Northstar had not found the deputy she expected. Instead, her pleasant walk was interrupted by a large tom with a mess of tangled brown fur. He was crude and impudent, the exact opposite of a graceful and noble knight that she wanted for her clan. She tried to dismiss him, but he followed her, telling her about his adventures and journey and finally volunteered to join her, completely ignoring the fact that the whole time she was trying to get away from him.
“I can teach you anything you want, even things beyond your wildest dreams.” As he said that he leaned in closer to Northstar and she instinctively leaned back with a grimace of disgust on her face. “No, thank-you”, she responded firmly. “There is nothing I need to learn and definitely not from the likes of you.” She stood up and stepped back, swooshing her tail with grace befitting royalty. “Someone like you couldn’t possibly have to offer anything I’d be interested in.” The stranger didn’t seem discouraged at all. He was still smiling and when he spoke his voice still had a spark of charm and trickery it had from the start of their conversation. “Well then, if not you, then maybe your kits?” “I do not have any”, she replied, looking at him with seriousness in her eyes. A smug smirk appeared on Thornblaze’s face. “Maybe it’s time to get some?” He wiggled his eyebrows at her. “Ew. No. Gross.” For the first time Northstar lost some of her calm and composure. She didn’t want to appear too rude, as that didn't befit a queen, but she still moved a little further away. “Certainly not”, she added, just to make her point perfectly clear. To her surprise, he laughed. “Don’t worry, doll, I was just kidding. Unless…? But no, really, I was kidding. However, I am serious when I say that I’m an excellent mentor for kits. There will be some in your clan sooner or later.”
Thornblaze stood up from his spot on the ground and slowly walked towards the female. His large, fluffy paws made deep footsteps in the snow, still falling from the sky and forming larger and larger piles all around them. “You have to start thinking about the future if you want to run a proper clan.” That piqued her interest. She was watching his with a mixture of scorn and dislike on her face, but after his words that gave way to curiosity and her eyes sparkled. “What do you know about the future?”, she asked and he could hear from the tone of her voice that the conversation was finally falling in his favour. “I know a lot. As I told you, I would make a great mentor. I have experience from the past and I can share it with the young generations to prepare them for the days to come.” He stopped circling her and sat right up in front of her with a wide grin on his face. He was taller than her and seemed to enjoy looking down on her almost as much as she hated being looked down upon.
“Fine. I will give you a chance to join my clan, but know, that I accept only the greatest of warriors. You will have to prove yourself on the field and in battle. If you’re worthy - maybe one day you’ll even earn the position of a mentor.” He groaned and sighed, but after a moment of contemplating nodded his head. “Alright”, he said without much enthusiasm. “I guess I can do some work. Yeesh.” Northstar lifted her chin up with a satisfied smile. “Very well. Follow me. I’ll show you the territory so you can start patrolling.”

Verdant Falls

The cats of Verdant Falls live in a dense coniferous forest. They live at the base of an enormous mountain range, and their territory is streaked with rivers and waterfalls fed by the mountain snow. The territory is rich in other wildlife- both predators and prey.

They make their dens around a central waterfall, although unlike most clans, their dens typically only house one or two cats. They’re more like a small town than a typical warrior clan.

Behind the waterfall is a large cave where The Council meets.

Cats:
The cats of Verdant Falls are typically short-furred, with dark and patterned coats. Tabbies are very common.

They are very community-oriented, and typically believe that it is important to commit fully to ones role within the group. They are fairly accepting of outsiders, but tend to look down on cats that haven’t found where they fit in yet.

They do not believe in Starclan. They place a spiritual significance on nature as a whole, believing that the forest has a will of its own, as does each aspect of the natural world around them. They believe in reincarnation, and that when a cat dies, their soul wanders the world for a time before choosing what to be reborn as.

Many cats of Verdant Falls hold to small superstitions and rituals, such as arranging stones for good luck.

Ranks:
The Council- Verdant Falls is ruled by The Council. Each role has an associated councilor, voted on by its members. The councilor retains their position until they die or retire.

Each councilor handles the affairs of their role, and The Council meets daily to discuss matters pertaining to the group as a whole. They are expected to try and work through disagreements, but if a consensus cannot be reached, the councilor representing the enforcers is allowed to make the final decision.

-Adult Ranks-

Enforcers- These cats are responsible for maintaining peace within the group. Typically, they gather news and deliver it to their councilor, though they are also tasked with capturing and punishing troublemakers if need be.
Hunters- As the name suggests, these are the cats responsible for finding food for the rest of the group.
Protectors- These cats are tasked with protecting the group from outside threats. They battle predators, and warn of possible dangers.
Healers- These cats treat the sick and injured, and provide comfort and support to those that need it.
Scholars- These cats are tasked with preserving the knowledge of Verdant Falls. They keep the history, and know not just the territory itself, but much of that which surrounds it. Their most important job is to train students in the basics of life as a cat of Verdant Falls.
Seers- The spiritual guides of the clan. They are tasked with reading the signals of the forest, seeing signs and predicting things to come. Some are even blessed with visions, allowing them to learn of events that are far away in either distance or time.
-Youth Ranks-
Apprentice- Young cats who have started studying for a specific role. In order to graduate from this status, the trainee must be accepted by the councilor that represents that role.
Student- Once a kit is no longer nursing, they take on this role. They receive instruction from the Scholars on the history and rules of Verdant Falls, as well as basic survival skills. They are introduced to the basics of each role, and eventually choose which one to study in more depth.
Kits- The youngest members of the group. They are cared for by their parents until they are old enough to begin training.

Mechanically, The Council are leaders, though they receive no extra lives. Enforcers, Hunters, and Protectors are warriors. Healers, Scholars, and Seers are medicine cats. Apprentices... are the same. Students and Kits are both kits.

The warm sun was warming the she-cat's fur, the rays making intricate patterns in the grass as the three branches filtered them into shadows. Sorrelstar, the name still feeling weird on her mind after being Sorrelbreeze for so long, watched her small clan from afar. She was intrigued by the cats that had found her, especially Fireblaze and the haunted look in his eyes. She could tell he had suffered a great loss, though the tom was still uninterested in opening up to her. The others often gave him a wide berth, not wanting to remind him of his loss, Sorrelstar presumed. Even Degupaw, deciding to take on the apprentice's training herself to get back into the way of clans, had secrets behind her easy smile. There was a darkness in her eyes that Sorrelstar wanted to know about, but one she thought she would never get the chance to understand.

It was a great day for training, at least, though Sorrelstar felt like she wanted the sun to warm her fur for the whole day. But she wasn't by herself anymore, and she had work to do to support her clan. An apprentice to train. She felt excited at the prospect, even - hopeful for something to look forward to after so many moons of loneliness and disappointment. A quick stretch, and Sorrelstar meandered towards the camp, getting closer to the bustle of her small clan.

Chivewhisker was out and about, sorting their newly acquired herbs alongside the quiet help of Rustgaze. Sorrelstar could tell the two were close as friends, spending a lot of their free time together in quiet laughter. A smile wasn't often gotten out of Chivewhisker, from what Sorrelstar had seen in the moon of knowing the medicine cat - it was Rustgaze that would get one out of them more than anything else. She gave the healer a nod, a friendly greeting coming her way in return. Rustgaze greeted the leader in a quiet voice as well, before doing a double take, remembering something she wanted to tell Sorrelstar.

"Hey, can you wait up a moment?" The warrior asked, her eyes alert and her ears twitching, something on her mind. Sorrelstar nodded, giving the warrior a friendly smile and a nod for her to speak after curling her tail over her paws, sitting for a quick moment so that she could give Rustgaze her full attention. "I think I scented some cats near one of our borders - near the Twoleg farm, but the scent wasn't of barn cats. I think they've been watching us."

Sorrelstar nodded, her head tilting slightly. "Interesting," she mused, furrowing her eyebrows slightly. "Thank you, Rustgaze. I'm going to take Degupaw to train over that direction, and I'll see if the scent is strong. I doubt they are unfriendly, just curious." Rustgaze seemed to agree, giving the leader a respectful dip of her head before turning back to Chivewhisker, who had been watching curiously.

Degupaw was nearby, and Sorrelstar briefly explained what they were going to do for training before leading the way out of the camp. She put her tail in front of the young apprentice before getting too far, wanting Degupaw to put her skills to the test. "What do you scent here?" She asked, watching the young cat scent the air tentatively, her eyes widening and narrowing at the different smells.

"Stale Twoleg smell from long ago," Degupaw mused, her eyes gaining a faraway look as she deciphered what was in her nose. "Mouse, I remember that from our last training session, but it isn't close... and... cats?" She questioned herself, blinking in confusion. "I don't recognize the smell though."

Nodding, Sorrelstar gave the young cat encouraging nudge with a paw. "You're right! We're gonna investigate the scent. I'll teach you how some stealth skills along the way."

Sorrelstar and Degupaw approached the cats from a distance, Degupaw being the one to spot the silhouettes of the strangers before Sorrelstar could even make out what she was seeing, thinking the shapes could have been rocks. The cats seemed to be arguing amongst themselves, at least from what Sorrelstar could tell of their body language. No conversation sounds drifted their way.

"Stay low, and let the grass and wheat cover your fur. If we are quiet enough, we should be able to get close enough to hear what they're saying without being spotted. Remember, we don't want to scare them." Sorrelstar led the way, keeping a close eye on her apprentice beside her. These cats didn't seem aggressive, but rather lost. She would reveal herself when the pair got closer, she had decided, using the moment to give Degupaw real training.

It didn't take long for the ShiningClan cats to reach the sounds of conversation, the light breeze bringing the cat's voices towards Sorrelstar and Degupaw."...we would never trespass on another clan's territory. I'd rather take our chances with the barn cats again, to be honest with you. Having a clan on our bad side is not a good look, especially if we're trying to join one at some point." A quick pause in the conversation. "That is our goal, right?" The cat was quieter this time, fear in their voice.

A low sigh followed the question, and Sorrelstar knew that sigh. It was one she uttered many times, when she was defeated and tired and just wanted to be done. To sleep and curl up in a ball for a few days, letting the forest sounds cocoon her in a lullaby. "We can't be that hopeful, Halfsight. Who would want ex clan cats anymore? Many clans are distrustful, and I can't blame them. Especially around here, if those barn cats say anything about the hostility of cats in this area." There was a bristle to this cat's voice, a harshness and bitterness regarding the unfairness of the world.

"Fair," the cat named Halfsight answered, giving his own sigh. "We do need food though, especially Yewbranch."

"I'm fine," a weak voice answered, the quality of a wince present in their statement. "It's just a scratch." Injured, hungry, tired... Sorrelstar knew this would be the opportune time to invite the cats to at least come back to her camp. And her kindness would pay off, as kindness often does - ShiningClan was growing rapidly, gaining another small group of cats.

crab and redfield sat with their tails intertwined. the tom licked his mate's shoulder.
"i can't wait to finally start a family with you, my love." crab purred. it had been a long journey together in order to find a suitable home for themselves and their future kits. crab had been a loner, wandering the streets of a nearby town, when she met redfield. he was sitting on a tall fence near the edge of a twoleg house. he looked seriously bored, so she offered a walk. redfield never went back to that yard.
"we're safe here," redfield assured her "we'll be alright now." the sound of a cat clearing his throat interrupted the two cats' session. a grey tom, boulder, stood there with his chest puffed out.
"crab," he said sturdily, though his eyes darted around nervously "can you come with me?" crab opened her mouth to reply, but redfield cut in.
"what for?" he grumbled, unconsciously scooting closer to her side.
"none of your concern." boulder scoffed "come on, crab." redfield got to his paws.
"it is my concern." he meowed, tilting his head. "what do you want with my mate?"
"red-" crab started, but boulder shakily laughed.
"your mate?" he smirked "i don't remember going to your bonding ceremony." redfield peeled his lips back, baring his teeth. he swiped his paw across boulder's face, punching him in the jaw.
"careful what you say to me, fleabag." he hissed.
"redfield!" crab hissed, rubbing against his shoulder "leave him alone." her eyes turned to boulder "what do you want, boulder?"
"y-you have to go on patrol." he murmured, rubbing his jaw. "see? it doesn't concern you, redfield." crab shook her head and walked closer to boulder, but not before licking redfield's cheek.
"i'll see you later. try not to get into any trouble." she whispered into his ear. he just grunted. the two cats left.

boulder sat close to sitta. he was opening and closing his jaw in a testing manor.
"just ignore that punching mousebrain, boulder." sitta scoffed "he obviously needs beating up others to make himself feel better."
"all i wanted was to tell crab she was needed." he sniffled, tears pricking at his eyes as a certain jaw motion made a flash of pain radiate up his muzzle.
"toms here are so dense." she huffed, shaking her head. boulder didn't respond.

whimsicott officially moves to the "nursery" - basically she is taken off of patrols at this time as to not stress herself or the kits out from trying to hunt or potentially run into predators, and is to remain close to the healer zarude at all times, in case of something unexpected occurring with the pregnancy. she accompanies the white tom as he searches for herbs, and he slows his pace so that she can keep up as she gains more weight from the kits and is less agile/swift.

aggron is found by dialga's hunting patrol, specifically running nearly headfirst into hot-tempered linoone, who practically goes off on the grey tom for scaring away the mouse he was stalking. dialga quickly intervenes, with the deputy shaymin escorting the fiery linoone away from the rest of the group to calm him down, as dialga apologizes to aggron about the clan's newer member. dialga and aggron get to talking, and as dialga learns that aggron is a former clan cat whose old clan disbanded, he is offered a place within pocketclan.

on the same day, lycanroc was found by palkia's hunting patrol. while it wasn't the purpose of their patrol to gather new members (obviously, being a hunting not a border patrol), palkia was more than willing to start up conversation with the orange tabby molly. after finding out that her previous clan had disbanded, palkia cheerfully offered her a place among the pocketclan ranks, which she accepted without much thought. upon returning to gather with the rest of the camp, her eyes met with aggron, and while both cats recognized each other from their previous pyreclan, they had never been friends or really even that close.
