newleaf -- everything is lush and beautiful, the plants and trees are thriving under the summer sun, and cats and predators alike have all come out to enjoy the warmth before it goes away. the good news for the clans is that sickness seems to have been brought under control, though the threat of heat exhaustion lurks if a cat overworks themself. medicine cats can take it easy, able to rely on the warm weather to keep their workload down - though it is never a bad idea to stock up on herbs, as leaf-fall and leafbare are just around the corner [ descriptor - simonpet ]

--Mintpaw stays out late training for her assessment, Thrashertalon comes by to chat with her and they are quick to make friends.
--Seeking solitude, Sorrelwhisker sits hunched over in the forest until her rescuer from the moon past comes by to talk to her, finally building up the courage to say more than a few words. Hazeheart admits to Sorrelwhisker that she saved her from her old group because she thought she was pretty... Only half-joking, the two share a laugh, Sorrelwhisker feeling a bit better after the hard day of mourning her sister.
--Cloverwish and Mockingbirdcry get to know their kits a bit more. In the other corner of the new nursery, Slatefang closes off her feelings and doesn't let others see how hard the loss of both her mate and her sister have affected her. She feels so alone, even with Shriketuft not far away and her newborn kits nestled beside her...

I could see that the new family of cats was distracted. Cypressgrowl, Cloudpounce, and Rustgaze would perform their duties without being sidetracked, but I would watch Fireblaze and Pebblesplash both look out into the distance, as if they were waiting for them. I wasn't one to pry, so I never asked them about it; besides, I probably wouldn't have offered good advice. I could tell that they were looking for someone, or perhaps something but their body language said otherwise, and I knew that the chances of any cat being alive in this environment was slim to none. But hope was a powerful agent, and besides, I liked having my doubts proven wrong.

I didn't let myself get too distracted with the family woes, I was too focused on getting the clan as strong as possible as fast as possible. Which, so far, was somehow working. Another couple of cats for the clan had come around the horizon, traveling a bit more smartly. To be honest, we almost missed them; but they, too, had lost their clan, like it seems so many had thanks to these Solar Flares. Ragingsoul and Needlefrost were powerful assets to SolarClan already, their determination and strategic prowess so far unmatched by anyone else in the clan. Though I didn't want to discount Fireblaze or Pebblesplash, as even while they were distracted they were still a cut above the other warriors, even Cloudpounce, as much as I respected him.

But I was proven wrong on the later half of the moon, and Fireblaze and Pebblesplash's distractions were paid off. Another small family came to us at night, a bit smarter about their traveling habits than their younger family members had been, but maybe it was because they were older. An entire family, reunited in SolarClan. I would have never thought I would see the day that an entire family would be disbanded and somehow reunite in a foreign clan in the middle of the apocalypse.

Fireblaze was lucky, as I had assigned him guard duty the night his family arrived. I hadn't yet fallen asleep, thinking too much about logistics and what to do for the next day. "Mom?" I heard the break in Fireblaze's voice as he called out, and at first I thought he was dreaming. I only left my comfortable nest because I was going to banish him, truthfully, if he had fallen asleep during his guard duty. The soft murmur of surprised conversation reached my ears, quickening my steps up to the surface.

"What's going on?" I asked harshly, glaring up through the darkness at a pair of light colored cats. I heard a soft squeak, and a small movement from behind the fluffier of the pair caught my attention. Was that yet another kit?

Fireblaze's eyes were bright with emotion, giving the other cats a comforting nod as he indicated towards me. "Mom, dad, little bro... this is my Clan leader. I live in a place called SolarClan now, and Solarstar is the leader here. He's been... welcoming." I let out a slight smirk at Fireblaze's hesitation, but I nodded in his direction as thanks.

"Your mother and father? And younger brother?" I regarded the three cats carefully at Fireblaze's happy nod. "Well, bring them in. I will take over your guard duty for the rest of the night. Do not disturb the rest of the clan, as we all have a busy day tomorrow." I dismissed the three with a flick of my tail, not even caring about their names, at least for the night.

SolarClan seemed to have found a bit of good luck.

- flashback to morningpaw as a kit wandering in the wild and trying to fend for herself after her mother was killed by a fox

- flash forward to morningpaw training with skytrail. she seems distracted so he tries to get her to open up and talk. bless skytrail's heart he's trying but morningpaw is abrasive and lowkey rejects him

- thunderstar goes back to the daybreak border alone to try to scope it out but he's interrupted when he sees a loner being chased out of daybreak's territory. he considers going out to help them, but he gets nervous that it would alert daybreak that eventide has returned so he stays back and watches as the loner disappears into the woods

- skytrail goes to thunderstar to tell him that he needs help with morningpaw. bless skytrail's heart he's trying so hard. but thunderstar tells skytrail that morningpaw is still settling in and that she'll come around. he makes a joke about how he wasn't easy to manage when he was her age, either. and its the first time anyone has seen thunderstar smile its a miracle

- while the squad is out on patrol, they come across a makeshift camp where quartzsight is hiding out. she almost runs away but thunderstar mentions that he saw her being chased by daybreak and she gets a little antsy but she accepts his offer to stay in eventide, even only temporarily.

-morningpaw sneaks out from camp in the middle of the night to try to find the fox so she can get revenge. but she gets distracted watching a daybreak patrol. she thinks about what thunderstar said about his mission and getting revenge for those who wronged them. she vows that she'll avenge her mother and help thunderstar, but she knows she'll have to train harder and get stronger

The death of Cloudscorch sends Heronpaw into a frenzy. He somehow manages to pass his assessment and is given his warrior name, but the death of yet another cat he was close with has certainly done a number on his mental health. He makes his misery known to his clanmates, despite the fact that, or perhaps because, nothing could be done. He most especially blames Rookstorm and Garterheart for being unable to save his best friend. Creekleap quietly takes note of Heronstripe's angst, particularly the new warrior's growing beef with clan leadership.

Rookstorm is distraught at the loss of his mate, and cannot feel the excitement he thought he would feel at the arrival of his two children. On a certain level, he can't help but feel that they were the cause of Mariposastep's death. Despite this, he vows to be a good father to Fawnkit and Frostkit.

Kiteshadow arrives in the middle of the chaos. He is lithe, strong, and hails from a culture similar to that of Arroyoclan, so steps into the role of being a warrior easily. His comfortable skill is appreciated by Sunstar and Rookstorm; they needed a rock amidst the chaos.

Sunstar and Cougarclaw find a kitten unexpectedly on a patrol. The kitten is quite young, yet is seemingly parentless. The pair deems it appropriate to take the kitten back to the Clan, and after some deliberation decides to primarily raise the kitten themselves. The kitten is named Fiddlekit, and both Sunstar and Cougarclaw decide to partially step back from their duties for a few moons to ensure Fiddlekit's wellbeing.

Vetchpaw, Madronepaw, and Oatpaw have become apprentices, and for the most part, the Clan as a whole couldn't be more proud. Oatpaw, however, is trepidatious about their new role as medicine cat apprentice. They dislike how they're treated differently from their siblings and are nervous around Sagewhisker.

with their archangel in the nursery still, the clan's two seraphim take the responsibility of informing two of their now-dead clanmates mates of their passing. basilfloof takes the long trek towards arroyoclan, eventually coming across the border and waiting for a patrol to pass by so he could go with them to the clan's camp. basilfloof makes his way into the clan's medicine cat's den, where the pair speak privately, and basilfloof offers comfort to sagewhisker about his loss. smogtongue takes the closer trek towards quickclan and, having some relationships himself in the clan, makes his way to where he knows the clan's camp was. smogtongue asks cyanstar for permission to speak to one of his warriors about a loved one lost, and once herongaze returns from his patrol, smogtongue takes him aside and shares the tale of bravery for how icerunner lost his life saving a pregnant queen from a dog.

sunspot and solarstrike struggle deeply with the sudden loss of their family member; solarstrike was never as close to the rest of his siblings in sloughclan, but she had always been attached at the hip with flarewing. one of her older half-siblings, weavercry, promises their father to look after and comfort the mourning she-cat as sunspot makes the lonely journey to sloughclan, where he informs his ex-partner gingerblaze and their three other kits (nutmegpaw, macepaw, & cinnamonpaw) about the sudden death of flarewing.

mambo magnolia, known as a pillar of emotionless expression, completely falls apart at the sight of her son's body being carried back by the hunting patrol. some blamed her strong emotions on the fact that she was a nursing-cupid at the moment, so her hormones were running wild inside of her. hawkfrost does his best to comfort his mate, and their 5 moon old kit who doesn't understand why her family is so upset. what was once a litter of four had now become a litter of two, plus their younger sister, and mothrain and butterflyswoop both made a promise to one another that they would each name their firstborn kits someday after their lost siblings.
