Ouranos Scout Activity #1

Postby DarkestWerewolf » Mon Mar 15, 2021 9:55 pm

The air was crisp and the sun was rising in the morning sky. Ouranos stepped out from his cave with a yawn and a stretch. It put him in a good mood.

The avidae decided that it was a good day to explore and maybe find some interesting items for his personal collection or even to decorate his cave. With an agenda in mind, he quickly strapped on his bag to collect the items in, spread his wings and with a mighty flap, Ouranos was up in the air, allowing the wind to carry him away.

As he soared above the rolling plains of his territory, he could see darting shadows amongst the tall grass, signalling the bustling lives that was happening. Wild hares and gophers are common residents of the land. However, Ouranos had no interest in the plains today. He was headed to the nearby lake - Mermaid Hideout.

That particular lake is connected to the open sea and is known to have an interesting array of fish species at varying times of the year as well as many interesting things washed up along the shore. Ouranos flew towards one of the further ends of the lake mouth, where it’s closer to the sea. As he landed, he could already see some little shimmering items amongst the black pebbled shore.

The avidae looked around, green eyes carefully going through the rocks and pebbles. There were many beautiful sea glass that sprinkles the shore. However, most were rather dull or broken. Ouranos might be a gatherer but he can be rather picky with items that he collect. He continued following the shoreline and scouring for pretty items to bring back, occasionally picking up a sea glass or washed up trinket to hold up and observe before plopping it back on the shore or into his bag.

Some time had passed and Ouranos’ bag was still rather light. Judging by the sun, it was closely approaching noon. A sigh escaped his mouth. Seems like it might not be his best gathering day. As he was about to turn back, he saw something scuttling across the pebbles. A tiny white cone shell was moving ever so delicately. Ouranos quietly approached it.

    A hermit crab.

My, what a rare sight! The avidae’s eyes immediately brightened up as he followed the hermit crab from a distance. It was foraging for food amongst the pebbles, little pincers digging into the dirt and pebbles every so often before bringing the food back to its mouth.

How fascinating. Ouranos was completely enamoured. He quietly followed it, watching it scuttle along the shore until it disappeared behind a large boulder. However, something else on the Boulder caught the feline’s attention. The sun’s rays reflected off the item so well, it made Ouranos narrow his eyes. Upon a closer look, it turns out to be a coin. A golden coin!

Ouranos gasped. He felt like a pirate in a cartoon. The wordings and minor details on the coin was a bit scratched up but it was still a good find.

He happily placed the coin in his bag, silently thanking the hermit crab before flying back to his cave with his new items. (535 words)

Ouranos Scout Activity #2

Postby DarkestWerewolf » Tue Mar 16, 2021 10:01 pm

Ouranos awoke at the crack of dawn, much earlier than expected but he wasn’t complaining. As of late, the colony had been looking to expand their territory. As a scout, Ouranos had to explore new lands and to ensure that it was safe and habitable.

After some breakfast and a mighty stretch, Ouranos flapped his wings, lifting himself high above the land below him. He had always been curious of the woodlands east of Secret Haven. Maybe the woods would make for a good exploration and hopefully a promising new extension of their territory.

As the woods came into view, Ouranos landed quietly on the grass. He sniffed the air and looked around, checking to see if anything seems off. So far, everything is calm. There were no signs of any danger.

The feline started exploring the woodlands. Trees loomed above him, allowing Ouranos to have a comfortable shade away from the sun. As he wondered further, he came to realise that the woods were filled with life. There were fruit-bearing trees and bushes scattered all around. The hunters would have a field trip when they see this.

There were burrows found under large trees and the chirping birds signalled that life was also flourishing amongst the tall branches. The woodlands was such a calming exploration and made for a promising report when Ouranos returns. However, woodlands can never be completely ridden of predators. It would upset the circle of life. There must be predators lurking about. While they do pose a threat, avidaes tend not to worry too much about them. As long as they are always alert, they wouldn’t be on a predator’s menu.

Ouranos continued to explore the woodlands for the rest of the day. While it was quite a large area, he had no problems scouring the wide land with his nimble paws. When he was hungry, he snacked on some of the rodents and berries. One might argue that it’s part of the exploration too. Gotta make sure everything tastes good.

He crept along the tall branches of the trees quietly, being as quiet as possible on his exploration. Ouranos understands that his foreign presence might cause a disturbance and affect the behaviour of the woodlands residences.

As he wondered deeper, he realised that the chirping of the birds had grown softer. His green eyes scanned the woodlands floor from above, trying to catch sight of anything. Soon, Ouranos spotted a tree that had been scratched up. Based on the large markings that marred the bark and the path of broken branches and trampled bushes, he could safely assume that bears also reside in the woodlands.

While it is nothing alarming, it is best to keep vigilant. With that, Ouranos decided that he has explored enough. It was definitely a serene exploration and would definitely make for a good territory expansion. With a mighty flap, he took to the skies once more, the setting sun casting a long shadow as he soared closer to the land, happily reflecting on his exploration. The colony would definitely be thrilled about his report. (515)

Ouranos Scout Activity #3

Postby DarkestWerewolf » Sat May 22, 2021 9:05 pm

Ouranos considers himself a connoisseur of trinkets. Living in the forest has allowed her to encounter a wide range of trinkets and items from fallen coins of travelling merchants to discarded cloths of travelling gypsy and even just rare stones from the earth itself.

There are so many colours and variety to begin with. Some coins are big and shine a silver shimmer, some a small little gold one while others are old, dirty or event bent. Ouranos would analyse each trinket with scrutiny before plopping it in his bag.

Stones in particular are Ouranos’ favourite, more specifically, sea glass. They are always hidden amongst the rocky pebbles beaches and are beautiful and eye catching when found. A pretty little blue sea glass amongst the black pebbles. However, they’re uncommon and Ouranos won’t just pick any sea glass he finds. They have to be of a unique colour and a nice shape - something he doesn’t have yet.

Today, he’s determined to find another sea glass to add to his collection. He’s gone of many days to search for the perfect one but to no avail. However, today is the day he finds one. He sets of to the beach that meets Mermaid Hideout. It was midday and the sun was high in the sky, perfect for sea glass finding. As he lands, he could already see some sea glass scattered amongst the pebbles and sand. Many whites or shades of washed-out blue. He already has quite a few of those so that’s off the list. As he walked along the shore, he saw more sea glass in shades of brown. Still nothing worth bringing home. He continued walking, occasionally walking deeper into the water to cool off. It wasn’t particularly hot but the cool water felt good.

While he wasn’t searching for sea glass, his eyes would be mesmerised by the little bubbles coming out from the sand as the water receded. A shellfish of sort probably. He didn’t dare to dig it up, afraid it would be a crab with a viscous pinch and he isn’t intending to go home with a bruised nose and no sea glass. Ouranos looked over the horizon, it seemed he had about 2 hours or so before the sun sets. He looked back at the long trail of paw prints, some vanishing into the sea. It’s time to turn back or he’ll only reach Secret Haven by nightfall. Maybe he’ll have more luck on the route back. With a sigh, he made a turn and started walking back, using his wings to help turn some large rocks or sand over to search for a unique sea glass.

Even as the chances of finding a good sea glass slims down, Ouranos pushed forth. He has to at least get back to the shore near Secret Haven. Over an hour has passed and the sun started had started to paint the sky a light orange. Just then, Ouranos yelped. His right paw quickly retracting from the sand. He looked down and saw a light purple bump in the sand. The feline carefully dug it out and to his pleasant surprise, it’s a sea glass! A lavender coloured sea glass. He most certainly doesn’t have such a pretty sea glass yet. The avidae was ecstatic. He quickly washed the sand off in the sea and held it in his paws to admire it further. It was a beautiful frosted lavender colour. It was of a round-ish shape with a round pointed end.

Ouranos placed it in his bag and looked at the horizon. He still had less than an hour before sunset. He’s definitely able to make it home on time and with some time to spare. With a mighty flap of his wings, he’s off. Excitement rushes through his body as he hurries home to add it to his collection. (646)

Ouranos Scout Activity #4

Postby DarkestWerewolf » Sun May 30, 2021 2:44 am

It was another new day. The weeks have come and went. The clan was small but ever growing. More were bound the moon the clan soon and they would need a bigger space.

Ouranos sighed. It was time. The clan has grown from its humble beginnings. However, they will need to branch out and expand their territory if they choose to grow bigger and sustain themselves in future. The lone leader stood at the top of the cave, gazing out into the horizons. Gaia, his partner waited below. They have been familiar to the Plains of Rhea, having explored much of it. However, the east of Secret Haven was still widely unexplored. Serene Woodlands lies east of Secret Haven. What mysteries does it hold? Are there any hostile creatures? Food source? Another clan? Only one way to find out.

“Time for an expedition to the east. I’ll be exploring and scouting Serene Woodlands. I’ll leave at dawn.” Ouranos said, hopping back down to meet Gaia.

He had been prepping for an expedition and it was finally time. At the crack of dawn, Ouranos got up and got ready. Gaia sat at the entrance, watching Ouranos ready himself despite being half-asleep.

“Come back soon.” She said, sleep still evident in her raspy voice.

Ouranos turned and embraced Gaia in his wings, reassuring her. With a mighty flap of his wings, he took off into the sky. Even with wings, it was going to be nearly a day’s journey.

As the sun slowly rose higher, Ouranos slowly started to wake up. It was going to be a long flight to the woodlands and he isn’t sure if he would have the energy to fly the entire way if he’s being honest. By noon, he finally arrived at the border between Secret Haven and Serene Woodlands. Ouranos decided that it was a good time for a break as he decided to hunt and forage for food around. He automatically headed for the shore of Naga’s Lake to fish. The avid had definitely gotten better at it. He took lessons from Gaia after she hurt herself from laughing too much at his sorry attempts to fish. He had caught a pair of trout. If only he could show it to her at that moment, it wouldn’t save his bruised ego from the first time but it was an improvement regardless. With both trouts in his mouth, Ouranos brought it under a large tree to rest and enjoy his meal.

After a hearty lunch, he was off once again. The sun was up in the sky but there wasn’t any wind, making it a rather hot flight. He took a few pit stops along the way and even took a dip in the lake to cool off. It was unfortunate that there weren’t a lot of trees around but the tall grass held indications of life as scampering groundhogs could be seen darting into their burrows when they noticed a large shadow flying by. The avid finally arrived at the outskirts of Serene Woodlands with slightly under 2 hours of sunlight to spare. First thing on the agenda was to find a safe shelter first. Ouranos was cautious to not wander too deep into the forest, should he accidentally traipse into a predator or another clan’s territory.

He scoured for a bit before finding a large hole under a tree. It looked to be an old fox den and it was pretty roomy too. After finding shelter, he went to find some branches and large leaves to cover the entrance at night. The avid was lucky enough to encounter berry bushes nearby and settled on it for dinner. The forest so far didn’t seem bad at all. As night fell, Ouranos laid in his makeshift bed of leaves and branches allowing sleep to take over, exhausted from a day of flying.

It was mid-morning when he had awoken and decided to spend the day exploring. Ouranos was on guard, silently crossing the forest floor rather than using his wings to avoid drawing unwanted attention. Birds could be heard chirping amongst the tall trees. The forest seemed to live up to its name - serene but it was better to be cautious. He couldn’t pick up on any scent or sign of another clan so the forest is probably still free space. As the day went on, it became quite clear that he wasn’t the only predator. Foxes were a common sight and Ouranos had seen a few across the span of the day. However, foxes were more skittish and would usually flee when they encounter the avidaes since the wings makes them look bigger and more intimidating. Food and water was in abundance so it wasn’t a worry. By nightfall, Ouranos was back in the den, huddled amongst the leaves. A very faint cry of a wolf could be heard but it was safe to say that it would not in the forest and wouldn’t pose a threat at the moment.

By the next morning, he was up and ready to head back. His expedition to Serene Woodlands proved to be a success. Ouranos was extremely pleased with the turn out and it was definitely a place that the clan would expand into in future. (880)

Gaia Hunt Activity #1

Postby DarkestWerewolf » Sun May 30, 2021 3:03 am

It was yet another early morning at Secret Haven and the pair of avidae had awoken not long to start their day.

“I will scout a new area and let you know if it’s possible to branch out our territory. I trust that you can go hunting on your own at Plains of Rhea.” Ouranos instructed.

“Of course, bird brain. I’ll bring you back enough food to last us days. Promise.” She winked.

Ouranos chuckled and nodded. They both headed out to stretch and spread their wings. Ouranos took off towards the forest while Gaia headed to the plains.

She decided to stop by Naga’s Lake to try fishing. After a couple of failed attempts, a sigh of frustration was let out. Gaia was having a less than ideal time fishing. The fish were large and fast which were proving to be a lot more troublesome than she had imagined.

As she stared intently at the water in front of her, she’s mentally scolding herself for being so smug towards Ouranos. He would never let her live it down if she could not bring back food. He’d tease her to the end of time.

With a sigh, she continued waiting patiently. She’s going to get a fish whether she likes it or not. Her pride would never let her go back empty-handed, lest she gets an earful of cackles from Ouranos that she will never hear the end of.

Gaia crouched lower to the water, mouth just barely above the surface. It was a good position to go with. She had been adjusting her body after every failed attempt to get better at it. She laid still as water moved gently past her. Just then, a dark shadow could be seen at the corner of her eye. With a quick dip into the water and her claws digging into the prey, she quickly hauled out a fish and threw it onto the pebbled ground. It flopped about helplessly as she went in for the kill. Gaia was over the moon. It seemed like her technique was working! As she continued doing it, she became more and more successful. The pile of fish behind her started to grow. After she was satisfied with the amount she caught. The avid decided to make a quick trip back to Secret Haven to store them before she continued hunting. Once she tossed them into the food storage, she took off once more.

At the Plains of Rhea, hares and gophers could be seen dashing across the tall grass as a large shadow flew over them. Gaia chased the hares mercilessly, using the speed from diving down to catch them. Her claws proved to be a fatal menace as she successfully caught and killed her first prey. While her wings makes her too big to rat them out from the burrows, Gaia makes up for it in patience and keen eyes. Any prey that could find their burrow entry or came out thinking she was gone became her kill. With 5 successful kills, Gaia decided it was time to head back

She picked a hare up and tossed the rest on her back as she took off and headed back home to share the food. The look on Ouranos face was something she’d always remember. (550)
