ㅤㅤit was a dark and gloomy night. rain pitter-pattered on either side of marauder and his owner, jax, where they
ㅤㅤhuddled under the bridge, the cold sinking in and shivers wracking their bodies. they had been on the street
ㅤㅤfor almost two months now and every day got closer to the last.

ㅤㅤthe weather was dropping as winter approached, the storms heavier, forcing the two to take sanctuary under
ㅤㅤany shelter they could find for the night. jax's spirit was strong and yet, as time passed, it became more and
ㅤㅤmore apparant to marauder that his owner was slowly giving up, both physically and mentally. emaciated,
ㅤㅤlimping, breaking into tears and having episodes where his owner just couldn't move.. through it all, marauder
ㅤㅤstuck to his owner's side and watched over him. he would be there through thick and thin and they would get
ㅤㅤthrough this.

ㅤㅤhe refused to give up.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤpresent
ㅤㅤit was around midnight and soon, they would be heading to the local bar. they had to move around a lot, jumping
ㅤㅤfrom city to city, elsewise people would catch on to what they were doing. it was a mean business and any day
ㅤㅤcould end with casualties.

ㅤㅤmarauder shuffled over to the bathroom door and let out a low whine, wondering what was taking his owner so long
ㅤㅤto come out. he had an internal clock and right now it was flashing over and over again; go, now! if they didn't
ㅤㅤleave soon, they wouldn't get to scope the bar out before the patrons arrived.

ㅤㅤ"i'll be out in a second, boy! quit your whining." his owner shouted out to him, causing the canine to let out a small
ㅤㅤhuff before laying down at the door. before long he would have to drag his owner out.

ㅤㅤafter an impatiently waited 30 minutes, jax finally came out and marauder gave him a blank stare, as if to say,
ㅤㅤwhat took so long?!

ㅤㅤrolling his eyes at the silly dog, jax called him to heel and set out to their destination.

ㅤㅤmarauder kept slightly behind his owners legs as they walked into the bar, his eyes roving around to find a few
ㅤㅤpeople spread out. jax sent him a look and he obeyed the silent command, slipping into the shadows that filled
ㅤㅤa back corner near one of the booths.

ㅤㅤhe watched as his owner took a stool at the bar, ordering himself a water and casually looking between the patrons,
ㅤㅤsizing up who had the deepest pockets in the room. the richer customers would be in within the hour, but it wouldn't
ㅤㅤhurt to dip his hands into what was already here while he waited.

ㅤㅤthe canine's role was best filled in the shadows, blending in perfectly. he had the perfect view to observe everyone
ㅤㅤin the room -- if a threat were to pop up, he would eliminate it with no hesitation.

ㅤㅤevery so often, people would glance towards the canine but their gaze would instantly skitter away to their games,
ㅤㅤoblivious to the fact that they were being watched so carefully.

ㅤㅤonce jax was done examining his options, he gave a barely perceptible nod towards the guy who sat two bar stools
ㅤㅤaway from him. marauder's eyes instantly snapped to the man and he tilted his head to the side, giving his consent
ㅤㅤto jax. this was an easy catch and marauder knew his owner would have no trouble getting his sticky fingers all over
ㅤㅤthe loot.

ㅤㅤthrowing back his drink, jax got up from his chair and pretended to drunkenly stumble towards the unsuspecting man.
ㅤㅤpretending to catch himself on the back of the man's chair, jax sobbed out a slurred apology, his fingers slipping into
ㅤㅤthe man's coat pocket and coming out with his wallet before slipping it into his own pocket.

ㅤㅤthe man shot him a dirty look and shrugged jax away from him, writing jax away as a drunken idiot. jax moved on,
ㅤㅤstumbling to the door that led to the bathrooms to inspect what he had earned.

ㅤㅤas the minutes droned on and jax returned to his seat at the bar, more and more customers filled the bar up, causing
ㅤㅤmarauder to slink closer to the wall of the corner. still he sat undetected, watching the patrons as the bar got rowdier.
ㅤㅤthis was the best time to hit -- it was pure chaos, people dancing on the floor and surrounding the pool tables. it was
ㅤㅤhard to believe this was the same bar compared to how calm it was just a little bit ago.

ㅤㅤmarauder had the perfect view of jax at the bar and not before long, jax turned in his chair towards the canine.
ㅤㅤinstantly, marauder knew it was time to put on his act. he waited for his owner to signal where he needed to go,
ㅤㅤand there it was -- a younger woman, outfitted in a dress and heels with jewelry around her neck, wrists..
ㅤㅤeverywhere, really. talk about overdressed.

ㅤㅤmarauder slunk from the shadows towards the girl. when he was closer, he put on the cute act, wagging his tail and
ㅤㅤletting his tongue hang out of his mouth. gasps were heard around him as they all noticed the canine in the midst
ㅤㅤof the people.

ㅤㅤthe girl raised her head and when she saw him, her eyes widened before being replaced with a big smile. she cooed
ㅤㅤto him, calling him over.

ㅤㅤhe dropped to his back, rolling around and showing her his belly in a playful manner. his tail wagged back and forth
ㅤㅤand he let out a small woof. she instantly lowered to the floor beside the fluffy canine, her purse forgotten in her
ㅤㅤvacated chair.

ㅤㅤout of the corner of his eye, marauder watched as jax inconspicuously scooped the purse up, hiding it on the inside
ㅤㅤof his jacket and heading towards the exit before he was noticed.

ㅤㅤthey would move to the next bar.
