Re: The Autistic Club ∞

Oh, of course! Tone indicators are used to represent the tone a person would be speaking in if their message wasn't typed. The two earliest ones used, to my knowledge, were /s (for sarcasm) and /j (for a joking tone). Others I've seen are /lh, (light-hearted), /p (platonic; usually follows something to the effect of "ily <3"), /nbh (nobody here), /pos (positive), /neg (negative), and /lyr (lyrics). I mainly use the first three I listed.

Im Ian, Ive been told by my mom and aunt that i have autism but im not really sure of what that means ? i mean i know that i really like foxes and learning about rocks and my friends call me weird because i really like to talk about those things and because i do a lot of stimming? i think thats what it is!! I like to clap my hands when i get really excited and sway a lot!!! I also really like to gently bop my fist against my palm a lot :3

im very much nonverbal but the autism self advocacy network has a v nice page about just like, how varied autism is! its pretty much what you described, we just experience things differently; sometimes more intensely, sometimes less, but enough to be considered odd by ppl who notice it orz. im sorry that your friends call you weird :(

Swiftpaw: Re: tone indicators: I think it might be worth noting that they don't work for everyone. We know a few people with anxiety, PTSD, or RSD who often read tone indicators as their opposite, and it makes them worry that people are lying or are trying to hide their anger. We usually ask people not to use them around us because we have all of the above and some of our system do genuinely start to distrust people who use them.

I also know a few people who distrust those who use /pos or /gen after compliments or things which wouldn't usually be read as negative since they feel it implies that they don't always compliment people genuinely, and we know some other autistic people who find them patronizing (especially if they're treated like such already).

I think a general rule of thumb is to use them only if tone might not be easy to tell through text, which was why /s and /j were started because sarcasm and joking done is hard to convey through text. It's also a good idea to ask before using them around someone.

not sure if this is a weird question but sensory issues makes finding clothes Very Very hard so does anyone have an recommendations for like..seamless undergarments that aren't high waisted? ^^;
i've found nautica and adrienne vitadini are alright, and vince camuto is too except they have this Huge seam across the bottom, but even though they're ~high end~ (i get them retail lmao) they're still not...perfect.
bc seams or just being too tight around the legs :(
im like super sensitive to cotton (not allergic, just sensory. sighs.) and seams and tight fitting things so like literally shopping is A Nightmare and i was wondering if anyone else had the same sensory issues and advice bc literally i've only found seamless and/or microfiber garments like from retail stores or like..meundies and all that
ill of course delete if this is breaching boundaries, im just not sure bc it's like. 'help clothes hurt' ghfgfgj

Bathbombs are so stimmy to watch! I want to buy one sometime, it’s so cool it had an infinity ring in it! It’s also nice to see another non/low-speaking person! Do you happen to use communication cards or a device? I have an AAC device that I speak with 💜

I relate to that, I still wear clothes from 7 years ago because I can’t find any new ones that are sensory friendly! I have found new things here and there from thrift shops, I walk around feeling all the clothes until I find something tolerable. I don’t know of any brands that make sensory friendly clothes though:(

bathbombs my beloved..whoever designed them is like, a blessing theyre so so prettyyy; it was the uhh da bomb's savage bomb if i remember right? i was So excited to see it be that ring tho, i wear it so often!! and i dont :( i've thought about it, like cards and stuff, but i feel like i can't appropriately plan what i'll say/have to say ghghgh. though i have thought about those like, pins with a slide-y bit you can move around to show on a chart how verbal u are that day! i've seen them somewhere and the concept is just so convenient + most the time i can talk but sometimes so it's like ehhhh idk idk

oh same like if something will stay soft that long i Will keep it; tbh i've resorted to mainly wearing pajamas bc some of them look like normal clothes, like..why do ppl Insist on making seams or fabrics so rough you can't tell me ppl buy and wear these??? tbh i'm so tempted to start sewing my own despite not knowing anything. and it's ok, i will continue my hunt regardless bc god knows i have a sizable list of 'these are ok most of the time' brands
