I took the plunge and got a second kitty this Summer! 5 years ago I adopted an adult cat from a local kitten rescue, and this year I went back for a kitten companion for her.
It's been... Rocky. I've never had such a poorly behaved cat. Don't get me wrong, I love the little devil but he shreds my arms constantly and I wake up in a bed full of "presents" from him, including but not limited to uprooted houseplants, a dead spider, cat toys, my bras from the laundry bin, and about anything that goes into a bathroom trash can. He does not understand "stop" or "no." Chewed on literally everything as his big boy teeth grew in.
I thought he would take after my adult cat, as she is so mild and I was hoping she would set a great example.
Well, now it turns out that his teething led to pica. He will stop at nothing to get plastic bags, carpeting, and other assorted clothing fabrics into his craw. He has adult teeth now finally but hasn't stopped chewing everything and eating bits. I use raplast on the more dangerous things he has been targeting (bitter apple did not work, raplast is what they use to keep horses from messing with their leg wraps I guess), and have to keep lambzearz-real dried up lamb ears??-and puppy chew stix around for him.
I don't need advice (I am working with a vet, as well as have some minimal veterinary medicine experience), I think I just wanted to vent and see if these could be normal kitten woes. Last time I had a kitten I was 5 years old and I remember none of this so it all feels new haha.
v Help me with my hoard? ♡ v

oh my, from my past experiences, i wouldn’t classify these as
regular “kitten woes” though i do have a cat that also has pica
but it only seems to happen with certain fabrics (mostly blankets).
obviously, no advice for pica as you said you’re working with a vet,
but maybe consider getting him a crate for bedtime if you’d prefer
to not be woken up with various household gifts haha.
i’m sure there’s some way to crate train a cat/at least have positive
reinforcement for a cat being in a crate for bedtime :) mine don’t seem
to mind being placed in a separate room for a few hours in the early
morning when they decide they’re hungry hours before breakfast haha
also, the energy & curiosity could be attributed to his age! i definitely
remember mine being way more mischievous as they were growing up!

My "middle child" Wynnie has a mild case of pica, so I definitely understand the frustration. She mostly chews on plastic, foil, blankets, and her toys though. All cats are individuals and have their own agenda, so we can never really expect how they're going to turn out as they grow. My youngest, Pumpkin, for example, was the sweetest little thing as a kitten. But as she grew, she became more and more aggressive. Even after we spayed her, she was still aggressive to the point that no one could touch her except for me, and even that was iffy. She's a couple years older now though, and has mellowed out a bit. I don't think she's lashed out at anyone (except maybe the dog) in almost a year.

Experiences like this really show how much of their own person each cat is. I do think that cats generally calm down as they grow up, but to what extent their misbehaving is part of their kitten nature, or just part of their personality, is really hard to tell. My first cat was calm and sweet the entire way through. My second cat was completely bouncing off the walls as a kitten, and has now grown into a calm (if a bit anxious) adult. And my third cat, who I'd still consider in her cat-young-teen years, has a single brain cell, only focused on speed and jumping (it is so clear that she doesnt consider the consequences of her actions), and shows no signs of slowing down. It's highly amusing at best, but often frustrating, too. But a good reminder that you don't really ever "own" them, you just choose to share your life with theirs, and that comes with all of their character flaws, too.

My cat Tigger has been rough lately so all pawsitive vibes and prayers (if you pray) please!!
Backstory;
About two weeks ago I got Togger from my moms (Tigger is 12 years old and I’ve owned him for 12 years) and he was getting really skinny, so I of course took him from there and brought him to live with me and my fiancé. He went to the vet last week on September 20th. They gave me vitamins to give to him. They drew his blood and everything came back normal. They said it was cancer. Okay so here I am freaking out, worried sick about what’s next.
He started eating again. Then the past few days he stopped eating, drinking and all he did was sleep.
Okay, so I took him to a different vet for a second opinion. They said they shouldn’t have said it was cancer without actually testing for it. They ended up giving him a congestion antibiotic shot and fluids and he’s eating and drinking again. ❤️ Hopefully it lasts and he gains the weight back because he went from 20lbs to 8.9lbs.

Here’s my warrior. My heart cat. ❤️

sending positive vibes, thoughts, and prayers your way Aura. <3
One of my cats, Theo, has a tumor of some sort growing on his stomach area. We noticed it about a month ago, and originally it was the size of a golf ball or smaller, and within a month it’s doubled in size. We took him to the vet and they said they recommend removing it and having it sent out to a lab to have it tested to see if it’s cancerous or not. We agreed, however, they said he needed blood work done before then to make sure that he’s healthy enough to make it through surgery and recovery. He got the blood work done yesterday, and the vet called us this afternoon with the results. He’s a completely healthy boy, everything came back good, he passed with flying colors. But, the one test that I feel mattered the most, came back positive in a bad way. He came back positive for feline leukemia. I feel numb. I still can’t believe it. He’s a completely normal, healthy, happy boy. The idea that he’s harboring such a deadly virus in his body is just mind blowing to me, and also incredibly scary. We have eight other cats and I’m absolutely terrified that they’re going to get it, if they don’t already have it. One of our other cats, Bindi, is showing signs of being sick. She hasn’t ate or drank in a day, which I know isn’t a long time, but she’s also having trouble breathing on top of that. We called the vet, and the soonest we can get her in is Friday. We’re going to have her tested for feline leukemia while we’re there, and if the result comes back positive, I don’t know want to think about what we’re going to have to do. If it comes back negative, we’re gonna get her vaxxed and then if the vet thinks there’s a chance she can pull through, I’m willing to try anything. This whole situation is absolutely destroying me, my furbabies are my life, I love them with my heart and soul, I don’t want lose anymore this year. I lost my childhood cat, Midnight, this year back in February, and then another cat, Kitten, in June. Two is already too many, I don’t want to add anymore to that list. My heart hurts. Please, if you pray, pray for us. If you don’t that’s fine! Please just send positive vibes or thoughts our way. I’ll accept anything and everything right now if it’ll help my babies. Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read this, I really appreciate it ❤

Update on tiggy..
Goodbye my friend… I’m gonna miss you so much… I remember saving you when you were a kitten from that crazy cat guy… how you were covered in fleas and skin and bone… I remember you always being there for me when I needed you most… thank you for being my best friend for 12 years now. Wish it was more, wish it was longer. I will never forget you buddy… now, go, be free and out of pain. I don’t know what was wrong with you buddy… I wish I knew so I could better help you… you are my best friend and nobody will ever take your place in my heart tiggy. Tigger lived a great 12 years and he died peacefully in my arms at 8:25pm on October 8, 2021. He’s being cremated and I will get his ashes back. Rest In Peace my good boy. Mama will miss you dearly. </3

my family started looking for a kitten in the hopes to get it before my boy passed away (he wasgiven 2 years 2 years ago) unfortunetly my boy passed before we got the kitten but we will be geting a kitten
im hoping it will be friends with my girl .shes been a bit lonley since my boy passed , due to her being a bit rough some times we have set up a play pen so if callie played a bit rough or one of them needs a break the kitten has a safe place , since it was newitsset up now so its just seen as normal to callie (who is very unsure of newthings)
i need a new signature
