I know Eevee and Umbreon are foxes, Espeon is a psychic cat (I don't get why...), Flareon is basically a fox dog (which foxes and dogs apparently can't actually breed), Jolteon is basically a corgi fox or just an electric fox, Vaporeon is a mer-dog, Mightyena is a wolf or dog, and that one electric one is a corgi, and Rockruff is a puppy.

Backstory: Much of Izzy's life was spent alone, her egg abandoned in the snow after her mother was caught. She managed just fine after hatching, and never felt especially bothered by this fact. Can one understand the concept of loneliness when they've never known anything else? She was fully mature - though still unevolved - when some human child and his overconfident Pikachu faced her. Much to the Vulpix's irritation, she lost. For a very long time she was bitter at being caught, bitter at losing to some undersized mouse, bitter at life in general for this turn hers had taken. She often refused to listen to her new trainers orders, often having to be strong-armed into helping with a well placed {but surprisingly controlled and gentle} Iron Tail from that stupid Pikachu.
But Izzy didn't handle their foray onto Wela Volcano very well. Her pride wouldn't allow her to back down from a fight, but after sneaking away from her trainer during a break she found herself face to face with a very, very angry Salazzle. She'd wandered too close to her nest, and she quickly found herself at the lizard's mercy. She had too big of a type disadvantage to overcome her, and right before she blacked out she saw some yellow glowing blur send her opponent flying.
She woke up in a Pokemon Center at the base of the volcano two days later, Virus curled up next to her simply... watching over her.
Much as she hated to admit it at the time, their dynamic started to change after that point. She still had a bit of an attitude towards her trainer and his other Pokemon, but Virus no longer had to do much more than gently prod her with a comment to get her to actually pull her weight. She found herself seeking out his company while they were camping outside, or eating, or simply whenever they were both free of their Pokeballs. She prodded him for information about his life, and in return offered snippets of her own past.
Their trainer was gifted an Ice Stone not long before their final Grand Trial, and though there was no doubt it would go to her she still snagged it to evolve before it was 'officially' given to her. This really just amused the rest of the team more than anything else - though Virus did find that her tails were a nice place to nap when it was just a bit too warm out. She would always act annoyed even when she wasn't.
Much to their trainer's surprise {apparently not realizing either that Alolan Raichu and Ninetales share an egg group or that the pair was that close}, Masumi's egg was laid on the trip to the mainland from Alola - hatching soon after they landed. What happened between landing on the mainland and Izzy and Sumi being wild and alone is something she refuses to speak of, but sometimes if she doesn't notice someone else is around she simply looks... sad.
Appearance: Izzy is noticeably larger than average, and her eyes are a bright ruby-red.

He doesn't seem to know what happened to his trainer or his father, but often insists -- with a child's certainty -- that his dad is going to join them soon. Izzy's expression on these occasions make it clear how unlikely that is.
Appearance: Sumi is a bit small for a Pichu, and very fluffy -- all his fur is long and a bit wavy and inclined to stick up in odd ways on the top of his head. He's a soft pale yellow, as opposed to your usual bright yellow or shiny orange, and his eyes are pure white, giving the impression of him being blind when he actually can see just fine.
