NO animal attacks purely on instinct, not even sharks. It's how they track prey. Finding Nemo wasn't a documentary XD

You know what? Sometimes you can't even avoid wolves. Sometimes they just attack. They're not all rabid and it's not all the human's fault. WOLVES HAVE KILLED PEOPLE TOO.

And you know what? Some people DO freak out for the mere fact that it's a spider. I freak out when I see house centipedes, and I kill them, but I am trying to find ways to get over that. I've yet to hear someone tell me about their deathly fear of wolves, but when's the last time you heard someone talk about arachnophobia? Spiders are NOT based on instinct. They may not be as complex as wolves, but they DO feel the basic emotions, such as fear and the will to live. Do you honestly think a spider, which, by the way, is TINY compared to a human being, would feel the need to run up and bite it? That would pretty much lead to the death of the spider-- you'd kill it if it bit you, wouldn't you? Hence, evolution wouldn't do that to a spider. That would honestly make no sense at all. You would die because of your instincts and not pass your genes on.

Wolves are not 'evil' just because of the fairytales, stop using that as an excuse. You know there are fairytales where the wolf is the good guy? *legasp* They're also metaphors, not 'stay away from the big evil wolfie or he will eet chu!' Funny how no one mentions that bears are used just as often, if not more, as villains in fables.

When most people see a wolf: Omg so pretty! So graceful! So majestic! It is a wild animal and I respect that, but it is still beautiful and I love it!

When most people see a spider: OMGOMGOMGKILLITKILLIT!

Honestly, which would YOU be more afraid of, a fluffy dog that resembles Rover, or a somewhat hairy, eight-legged and eight-eyed insect?

It disgusts me that some people think that 'lesser' animals, like spiders, are hardwired or instinct and just randomly attack humans ALL TEH TIEM. How can you say that spiders are not misunderstood? This sickens me.

EDIT: No one has died from spider venom in the last 100 years, and there are two deaths a year due to allergic reactions.

xX-PandaPirate-Xx wrote:Spiders ARE misunderstood. Not ALL spiders are using their instinct to attack people. So what you said wasn't really true. Every spider knows what their doing. It's not like their sharks, who will go crazy when sharks smell blood. If they didn't know what they were doing, how would they know how to make complicated webs, when humans would not hurt them, or when flies came onto their web? I saw a video in class about a spider expert, and even a trauntula crawled on him without harming him. Why? Because the spider knew he wouldn't harm them. And they have bad reputations. We even once saw a video about a enormous spider destroying a town. And their looks? Makes it even worse.

Spiders are based all on instinct, their webs, their fly-catching technique is all built in, they do not learn it.

Spiders will only attack if someone is prodding them, or grabs them, or almost steps on them. If you let one crawl on you, and not touch it in a rough way, then you are no more than a branch to them. Spiders can learn to "trust" people if you show them no harm and do them no bad, and when they see a human, they do not see it as a threat any more.

I had a cricket and a locust, who I never touched in a harmful way, and they believed I was just an animal or an object that would not harm them. I could tell this because they never jumped away, they just stayed and crawled all over me. I actually miss those two.

Insects cannot "love" or "care" for anyone, their young is rarely looked after by them, except for insects and athropods like scorpions, parent bugs, and ants, who look after them for the next generation, and are not upset when they are gone or become killed, they just carry on to compete their mission.

An animals goal is to reproduce, and then die, and to do this, they must defend themselves and eat.

Of course wolves have killed people before, but they do not kill out of anger or spite, they kill for defence and sometimes for extreme hunger or illness, they do not know the consequences of killing a human, but they rarely do it because it is a dangerous, taller predator. And wolves don't "just attack", all animals will attack a human for a reason, even if we do not understand it fully.

All animals feel fear, and all want to live, and the simpler animals, such as insects and other of the like, are based on instinct, and even if they are tame, they are not loyal or want anything to do with you. They want to live and reproduce, and that is their only mission. More intelligent animals enjoy life, and want to please (like dogs), and reproducing isn't their only goal. Spiders only attack people when they feel threatened, or think that your finger is a big, juicy moth that has flown into their web.

Oh, I have met plenty of people who are petrified of wolves, and you know what? It's all because of those stupid stories they have heard, gullible twits. And, tell me, I'd like an original fairy tail that is positive about wolves, and not the wolf that raised the creators of Rome, because that has a nasty, religious twist to it too.

And I do not believe that spiders are misunderstood, people just have an unbearable fear of them, and even I go all skittish when someone has a spider with them and is chasing me with it, because I have had far too many spiders crawl under my clothes and onto my neck, and yes, they were venomous.

Spiders have killed people within the last 100 years, it was a black widow spider, and no, it wasn't an allergic reaction.

Note, please, no more arguments. I don't want to go through the same depression and frustration as I did with similar conversations like this.

Zarago; Spiders are misunderstood.
http://www.noble.org/ag/wildlife/spiders/index.html Read that, and it'll tell you.
I've searched the web the whole time, and every single time, it said spiders are misunderstood. I believe the majority of people. So, the fact is proven. Period.

This is a D-E-B-A-T-E thread requesting people to post their opinion on wolves. Not everyone is going to agree with you, get over it.

How is having an unbearable fear for them not being misunderstood? THEY AREN'T BOTHERING ANYONE, THEY ARE JUST CHILLING IN THEIR WEBS OR TRYING TO FIND REFUGE MOST OF THE TIME AND PEOPLE STILL KILL THEM. Did you not hear what I said about spiders going after humans would be a completely useless instinct? Spiders are easily 1/100th the size of humans, if not smaller, and most do not eat them or anything silly like that. So why would they have evolved to go after humans on sight? That's just stupid-- if that was the case, there would be no more spiders now.

People should be THANKFUL for spiders, they do a heck of a lot more for us than wolves do. You want to know why we aren't up to our armpits in gnats and other bugs? SPIDERS. But no-o-o, they're icky and disgusting and run purely on instinct and we should kill them!

Spiders will attack in defense, yes, JUST LIKE WOLVES OMG. Honestly, if something 100 times your size was coming after you, and you were cornered, you'd try to defend yourself too, wouldn't you?

As for the fairy tale: I believe one of Aesop's stories speaks about a dog and a starving wolf. The wolf sees how fat and happy the dog is, and asks if he can have some of his food. The dog says 'lolok but you have to submit to my master.' The wolf refuses, and would rather starve than be enslaved.

Wolves are NOT the most misunderstood animal out there. Yes, spiders are misunderstood-- so are rats, mice, sharks, bats, and numerous other species.

The fact that you would say 'larger animals enjoy life!' is really sad, actually. Spiders are not just instinctual. Please stop treating them like robots, kthnxbai.

Well, you and others may believe that they are misunderstood, but I believe that we understand them, but we still do not like them, even if they are harmless. We have different opinions, period.

I just wish you'd stop pissing 'bout spiders, you treat them like robotic vermin that never amounts to anything.

Nooo, it was turning into an argument that I've had many times before.

A please, do not cuss, it doesn't show you in a good way whatsoever. And I do not view them as the way you said, I don't like them very much, but I do not kill them just because of my opinions of them. I catch them in a jam jar, and put them outside. What's the point of killing something just because of a dislike you have of something, even if it is doing you no harm physically?

I'm afraid, without wolves, Yellowstone and many other places would be barren in many places, beavers would be struggling, and many others that depend on the greenery.

Wolves kill the elk that eat the young trees, when wolves were wiped out of Yellowstone, elk numbers rised, and were strimming young plants as a result. The same thing is happening with the red deer in Scotland, because wolves have gone.

I'd like more on the fairy tail also.

You talk to me like I hate spiders and I think they have no purpose., and I don't.
