away, but the sudden shock of cold that spread through his body internally damaged him, and he ended up dying due to hypothermia...

⤡ "You're a talented hunter," says Scorchstar, her eyes narrowed in suspicion as she stares at the strange tom-cat. His ginger coat ripples beneath the light, like liquid sun-rays. "Who taught you the ways of the desert? How did you find a hare burrow so quickly? You don't even know your way around..." Her tail lashes and she hardly blinks, holding his gaze with a determination unmatched.

The tom, named Scorpiontail, simply grins. "You asked for a hunter. Isn't that what you were saying? About that, er, what's it called?"

"Goldensky," Scorchstar's tone is unusually sharp. "They sent you here, show some respect."

"Right, right," Scorpiontail stretches, his front claws vexing against the shifting sands. The two cats sit in the center of camp, shaded from the afternoon heat by a tall palm tree. While the hunter seems a perfect picture of relaxation, Scorchstar is very much on edge. She doesn't trust him one bit - and she can tell he doesn't trust her, either. She isn't sure what has lead the two to meet, what plans Goldensky has in stock for them, but still, she is weary.

She anxiously curls her tail around her front paws and looked away from him, her golden eyes flashing with distrust.

venom lifted his head high above the small gathering of cats beneath him.
"we are gathered here today to officiate the mateship of two incredible members of blackmeadow: robin and flicker. you two have shown the clan that love at first sight truly can happen. your joy of being around each other is something you never tire of, and it inspires the rest of us. we all congratulate you on your union and wish you great success in the future moons. have you prepared your gifts?" the two cats nodded. robin, round face spread with a grin, lifted a paw to roll a stone to his future mate.
"flicker, i present to you this rock. i found it on the riverbed while looking for herbs. it's shininess not only reminds me of your name, but of the way you always sparkle. you light up everyone around you, and i need that in my life. i was a dull tom before i met you, and i'm so glad you were able to polish me up." he nudged the stone in her direction, and flicker accepted it gratefully. before revealing her own gift.
"robin, my gift to you is this jasmine flower. its sweet smell cannot compare to you, but it's as close as any earthly thing can be. you spend all your time around herbs, but there's a scent that's so distinctly you that i cherish more than anything. i've always loved flowers, they are beautiful and fragile, yet essential for so many things in nature. i can't think of anything that has a better description of our relationship." flicker stepped forward and wove the stalk of the flower into robin's fur, behind his ear. he murmured his thanks, licking her forehead in his appreciation, and promised to always keep it with him.
"with the gifts presented and the sentiments shared," venom continued "i now declare you mates! congratulations, and may the stars bless your union." he smiled down at them as they rushed together in a hug, cheers booming in the barn.
sitta looked up at venom with longing. ghost looked at sitta with envy.

-- kichea lounges on a sunny rock in the centre of camp, groaning as she rolls over and huffs, trying to convince her tired limbs to move so she can get around to doing everything she needs for the long day ahead. nearby ghost watches the queen's glistening golden pelt, the hint of a humoured smile softening his rather stoic features due to kichea's behaviour, one he's still getting used to since running into the molly. trotting up to the soldier's side,his polar opposite lake gives the younger tom a playful nudge on his way towards the queen, spotted tail swishing in his excitement to explore more of their vast territory.

-- father and son duo, lodin & saksi, sit together by the entrance to the makeshift camp, swapping short stories of their time spent travelling the distant plains before being swooped up by kichea. the two are rarely apart after losing their family, and their closeness warms the still-new group. they're approached by ghost and all head out for a quick patrol of the surrounding grasslands as the sun begins to set.

-- elusive as ever, beaver slinks from the shadows of a cluster of shrubs, having been struggling in the relentless heat these past few days the scavenger regularly seeks out the cooler spots of camp, unable to help the uncomfortable grimace eachtime he catches kichea bathing in the direct sunlight.

-- kichea eventually seems to realise the need to keep up her duties, dragging lake and beaver for a hunt in the long grasses beyond their first makeshift camp. the playful mood between the trio eventually becomes a little tense as the sun sets further and the unknown of their vast new home looks & sounds suddenly scarier.
