greenleaf -- everything is lush and beautiful, the plants and trees are thriving under the summer sun, and cats and predators alike have all come out to enjoy the warmth before it goes away. the good news for the clans is that sickness seems to have been brought under control, though the threat of heat exhaustion lurks if a cat overworks themself. medicine cats can take it easy, able to rely on the warm weather to keep their workload down - though it is never a bad idea to stock up on herbs, as leaf-fall and leafbare are just around the corner [ descriptor - simonpet ]

STORY NOTES
─ Ripplestream amuses Cricketpounce's kits while he is off on patrol. Magpiewhistle joins her, listening in to the stories for her youngest siblings and offering her own twist. Ripplestream is charmed by her soft voice.
─ Thistleflight and Cherryclaw jokingly flirt with one another. Wrenpaw feigns annoyance. Thistleflight catches another glimpse of Ravenswoop. Alderpaw and Wrenpaw notice him as well, much to their mother's astonishment. Ghost lore!
─ Brightkit and Twigkit become apprentices. Branchbreak and Tidepool celebrate, while Daisystem and Emberglow get to know their new apprentices.
─ Betonypaw, Stormpaw, and Darkpaw get into a petty argument while patrolling. Tensions build until Komodo and Tallthorn interfere, but it seems that the apprentices are still nursing grudges.
─ Goldenheart and Cardinaltail spend some time catching up. Goldenheart remarks on the struggles of being a single parent, and laments that he hasn't seen Hopfrog in quite a while.
─ Jayswoop and Bramblingpath, out on a walk, stumble across a contemplative Cinderstorm. Bramblingpath's former mentor confesses that he was thinking about his family. Foreshadowing!
─ Cricketpounce and Ivystar make plans to visit SpruceClan's old territory in one moon, as a final farewell to their pasts.

“Da?” Foxfire stands at the tunnel entrance “pa?” She takes a step forward, eyes wide as she stares at the two cats who had followed Eelstar into the cave.
Two toms step forward with a smile as Foxfire rushes forward to bury her face in their fur. “I missed you two so much! How are you here?” She moves back to look up at them.
“Not sure,” Badger says with a shrug. “Fidget just had a weird feeling, said we had to come this way. We didn’t know why, and neither did he, but we of course followed him.”
“Us?” Foxfire asks, confused. This is when she notices a young kit peeking out from behind Badger. “Who are you?” He asks, moving past Badger to squint up at Foxfire.
Foxfire squints back at the kit “I’m Fidget and Badgers daughter.” She says, glancing from the kit to her parents. “Yeah, well I’m their son!” He sticks his tongue out at Foxfire as her fur starts to fluff up.
Badger takes a step between them. “Both of you chill. Ok? Foxfire, meet your brother, Smoky.”
“Brother? You took in another kit?” Foxfire asks, a hint of jealousy in her voice as Fidget nods.
“We, ugh, we travelled for a bit with another couple, Smoke and Lilac. Smoke… smoke passed, he-“ Fidget pauses, looking down. Badger rests his tail tip on his mate's shoulder “Why don’t you go talk with Eelstar for a bit, ok honey?” Fidget nods, walking off sadly as Smoky follows him.
Badger turns back to Foxfire. “A couple seasons back, we were all passing through a small two-leg place. One day we crossed this weird field where plants were growing in rows. We got out of the plants, and several dogs started barking from further up a hill next to a two-leg den. All of us sprinted to a nearby tree and climbed up. Fidget got to the tree last, and wasn’t able to get up before the dogs got to him. One of them grabbed onto his tail and pulled him down and he- he froze. I was about to jump down but Smoke beat me to it, he had been just ahead of Fidget so he was closer. He jumped down onto one of the dogs and was able to keep them away long enough for me to get Fidget to climb back up.” Badger pauses, looking off to the side. “I… I thought he was right behind us, but when we got to safety and looked down, he was… badly injured. I had to hold Lilac back from jumping down to help him, it would’ve been no use. He was too far gone.”
Foxfire presses against his side “I’m sorry pa, I’m sure he was a great cat.” Badger nods in agreement. “He was one of the best.”
“Anyways,” Badger continues, clearing his throat. “We buried him that night after the dogs had gone away, underneath the tree. At least, what was left of him… a quarter moon later we found out that Lilac was expecting his kits. So we settled down somewhere just close enough to be able to visit Smokes grave, but plenty far away where the dogs wouldn’t travel to. We promised Lilac we would help care for her kits when they came, but the pregnancy was hard on her. She had three kits, but two never moved. The third looked just like his father, and she named him Smokey after her mate.”
“So Smoky was the kit?” Foxfire interrupts “Well, what happened to Lilac? Did she dump him on you or something?” Badger turns to fix her with a glare “no, she died.” Foxfires ears lower and she looks down “sorry…”
Badger huffs, continuing. “We think she died of a broken heart after losing her mate and two kits. We woke up one day to Smoky crying, and found that she had passed in her sleep. Fidget and I took in Smokey after that, thank the stars he was just old enough to eat fresh-kill if we mashed it up first. We ended up returning to the tree, burying Lilac next to Smoke and the other two kits.”
The two sit in silence for a bit, watching as Smoky runs up to a group of younger cats. “Those are the apprentices, Antpaw is the black and white one, the tabby is Sparrowpaw, and the two smaller ones are her younger brothers, Hurricanepaw and Floodpaw. They just recently became paws.” Badger nods, listening as Foxfire starts to talk about the clan. “Those four are the youngest right now, there’s no kits in the clan. Not yet, at least” she says with a smile.
“So what made you stay?” Badger asks “you always spoke about how you hated staying in one place.”
Foxfire sighs happily “I met someone” she says. “Oh? Well, can I meet this someone?” Badger asks.
“Of course! She’s sleeping right now, but I can go wake her. Be right back!” Foxfire hurries away, disappearing down a tunnel. Badger watches her go before making his way over to Fidget.
Eelstar smiles as he comes over “hello Badger, we were just talking about having a naming ceremony later today to welcome you all into the clan.” Badger nods “sounds good” he responds before Eelstar is called away by Stormstrike.
“So, Fox has gotten herself a mate.” Badger says casually as Fidget immediately turns to stare at him “she does? Are they here?” He looks around nervously. “Calm down sweetie, she said she’d be right back with her.” Badger touches his nose to Fidgets affectionately. “I hope I make a good first impression…” he worries, with Badger responding “I’m sure you will.”
“Da! Pa!” Foxfire calls, walking over to them. Walking next to her was a heavily pregnant she-cat, both their tails curled around each other. “Meet Cherryberry, my mate!”
Cherryberry smiles at them “hello! It’s nice to meet you two, Foxfire talks very fondly of you both!” Fidget and Badger look at each other before looking at the two. “You two are expecting?” Badger asks as Fidget gasps “we’re gonna be grandparents!” He says excitedly. With a happy smile, the family settles down in the main cave to talk and further catch up.

It had been about a quarter moon since the newly named Badgermoon, Fidgetfern and Smokykit had joined the clan when a new couple showed up at the border, looking for a place to settle down. Aspen and Jay had asked to join, explaining that they had been planning to start a family soon, but hoped to find a group first. The two had been quickly welcomed, earning the two the names of Aspenfrost and Jaycloud.
Currently, Jaycloud was off on patrol with Boulderstripe to learn the clan's borders.
“So ugh, Boulderstripe, right?” Jaycloud glances over, continuing after receiving a nod from the tabby. “How does it feel to have kits? Is it scary? Or just happy? Were you nervous at all?”
Boulderstripe pauses for a moment, looking over at Jaycloud with a curious look. “I’m assuming you and Aspenfrost are trying for kits?” He asks, Jaycloud nodding in confirmation.
“Well,” Boulderstripe begins, “it was a mix of emotions. Sparrowpaw was already three moons old when we welcomed her into our family, but still seemed so small.” A fond smile appears on his face “of course I was nervous, scared I’d mess up. But I knew I would do anything for her, I’d do anything for my boys too. Yeah, it can be scary, especially when bad things happen, but I think it’s definitely worth it.”
Jaycloud listens, nodding a couple times. “Ok, thank you Boulderstripe! I’ve been feeling a bit nervous lately, wasn’t sure if it was just me.” He admits. “Aspenfrost isn’t really nervous at all, she’s really good at handling things.”
Boulderstripe rests his tail tip on Jayclouds shoulder. “Don’t worry, you’ll both be amazing parents, I know it!” Jaycloud smiles, feeling relieved.
“Thank you!” Jaycloud says as they begin to walk again. “No problem, and if you have any worries or questions don’t be scared to come to me or Whiskersnow. I’m sure Fidgetfern and Badgermoon also know quite a bit too.”
The two continue to walk, chatting amongst themselves as they walk. Talking about various things, mainly stories Boulderstripe had about when his kits were little.
