born in lancashire in 1957 to joyce and gerald valentine, clive was a considerably troublesome child, cons
tantly throwing himself into dangerous situations (and committing minor acts of arson now and again) an
d finding himself in the local police station more often than his mother would have liked to admit to their
well-off neighbours. he turned 18 in 1975 and wasted no time in moving to london, growing tired of sma
ll-town judgement and yearning for the rush of city life. when he arrived, he found himself in his element,
spending most of his nights at parties and discos, exploring areas of his identity suppressed by the stiflin
g nature of the village he grew up in. it went downhill in 1983, though, when his health declined at a rapi
d, bizarre pace - there were rumours, of course, as there always were, but he hadn't heeded them. hadn't
believed that he would be impacted until he was nursing pcp and being told he didn't have much time left.
he didn't want to believe it. instead, he sought out bizarre cures, attempted everything in the book, every
rumour and every homeopathic cure, supported by a small group of friends that he had made in his move.
he never told his parents, fearing their disappointment, their shame. six months after his diagnosis, he he
ard rumours of a doctor in germany who was trialling a cure - and in a last-ditch effort, made his way to t
he country. he never made it. he's not really sure how it happened, but one moment he was in a car, his fr
iend driving, and the next he was in a bed, being stared down at by someone who looked notably different
t to the doctors he knew. they cured him - fixed him right up - and he stayed in the village that saved his
life out of reverence for the people who had granted his health back to him when all seemed greatly dire.

boisterous, sometimes a bit crass, and a bold product of his time, clive does
not tend to think about the repercussions of his actions before he completes
them. he's egotistical, but not in a demeaning manner - rather, he is the typ
e driven by grandiosity, and insists on versions of people that are perhaps fa
r more interesting, eccentric, and profound than they truly are. he has an ex
cellent sense of humour, and though a part of him is still linked to his previo
us life through brief glimpses of memories and the like, he appreciates lethe
as the place that saved him when no doctor and no medication could.
