xa first-generation american of argentinian descent,
gage was held to the same standards that his moth-
er was when she was a child. though married, his p
arents were never together very often as he grew,
leading him to be raised primarily by his mother an
d grandparents. the small family had moved out of
argentina to california together, where his mother
met and married his father. as a result of his father'
s absence, gage was the one who had his responsib-
ilities put on his back. he would handle a wide ran-
ge of communicating and handling issues that his m
other faced until she was fully fluent in english. he
hardly had the time for socialization until his teens.
then came hours of fun that he, at one time, could
only have dreamed of. the boys that made up their
tight little friend-group distracted him from the w-
orsening state of his home life. his father now fully
out of the picture, his mother was forced to find a
job for herself while her own mother cared for the
remaining children. in the meantime, gage's grand-
father fell ill, forcing gage to drop out of college e
arly and find work as well in order to help pay off
one hospital bill after another. he yearns for the g-
ood old days, but reminds himself that someone n-
eeds to be the voice of reason in all the chaos.
