R.I.P Misty You are much loved and greatly missed.
22nd February 2002 - 9th November 2021.

A vet nurse had a room ready, but found it was taken. Then they were running late so we had to wait, Misty decided to give her opinion on waiting and pooped on the floor. Otherwise she was purring, she was calm.
It was heart breaking, she was so fragile they couldn't do it intravenously, they had to sedate her... Warning this next part is hard to hear once she was sedated they gave her an injection to her heart, so I couldn't be with her in her final moments.

She was settled in a beautiful box with the fluffy plush cover from her cushion. I took a moment when she was brought back to me, then took her home, and settled her in her resting place.

Goodbye baby girl :(

Aw I’m so sorry! I last my boy a month ago and I know how hard it is. If you need anything feel free to message me. ❤️

@.autumnal
that definitely sounds like the poor thing had a seizure. it is normal for them to be disoriented after them. i am glad he's perking up more today! he may be sleeping on the floor because it's cooler, he may be hot. you can always try laying out an ice pack for him, or frozen veggies and see if he wants to lay against it. the seizure may of been fever induced if he still has a fever.
the vet will probably want to do some blood work and a complete physical and neurological examination for him. it'll just be looking for anything abnormal testing for any kind of disease, disorder, what might cause seizures etc. your kitties will be in my thoughts! i hope everything works out well and both of them end up okay <3

@Eyulf
i'm so sorry for your loss. it's never easy to lose a loved one. she lived a long, happy, and healthy life. she knows how much you loved and love her still.
i hope you feel better soon <3

i'm going to admit this seems weird to me that an emergency vet wouldn't give piority , when my dog had one 2 weeks ago my vet went on high alert untill he got there (incase he was still having a seizure when my dad go to them, lucky he wasn't)

as Yibeullin said it will likley be bloodwork for him as this is what they wanted to do for my dog if he has another ( tho i belive i know what set his off ) . If you start seeing the warning signs again if you can make sure hes in a place that if he falls over he wont get hurt.

As someone with veterinary experience and now a vet tech student, the pandemic has hit vet clinics hard.

Clinics are vastly understaffed and overworked after the pet adoption explosion during lockdown. People are leaving due to burn out and abusive clients. Most clinics in my area aren't taking new clients and the ones that are it's a 2 week wait for an appointment. Emergency clinics are majorly backed up. I waited 3 hours to be seen and that's very lucky. They triage the best they can but it's pretty dire out there for vet clinics.

Emergencies happen but if you even smell that something is wrong I'd def make an appointment and just cancel later rather than wait. And not directed at anyone I promise but please be patient with your vet staff. They love your animals and want to help you and are doing the best they can.

I went to two different vets with my cat who passed last month, and Neither told me what my boy even had. They said all his blood work came back normal. They both said nothing was wrong. Clearly there was and I tried to have them check for even cancer somehow, willing to pay whatever amount, they refused because he was too old. There was a 20 year old cat the saw before me that had extensive tests, but my 12 year old cat was too old? I have no idea to this day what he had. The way he acted on his last day though, wasn’t good. He acted like he didn’t know who I was, he’d growl at me, he forgot how to swallow, it’s like his memory out of nowhere just disappeared. I’m wondering if he had some sort of cat version of Alzheimer’s, is that a thing and how common is it for a 12 year old cat to get such a thing? I’m not bashing on y’all I’m just trying to make sense of how fast he deteriorated with img less then a week of his last vet visit… I just don’t understand and I wanna know what my boy passed from…

oh gee thats bad , i was aware of the vet shortage (my local vet isnt open weekends anymore but another vet has my guys records so we just go to them) but i thought it was just where i lived due to travel restrictions. i think the longest i waited in an emergency vet was 30 mins with my pup a few months ago. but thats rare even pre-pandemic (wich had hour wait times even with appointments)

while on the topic of vets, one of the vets who loved houdini (there was few) was told about his passing and has sent my family a 'sorry for your loss' card, im just thankfull the message got passed to her, she moved clinics about a year ago but before that she was houdinis go to vet and put alot of effort into finding out how to treat his rare condishion and tryed what she could to find afordable treatments

now i'm thinking i might book my girls specialist apointment soon, she sees one yearly for her ears as she has UV damage to her ears and we just get them looked over for any signs of it geting worse (they looked good in jan of this year)

i feel sort of like i was robbed of a proper examination then, because when we went in today they did none of that. i mean she looked him over, listened to his heart and lungs, felt around his body for any abnormalities, checked his gums, ears, eyes, nose, and bum area, but that was it. no blood work, and no sort of neurological exam. she gave him some medicine for deworming, because she noticed a worm on his bum, and some supplements for his stomach called FortiFlora, and then sent us on our way. she said to come back if he has another one and we can discuss putting him on some sort of medicine then, but for right now, there really wasn't anything else she could do because he seems completely normal and healthy. he seems to be feeling better now, he's sleeping up in my computer chair at the moment rather than on the floor, so hopefully that means he no longer has a fever, if that's indeed what caused him to seek out the floor. thank you for keeping them in your thoughts! <3

it seemed weird to me too, but i guess there were others with more serious needs than ours. i'm definitely going to take him back in and ask for bloodwork to be done because both of you mentioned that it should of been done, so thank you! don't worry, i've been watching him like a hawk, if anything happens, i'll be right there beside him. thank you! =)

I just woke up, I'm already crying that it's my first day without my beautiful girl Misty.

I imagine this won't be the only morning I feel like this, there'll be many raw moments to come.

Hiya, new here! I have a question to ask about puzzle toys for cats.
I have a 6 month old kitten, Lucifer (Luce), who is quite nervous around new things and noises so he doesn't go outside often or for very long. He plays with my older cat and the basic toys he has, but I worry that he gets bored and isn't getting enough mental stimulation. He's very dexterous with his paws and uses them all the time.
So I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions for puzzle toys or puzzle feeders (he's very food driven) that will encourage him to use his brain and keep him entertained. Preferably ones that will last and that both he and my other cat could potentially interactive with (though she's more into hunting-style toys and may not be interested in puzzle toys, so it's not a must).

when i had a cat who liked them (current adult cats don't understand more then the basic feed toys) i just used my dogs ones
just try to find the easyer dog ones . i have two like This , i found they are good to start with as they are easy. Houdini used a harder one where he had to push it around a bit to get it but i cant find it online. i know they make cat puzzle toys now as well but i have yet to try any (i think my mum might be geting one for her maine coon)

my calico likes thewobblers . and i would guess if the cat likes playing with balls a puzzle ball might work as well. i would stay away from snuffle matts made for dogs, i have seen cat ones but they are not as common

if you want to give him 'wet' food (as a treat or meal) i recomend lickmats! i started using them for my pup but my mums cat showed interest and i use it to groom her (she use to hate it but puts up with it if shes got the lick matt)

i'v seen my shelter use tissue boxes with food inside as well as egg cartons.

-----
in other news, i caved and adopted a new kitten
i wanted his sister but she got adopted just before i got to the shelter

sooo i took Digby, hes a silver-cream tabby (i belive he is a true tabby as his mother was a silver dilute torbi) at the shelter he was the most people friendley (im suprised he went last tbh) very friendly but still geting use to the dogs , he has the run of the lounge and has been meeting the dogs a small bit. he gets to see the rest of the house when the dogs are in my room with me, the calmer of the dogs has been allowed to roam with him but we are taking it slow
