I would give him space and room. I’d slowly extend my hand and let him sniff it. I’d then also put his food in his stall and stall with him so he knows that he can trust me. I’d then hold a treat in my hand and wait, letting him take all the time he needs. I’d dim the lights Sk that he’d relax a bit and have other horses with him when he is out in the pasture to keep him company and show him the ropes.

If he is showing signs of major aggression i would take a fake hand on a stick and reach out to him through the fence with it. I would keep doing that till i'm able to touch him without any aggressive signs. I'd eventually join him in his holding pen and reach a hand out. As soon as he sniffs it, i drop my hand and walk away. I would continue this process till i am able to touch him, and i'd eventually work a halter onto him. I would continue to touch his neck with a soft stroke once, and drop my hand. And whenever he isn't showing signs of aggression, rewarding him with a treat. If he begins to get aggressive again, i would turn my back and walk away as if that is some sort of punishment. After a few months of working with him, he will have learned that humans are good. And that when he allows them to touch him, he gets rewarded. And when he gets aggressive the human walks away and he gets no treat. He's a very smart guy and would much rather prefer the treats, but he still has his moments.

I would start off with introducing Whisper to my established herd. Whisper would be in a paddock with shelter by himself while members of my herd would be in an adjoining paddock. I would interact with my horses while just providing Whisper with fresh food and water before backing off. Hopefully this would make him see that the other horses do not consider me a threat. My next step would be to start spending time outside of his paddock. Overtime, as Whisper gets used to my presence, I would enter the paddock and just talk to him. If he started showing signs of fear or aggression, I would back off for the day. Eventually, I hope my persistence pays off and Whisper will trust me. Working to gain his trust would be a long project, but it would be worthwhile.
