Im so lost on where to get the crystal pets ;-; can someone tell me where I can find them?

I was going crazy trying to find the crystal pets. Till a friend updated me it's in the dig site >.<

So you rather get a crystal or a pet when you dig for crystals?

If the cave does take us back to the ice age with sabertooths, possibly little cavemen hammies. I would lovee a mammoth. Im holding out hope. Im thinking we'll get caved in? And towards the end have to dig our way out again maybe? Im not very accurate on the historical timeline of prehistoric eras but dinosaur would be cool too or even ice block items

We are in a quite unique cavern here; the area where we live is akin to the most recent ice age.

And help us find the journal? I know I'm asking a lot, but if another cave-in happens...

But im absolutely loving this event it has to be one of my favorites

I've gotten all the axolotls but no crystal pets and I'm wondering if there's a trick to getting the pets? T_T
I keep getting the crystal within the first 2-3 digs and I'm just wondering how unlucky am I
