Nope! The pets from the crystal dig are all still available, it just seems that you are more likely to dig up a crystal than a pet. ^^

The new plant items from today are free items from the Giant Forest.
The new dinosaur "night light" items are free adopts from the Luminescent Caverns.
The fossil items are token trade-ins from the Cave Paintings.
There is also a new set of accessories from the Village. ^^

A use for the energized crystal has not been introduced yet, but there may be one coming in the future!

Storywise, it was how the portal to the prehistoric 'outside' was opened and how we got through it. Even though we were able to get through it without actually having the crystal (thank goodness).
