So I collect Albino pets, and I'm wondering if this is supposed to be an albino or if it is leucistic. (lacking melonin but not true albino)

Thank you in advance.
My Albino collection for reference.

Hi there! This is a fantastic question. I based this friend off the giraffe that was seen in Africa a while ago. Upon some further research, this giraffe is leucistic, not albino! I hope this helps. :)

Thank you so much! I love this design! I''ll put her back with her other friends! lol.

I study animal colouration as part of my research so I just wanted to add that the way you can tell the difference between albino and leucistic is that albino animals be definition have no melanin (black/brown/reddish) pigment at all on their body (so no black/brown hairs/feathers/scales anywhere, and pink/red eyes). Since the giraffe has dark hairs on the tip of its tail, it can't be albino and must have some form of leucism. Hope that helps with your sorting!

Vincent Van Gogh. Everyone said to him, "You can't be a great painter, you only have one ear." And you know what he said? "I can't hear you."

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

we'd like to briefly add that not all albino animals have pink/red eyes - depending on the structure of the iris, they may have blue eyes instead. the majority of albino cats have blue eyes, for example.
it seems like albino animals have more of a reddish tint to their pupils than leucistic animals, though, so taking a look at the eyes can still be useful for figuring out if an animal is albino or not!
