Seeing things to completion borders on an ethical obligation for Kassandra. Tasks aren’t simply abandoned
because they’ve become difficult or boring -– she will take them up when they are the right thing to do, and
they will be finished so long as they remain the right thing to do. A strong will makes this dedication possible,
and Kassandra doesn’t give up her beliefs because of simple opposition. She defends her ideas and principles
relentlessly and must be proven clearly and conclusively wrong for her stance to budge. She trusts facts far
more than abstract ideas or opinions. Straightforward statements and information is king, and Kassandra will
return the honesty (whether it’s wanted or not). She works to exemplify truthfulness and reliability, consider
ing stability and security very important. When she says she’ll do something, she keeps her word. Kassandra
often puts pressure on herself to right every wrong that she encounters. But no matter how hard she may stri
ve, it just isn’t realistic for her to solve all of the world’s problems. If she isn’t careful, she can spread herself
too thin – and be left unable to help anyone. Compassion is among her greatest strengths. But she has a tend
ency to take on other people’s problems as her own –- a habit that can leave her emotionally and physically
exhausted.
Growing up unable to use magic in a world ruled by mages, Kassandra fought tooth and nail to carve herself
a place within the magocracy. She was a squire for the majority of her late childhood and teenage years,
apprenticed to a knight that spent his days hunting monsters and criminals. One such monster was Sawtooth,
a rabid wolf the size of a bear haunting the wilds. When they found it, they discovered the creature was no
normal wolf. Instead, it was a werewolf gone feral. Kassandra delivered the final blow against the beast dur
ing the fight, but not before it took a bite out of her upper arm. The wound was treatable, but a question
remained: did the curse of lycanthropy pass to her? She found out a month later when she was forcibly trans
formed during a full moon. Luckily, she and her mentor had taken precautions to keep her from rampaging in
the streets. Over time, Kassandra has learned to somewhat keep her bestial side in check. She has even lear
ned to transform at will, although keeping her mind intact during these shifts is a struggle.
Kassandra was knighted when she turned 25, and acted as her mentor’s second-in-command until he died in
his home mysteriously a few weeks before the tremors started. His rank and command were suddenly and
unceremoniously dropped in her lap, as was the responsibility of leading an expedition into the void of stars
to find what’s causing the tremors – and hopefully live to tell about it.
