@nocturnes, your best bet is probably to find breeders whose programs you like and discuss with them yourself as to what you can offer a dog. If they don't think their breed or specific lines are a good fit, they'll tell you and may be able to help you find something that does fit better!

I am trucking Thora and her three daughters to a show next Saturday! I'm excited. The babies are making their conformation debut and fingers all crossed that Thora can take the points for her second major towards her championship. I've never had so many dogs to handle at a show before so it will be an adventure for sure hahah. I'll have one rough collie (sadly was returned to me after her owner unexpectedly fell ill) and the three smooth collies. The stud dog's owner will be at the show and will hopefully come meet the puppies as well :) And my friend who owns one of their brothers will be showing with us. It should be a fun but hectic day. I have only done one show since late 2019, and this will be my first all breed show (instead of a specialty show) since... gosh, maybe early 2019 or late 2018? I am hoping to dive back in there over the next few months to try to get Thora's championship and some practice with the puppies before collie nationals in March!

I don't know what to do with him. Either he's getting back at me for something or he's getting attention. Maybe who has faced a similar problem advise what to do.

it's unlikely he's "getting back at you", as dogs don't do things like that out of spite. To me, it sounds like Sam might be bored. What does he do during the day? He might benefit from something enriching that works his brain, like a kong, lickimat, or dog puzzle. Even hiding treats around the house and letting him find them.

Also thanks guys for your advice <33 Good luck with your show fairytale. !! Hoping you and Thora and your other collies all get placed!

I'd really like to get into proper Schutzhund, as there's no French Ring where I live, and I do obedience with my current rescue pig dog. I want a dog that can chill and has an off switch but one that is up to do obedience and tracking on the weekends, if that makes sense? I'm not sure I'm ready for a dog that needs constant attention 12 hours a day but I'm ready to put in the training.

I think a higher drive pet/show line dog might fit your needs pretty well! I agree with the other suggestion; getting hands on (so to say) with breeders and checking out their specific lines and talking to them about your needs is the best way to go. (: Not all showline/pet line dogs are super chill - most would still benefit from doing some fun sport or activity.

Agreed with the sentiment that dogs don't do things to "get back at" someone. How old is Sam? Is he still teething? Like in human babies, when dogs are teething it's very painful and they have the urge to chew, chew, chew. Or maybe he fell into that habit as a puppy and never learned what's appropriate to chew vs what isn't. Redirect him when he grabs something you don't want him chewing with something that IS okay to chew on. If you don't have toys or chews for him, invest in some pronto. Some dogs just like to chew, and we shouldn't take that away from them - just make sure they're chewing on the right thing!

Also if you do invest in a lickimat please supervise him the entire time he uses it. I've seen too many dogs end up with emergency surgery because they're left alone with them and eat the silicone mat itself. My own puppy can't be trusted with them because she'll do it. She's... something else.

Zoe is getting so big! She’s so playful and always ready to learn, which is exactly the kind of puppy I was looking for 🥰

pack update ! i feel like i should be more active here HAHA.

kenai is doing so well. he’s almost 3! still working as a service dog, i do need to touch up on his guide tasks! But this summer he earned his Dock Senior title ! So proud of him! he started off jumping into junior and gradually got better with extremely minimal practice so im happy with the title. he had a LOT of fun this summer too, im really happy that i found *his* sport.

my border collie puppy ended up not fitting for my household :( big sad about that but it’s life and happens sometimes. her breeder was super supportive and took her back and placed her in a fitting home.

all hope for my first sport dog wasn’t lost though ! i ended up getting an 11 month old bearded border collie(purebred she is just wired haired!) on a co own; her name is Saoirse. she is turning out to be AMAZING !! i really should’ve gone with an older dog first lol. i had her on a two week trial but she ended up being perfect and staying. :))
but we have started rally(just training for this one), dock diving, and agility! i am also going to do free style disc with her, I’ve taught her various tricks for it already and she’s a spaz for the frisbee haha. she is a little super star. we are also trying for her CGC and TKN in a couple days as well. wish us luck !

im also super happy with how kenai took to saoirse! when i brought home the puppy he did not like her and he does like puppies so it was kinda sad and stressing, i feel like it wasn’t meant to be. because when i brought saoirse home he loved her and they’ve been best friends since the first day LOL.
they’ve been the cutest duo ever !

Hey guys! This is my first post on this thread! I was wondering if any of ya’ll have weimaraners! I’m currently looking into getting one and would love to see your’s and some info on how they are. I’m doing so much research at the moment on them. If they dock dive or are any sport similar, it’s a plus!

Also doing this because I’m open to hearing. :)

Have you had dogs before? What breeds?: I’ve had one dog of my own before! She was a Siberian husky. I lived with my sister for awhile, she owns 2 GSDs and a Doberman. Absolutely LOVE them.

Are there any breeds that have already caught your eye? If so, why?: Weimaraners, labs, and standard poodles. I love sporty dogs, I love their size, and I absolutely adore the weimaraners due to their confirmation and their personalities.

How much time a day do you have to devote to training your dog?: I can give a dog at LEAST 5 hours each day, if not, more.

What kind of grooming needs are you prepared to handle?: I don’t think I’d like to own another double coated dog, I can definitely groom them but I’d like something easier!

What kind of energy level are you looking for?: Not as high as a Mal, but definitely needs to have a drive.

What do you plan on doing with your dog?: Service prospect and dock diving!

What size dog are you wanting?: Medium to large

What age dog are you looking for?: I’d like to start from pup.

What kind of livestyle do you live?: I’d say moderate. Dogs get me more active and wanting to exercise more. One of my hobbies is hiking, I’d hike more if I had a dog.

“It’s important that my dog....: Has drive and is ready for anything (with training, of course).

What do you want the dog for?: Service.

Do you have other animals? If so, what do you have?: I’ll be going back to my sister’s, she has her three dogs. :)

Standard Poodle would definitely fit everything outside you wanting easier grooming needs. A field bred lab with a medium drive might work, I’ve heard bench lines are a bit too low drive for it. The “fab four” are definitely breeds I would look into lifestyle wise for service work but there are other good breeds too. I don’t have any knowledge of weims and their ability and temperament to do service work but i would try reaching out to the breed club in your state for breeders that at the bare minimum title, OFA, health test, and temperament test puppies.

As a weimaraner fanatic, I wouldn't recommend them for service work. The rest of what you want to do with one sounds great and like you'd be an awesome fit, but they're not service breeds for a reason. Weims, like all bird dogs, are absolutely insane. I say that in the best way possible as both of my heartbreeds are bird dogs, lol. High drive, high energy, needs an outlet and needs one now. They're awesome family dogs as long as they have that outlet. With the high drive I don't think they'd do well with public access at all.

Your best options for what you're looking for is a lab or standard poodle.
