forced it back. Well, he tried to; it didn't really work, but at this point he didn't care. He glanced away again, looking to Nico. Nico hadn't abandoned him...he'd left because he had to. "Yeah, he came in to get information, but then he became friends with me. He was...he is my friend! He didn't abandon us, he left because he probably thought someone would have him executed...He used his Devilfruit, which would have been recognized. We were there...I could see out the windows. You fought him at our bakery, didn't you? He's a pirate who infiltrated a marine base, and then had to use his power. What did you think he was going to think? He'd obviously think he'd get executed, or at least locked away, and who wants that? He left so he wouldn't potentially die!"

He then took a breath, trying to get himself to calm down after that. He wouldn't believe for a second that it was abandonment. Not when they'd kept in touch, though it wasn't like every single day. It was still something, not that Coby would know about it. He'd done what Nico had told him to. He'd kept the snail hidden, and only called when he knew no one was around, or in places no one else was at. He shook his head a couple times. "You were going to help my sister...Well, you were going to try, but they escaped anyway. Are you saying you wouldn't do the same for me? Because talking to someone to try and keep me from being executed would be protecting me." Not that that answered the question, but it should have already been answered by how stubborn he was being.

He sighed, then (perhaps stupidly) activated his Devilfruit. He turned into fox form, not able to do hybrid form yet. He was training his Devilfruit, so maybe one day. He wasn't attacking anyone, but didn't know if they'd see him as a threat. Still, he approached the boy, and stared up at him.

The captain had to take a moment to wake up properly and actually register Buck's words. He heard his voice, but the words took an extra few seconds to settle in his mind. Law's lips curved upwards, ever so faint. "Don’t worry so much, you spend so much of your time worrying if I’m okay. Don’t you have anything else to do with your time?" Law's tone made it clear he wasn’t annoyed with the Mink, however. He made sure of that. The last thing he needed was for Buck to get the wrong impression, and Law knew his type of joke could come off as dry or sometimes downright offensive if read into the wrong way.

Dry amusement flickered across Karter's face in the form of a glimmer in his eye and a half suppressed smile. "Here you are, tellin' me to eat before it gets cold, and haven’t even bothered to make a plate for yourself. You gotta take care not to neglect yourself, y'know." Self neglect was something Karter would never understand. For as long as he could remember, he’d done everything he could for himself, prioritizing his own well-being over everyone else's and any other goal.

"He had no proof anything would’ve happened. He knew he’d been found out, and he ran. He tricked, lied, cheated, betrayed. I trust him about as far as I can throw him, and that scares me for your sake." Coby thought about it. Fought him outside the bakery. That was a trick question of some sort. "Yes and no. I never intended to fight him, but he was on the opposing side. I never launched a direct attack, he was the one who attacked me and Lucian." That day was a long time ago. However, he hadn't done so and now he looked at his mentor, possibly soon to be ex mentor. He shook his head, because he'd already made up his mind. "Then...you can't help me," he said, and turned away. "I'm not going back," he said, though deep down was afraid...It wouldn't stop him though, but what they couldn't see were his tears, since he'd turned away.

The boy made a small sound, forcing himself to hold it in. They couldn't see his shoulders shaking...so he didn't allow it. But there were silent tears coming down his face now. He shook his head a couple times, and swallowed around a lump. Holding it in really wasn't good...or at least didn't feel good. He nearly jumped when the pink haired male spoke. He was listening, but didn't turn around yet. He swiped at his eyes, face, trying to be rid of the tears. He swallowed harder when the pink haired one then hugged him. He shuddered a bit, still holding it in, then nodded. "I...I will keep myself alive," he said to Coby. He then said "I...I know you care about me," and took another shuddering breath then let it out, coughing a bit.
